Re: problem with app store

2015-11-04 Thread Regina Alvarado

A different question about the app store. A few upgrades back Apple did away
with the cancel button in the left-hand upper corner on the page where the
description of the app, etc., is. By my understanding, you can get out of this
screen using the scrub gesture. However, what can one do if the gesture cannot
be mastered? Right now the only way to get out of the page is to go out of the
store and close app store in the app switcher and open it again. Sometimes even
this does not work. Any ideas for my friend? Thanks!

Hi,

Assuming that the charging port is facing towards you, starting with
the left colum going from top to bottom it's back, Siri and play /
pause. The right colum, also going from top to bottom is home and a
volume up / down control.

Cheers,

Before the upgrade I always put the library in album mode, so I pushed the
first letter of the artist and then I saw all the albums from that particular
artist. After de upgrade, this is not possible. In album mode I can only see
the first few albums but when I scroll down on my list of albums, voiceover
only says (in Dutch, leeg) empty (I think is the English word). So I can't
select an album. This is very frustrating, because I can't open the context
menu to for example put the album on my iPhone or change the info about the
artist.

Does someone konow how to use iTunes? Could someone explain how to put just one
album on my iPhone and how to scroll through my library? I also tried in artist
mode, but that is even more difficult. Song mode is useless for me. I have
about 4 songs.

Thanks,
Gianni

yes that is right because it showed up at 7 pm pacific. Please try this again

Daniel,

I apologize but I don’t quite understand. I can play a song from my mac that I
burned from a CD on my iPhone. Well, at least I could do that a few weeks ago.
I haven't’ tried it lately. I also have not tried it on my appleTV yet. I’d
appreciate any clarification as I do not understand how this all works. I
didn’t even know my entire music library would end up on my iPhone.

Re: question use itunes on mac

2015-11-04 Thread Agent086b
Hi,
this is a bug in latest OS X Mail App. There is no work around other switching
to artist or songs mode.
I suggest you report the but to accessibil...@apple.com. I have done this
already. The more people who do this it may get fixed.
Apparently the albums do show up on the screen but VoiceOver does not read them.
Sorry for the bad news.

Re: Temporary fix for netflix audio description on the 4th gen apple TV

2015-11-04 Thread Brent Harding
Wow! This is another feature they have to enable for you on there end that
we don't get access to? I wonder if it works to play something through an
iPhone, set the language to description, and then every other device on your
account should pick that up, unless this only applies to that device. I
remember all the while through playing their first couple offerings, it
would disable and hide that option every two or three episodes. I hope
people wouldn't have to keep calling throughout a binge session.

Hi all,

I’ve seemly stumbled on a temporary fix for apple TV 4th generation owners
who want audio description on Netflix. It requires that you call them and
explain the situation, and ask them to enable it for your account. I spent
about 5 minutes on the phone with them and have it running beautifully. All
it took on my end was a sign out and sign back in, and I was able to select
the audio description track like normal.

Hi Dan,
I will be curious to know how many of these work with voiceover. Particularly
the flying across the screen to get from one end of the typing alphabet to the
other. It seems like that would be very hit and miss for us. Really hoping for
Bluetooth keyboard support. I don't have an Apple TV, so I cannot test any of
this out. That is I don't have a new one.

Re: problem with app store

2015-11-04 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Regina. In my 3 years of using iOS devices, I've never seen a cancel button.
I've seen a back button though but that's to get out of an app description
before downloading it. Is that what you're talking about?

Temporary fix for netflix audio description on the 4th gen apple TV

2015-11-04 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi all,

I’ve seemly stumbled on a temporary fix for apple TV 4th generation owners who
want audio description on Netflix. It requires that you call them and explain
the situation, and ask them to enable it for your account. I spent about 5
minutes on the phone with them and have it running beautifully. All it took on
my end was a sign out and sign back in, and I was able to select the audio
description track like normal.

I don't think you need a dock, but just a bluetooth cable cordless

I would appreciate such a feature.

Re: New Apple remote

2015-11-04 Thread Juliette Swiler
I would suggest listening to David Woodbridge’s demonstration podcast. He
describes the physical layout of the remote in detail. The long button is a
volume control, and with the lightning port facing towards you, you have the
touchpad at the top, then a row of three buttons, the top being menu, the
middle is the Siri button, and then the bottom is play/pause. The button right
above the volume control is the home button which takes you directly back to
the home screen.

I received mine today too and had no problems and even the use device to setup

Hi,

When you first launch the app, click the settings button at the top right. The
master speed control is in that dialog.

However there does appear to be a bug in this version as the master speed level
keeps resetting itself back to 20 percent each time I launch the app.

Cheers,
Brett.

Using cordless phones with a cell phone

2015-11-04 Thread Karl Smith
Hello,

I thought I read on this list once that there was some kind of dock on which
one could connect a cell phone which would make it possible to answer the phone
through one or more cordless phones around the house as one would with a land
line. My wife wants to drop our land line and I would like to be able to do
this as she might not always have her phone with her. Is this the case or am I
dreaming?

Re: posting photos and posting to groups on facebook

2015-11-04 Thread Becca Thompson
Hi Stephanie,

Happy to help as i am admin or owner/creator of more than 30 group pages:

1) first of all you must be a MEMBER of the group to post or even comment
so hit JOIN on the group you are interested in's page. Groups that are
public you can join instantly. Most you have to be approved by one of the
group admins or added by another group member...

2) I assume, when you say "the post will be text with a photo" that you
mean it will be an initial POST vs a COMMENT with picture in the thread of
another's post.
In that case you then.

~WAIT, you say you will be posting to several groups at once??? That makes
no sense at all unless you are posting ads or links to commercial pages or
websites.

(GET BACK TO ME WITH AN ANSWER BEFORE I ELABORATE FURTHER WITH DETAILED
INSTRUCTIONS.. ok?

. And did you by chance answer an ad for work as a SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER or
something similiar?

Also you dont' EXIT into messenger from FB as they are now separate apps
altogether... you did not elaborate anything about messenger as you asked
about FACEBOOK GROUPS, totally different format/media/procedure etc...

Cheers,
BexNTex

Cheers,
BexNTex

Apple’s cool ‘Indoor Survey’ app maps venues using radio frequencies, but you can’t use it

2015-11-04 Thread William Kennedy
Apple’s cool ‘Indoor Survey’ app maps venues using radio frequencies, but you
can’t use it

Apple may be getting into the indoor mapping game. An app has been discovered
that lets users map the inside of a building using their phones.

Unfortunately, it’s not for the casual user. The app was discovered buried in
the App Store; it wasn’t even discoverable via Search, nor was it listed as an
official Apple app under the company’s profile.

Here’s how it works: when a user walks through a venue, they drop ‘pins.’ As
users drop pins, the app uses the radio frequency signal along with an iPhone’s
sensor data to create an indoor map.

Well this is an Apple app I’ve not seen before! pic.twitter.com/A3BNYEq6yH

— Steve T-S (@stroughtonsmith) November 1, 2015

The app seems to be meant for businesses who want to contribute to Apple’s Maps
Connect program, which lets small businesses edit data about their
establishments. Apple Insider notes the app uses technology similar to
WiFiSLAM, a company Apple purchased in 2013 for $20 million.

For now, this seems like an enterprise-facing app, but we wouldn’t be surprised
to see Apple let users contribute to Maps somewhere down the line with this
one, either.

It depends if you are talking about actually reading all text like instructions
and so on or if you are just interested in apps which recognize what it is. For
recognition apps I'd start with Camfind (free), then Tap Tap See (you have to
buy picture credits) and you could of course try apps like Be My Eyes or
CrowdViz which connect you with a sighted person via Facetime (CrowdViz gives
you some free credits, after that you also have to pay a small amount).

Then there are actual barcode apps like Red Laser (free) or Digit-Eyes (paid)
where you have to find the barcode, the app scans it and compares it to a
database of barcodes online and hopefully it will come up with a match.

Lastly, you could try something like KNFB Reaer to actually recognize the text
on a package, but it often does not work that great because the text may be
difficult for OCR to recognize because of colours, pictures and other clutter.

The thing is that once you know exactly what the product is, you can often find
it on the manufacturer's website and get more information such as ingredients
or other instructions.

Sieghard

Re: tagging people in a facebook post

2015-11-04 Thread Joney
I may be doing this differently than what most of you were doing. When I want
to tag people in the post, I write out the post, then afterwards, flick to the
right. You get audience. Friends. How are you feet leaving. Etc. Double tap on
friends, and then you can go down your list. They will be a few friends that
are normally talk to most of the time, that are listed first. The rest of your
friends, are in alphabetical order underneath that, double tap on each friend
that you want in your list. Then, when you're done, tap the done button at the
top right. It will go back to the post. And you can add in what are you doing,
change the audience to public or friends or friends of friends or whatever you
wanted to do, add a link, or photo, and then also purse Press the post button.
Hope this helps.

No, this say who you are with function is a totally different thing.
I was teaching you how to tag somebody, with that like mentioning
them on Facebook. I didn't realize you wanted to say who you were
with because you didn't specify. Because there's two different ways
of tagging people. There's mentioning them, and there's saying who
you are with. Is that what you're wanting to do?

Hello Paul, you can simply type the@sign, followed by a few
characters of their first or last name. Once done this, suggestions
will start to pop up what you can double tap on to tag those
people. Once you tap on the suggestion, we'll simply have to type

Re: How to deal with call waiting.

2015-11-04 Thread Brent Harding
Yes, hold and mute are a little harder in that you have to hide the keypad to
get to those. Even in iOS 8.4 for me, Voiceover goes to the low quality mode on
my iPhone 6, so that fix must be in a later batch of 6's or something.

Hello Matthew, on the iPhone switching causes a breeze. When a call comes in
obviously you have the hold in except button, you can double tap that and it
will take you to the next caller. When switching back and forth, if you hide
the key pad there is a swamp button. He will use this button to go from call to
call. I hope this works for you.

Then do I have to flick through, or can I simply two finger double tap to

Re: the new trivia crack

2015-11-04 Thread Joney
You have to turn off voiceover to tap on the questions in the first place. You
have to choose one of the box spots. It is difficult. I just have around on the
screen till it gets there. Then it brings up the question and right underneath
it just like in the others are the things to answer with. Then you tap on it,
and then tap continue. Then you have to turn off voiceover, and start again I
hope that makes sense, and that it helps. I tried it out for a while, and he
put it aside, hoping that their update fixes that. :-)

Would the ear pods that came with the I phone also work like a blue tooth

Matthew, I find the easiest way is to use a blue tooth. On every headset I
have, I can just press the button, and go back and fourth from call to call.

ear? Must I lower the handset to switch to speaker so the controls are visible?
Then do I have to flick through, or can I simply two finger double tap to
switch calls, and again to switch back? Primarily I will be conversing on a
bluetooth headset, so I may just be able to click a button on that headset to
accomplish this, but I thought I'd ask now, before the situation comes up. I
know that if the phone is at your ear and you click the power button the phone
will hang up, but will this then activate the other call and back again?

Thanks,

The biggest problem I am having with the swipe gesture is if it lands on a
character while swiping, it types that letter. I have gotten it to go all
the way from A to L without stopping on any other characters, but when it
stops on the L, it types an L.

Hi Dan,
I will be curious to know how many of these work with voiceover.
Particularly the flying across the screen to get from one end of the typing
alphabet to the other. It seems like that would be very hit and miss for us.
Really hoping for Bluetooth keyboard support. I don't have an Apple TV, so I
cannot test any of this out. That is I don't have a new one.

The swiping gesture does work for VoiceOver. It is a little tricky but if
you do it right, you can move through the keyboard a lot quicker. You have
to swipe closer to the buttons and actually put enough pressure that it
seems as though you are clicking on the letter but you aren't. I know that
makes no sense to those who don't have the remote right in front of them,
but I am testing the gesture now and it does work. You actually kind of
squeeze the remote while performing the swipe gesture.

Okay, that's something there's two types of tagging. They're saying who you're
with, and there is actually mentioning somebody in your post. Know which one
you want to do, would it be indication for me to know. Do you want instructions
for both or just one?

No, this say who you are with function is a totally different thing. I was
teaching you how to tag somebody, with that like mentioning them on Facebook. I
didn't realize you wanted to say who you were with because you didn't specify.
Because there's two different ways of tagging people. There's mentioning them,
and there's saying who you are with. Is that what you're wanting to do?

Hello Paul, you can simply type the@sign, followed by a few characters of
their first or last name. Once done this, suggestions will start to pop up what
you can double tap on to tag those people. Once you tap on the suggestion,
we'll simply have to type B@again.

Matthew, I find the easiest way is to use a blue tooth. On every headset I
have, I can just press the button, and go back and fourth from call to call.

RE: apps for reading grocery packaging

2015-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Sieghard

it, I didn’t find the Google calendar iOS app all that well laid out. I also
deal with Exchanged based calendars so something that can handle different
calendar types would be ideal.

I’ve heard folks mention Fantastical 2 on the list before. Before I go and
start buying calendar apps, I thought I’d ask if this or another similar app
has this particular feature and is reasonably accessible?

Thanks,

RE: iOS calendar app with customizable alerts/notifications

2015-11-04 Thread Cristóbal
The reminder app is one of those that I have buried in a junk iOS folder. I’d
prefer not to have to start using multiple apps or going through multiple steps
to accomplish this. I deal with lots of appointments related to my business and
doing this every single time would not be very productive or feasible. Ideally,
I’d like to simply do this via the native calendar app as the dates I receive I
get via email and can create an event directly from the message, but oh well.

I’ll probably submit this feedback for Apple’s consideration, but that doesn’t
really help me now.

iOS calendar app with customizable alerts/notifications

2015-11-04 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

I’m in search of a calendar app where I can set a customized alert. I do
like the native calendar app, but it unfortunately does not allow for
something like this. You can only select from pre-set times. Two days
before, one day before, two hours before, etc. Same goes for the calendar in
the Outlook app.

I need to have the ability to set different alert times. Be it three or
four hours, etc. This can be done via the Google calendar website, but last
I tried it, I didn’t find the Google calendar iOS app all that well laid
out. I also deal with Exchanged based calendars so something that can handle
different calendar types would be ideal.

I’ve heard folks mention Fantastical 2 on the list before. Before I go and
start buying calendar apps, I thought I’d ask if this or another similar app
has this particular feature and is reasonably accessible?

Thanks,

Cristobal

Hello Paul, you can simply type the@sign, followed by a few characters of
their first or last name. Once done this, suggestions will start to pop up what
you can double tap on to tag those people. Once you tap on the suggestion,
we'll simply have to type B@again.

All,

How do I tag someone in a post, not a video or photo but a post?
I want to tag them and have their name appear in the middle of a sentence:
For example—I want to thank John Smith for ...

That, I think, means I would tag John Smith. Is this correct; if so, how do
you do it so their name shows up where you want it to?
If there is another alternative, let me know.

Thanks all.
