Re: facebook on IOS10

2016-10-13 Thread Shai
Hi Jeffrey,
Since I have not seen an answer to your question, I am replying to your post.
Please be aware that this is only my assessment of the situation and
not actual knowledge. In my opinion, I would think that the delete
this account button would delete the Facebook account from your phone
and not from the Facebook server. If it were deleting from the server,
I would assume that the button should be labeled cancel account. In
either case, I would think that double tapping this button would bring
up a dialogue confirming if you are sure of your choice which you
could cancel if you did not want to perform the selected action. You
could also try enabling VoiceOver hints if you do not have these
turned on. Sometimes, there is a hint that is associated with a button
in question if the app developer has programmed this.

Re: iTunes No Longer Recognizing my iPhone

2016-10-13 Thread englishrider91
Something else that might be happening is that the Apple Mobile USB Driver may
need to be updated. I'm not entirely sure how to do this, as I'd spent about an
hour or so on the phone with An Apple customer rep, and eventually got bumped
to a senior rep, but they finally figured out that an outdated version of the
driver was my problem. You should be able to find an article somewhere out
there on updating this driver.

I hope you get things resolved soon. I know how frustrating it is when you feel
like you've tried everything to solve this issue, and nothing works.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: facebook on IOS10

2016-10-13 Thread Davy Cuppens
I strongly advise all folks here to nolonger upgrade the facebook app from
version 64.0 that is the last accessible version.

They have already done 2 updates and that proves that at this very moment
accessibility is nolonger an issue for the fb team.
Maybe policy could change later but you have to ask facebook and not me about
that.

Subject: facebook on IOS10

Hi,

I have an inaccessible screen on my Facebook app now, which I am told says I
need to go into the settings app on my phone, and manage my passwords from
there. Once I get there, everything looks right to me, but there is a delete
this account button to choose.

Could it actually be that I have to delete this entry from my phone in order to
use the Facebook app now?i find this to be very counter-intuitive, and I really
don’t want to delete my Facebook account. It’s not clear to me if this deletes
the Facebook account from their servers, or just a newly unnecessary feature
from my iPhone settings.

Anybody know?

Thanks,

Jeffrey Turner

THE ALEXA APP?

2016-10-13 Thread Melissa Tucker
As usual, after upgrading to ios 10, I can't get the alexa app to start a book
over, or move from chapter to chapter. I can get it to rewind a few seconds,
and fast forward. Is anyone successfully using this app or able to move around
a book with a mac computer? Thanks for any suggestions on this.

Re: THE ALEXA APP?

2016-10-13 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Melissa, I am confused by your message. You mentioned that you can't get the
Alexa app to move in a book, then you ask about the Mac. I didn't know there
was an Alexa app for the Mac. I thought it was just for phones or tablets. And
I was also not aware that you actually read books from within the app. I use my
echo for reading books if I want to do that, which I seldom do. If you're on an
iPhone, why not just use the Kindle app or the audible app to read books? I'm
really confused here it was my understanding of the Alexa app is kind of a
supplement to the echo, because you have to go there to do things like look at
skills or get rid of things from shopping list or add to your briefing at
Cetera.

Re: THE ALEXA APP?

2016-10-13 Thread Melissa Tucker
According to the echo, you have to move in chapters with the alexa iphone app.
You are correct that there is no mac app. I like the alexa voice so I was
trying to get a book to start over, but am prompted to use the app to navigate.
I may have to listen to the book with voice over, but thought I'd try to
figure this out first. Didn't mean to confuse anyone.

Re: Twitterrific and refreshing

2016-10-13 Thread Traci Duncan
Sure, tap the menu button in the top left, then go down to accounts. Double
tap and hold on the account that you want to clear cache for. This part is a
little inconsistent. I had to double tap and hold, but then I ended up double
tapping again. A menu appears towards the bottom giving you options to clear
cache or delete the account. Twitterrific recommends clearing the cache if you
are having troubles loading tweets in your timeline.

This is what was happening to me. I’d go into the app, say on a Tuesday
morning, and my feed wouldn’t refresh. It would be sitting there from 12 hours
ago, or a few days.

Something to keep in mind when you clear the cache… If you have the top tabs
customized, you will need to redo those. It brings them back to the defaults.

Re: Music w/o wifi?

2016-10-13 Thread Wayne Merritt
Depending on how much music you have, if it is in playlists, and how
much phone storage you have, you can download the music over wifi to
your phone. You can probably download the music if it is not in a
playlist, but all my music is in a playlist so I'm not sure on that.
To set your phone to download music that is added to your library or
to add songs to your library which are added to a playlist, go to
settings/music, and turn on the relevant options. It will say
something like download music that is added to your library, and
similar for music that is added to a playlist. Then, if you are
listening to a song that is in your library or playing from one of the
custom playlists or radio stations in Apple Music, you can hit the add
to library button on the now playing screen to add it to your library.
If you do not subscribe to Apple Music, the process of adding through
the now playing screen would likely work the same way. You can also
hit the more button in the lower right corner, and then choose add to
playlist, and then you will get a list of all of the playlists you
have created. When I upgraded to the iPhone 7, I also upgraded my
storage to 128 GB. As a result, anything that I add to my library or
add to a playlist, I have set to automatically download to my phone.
This is good since there are a few places I go at home or work which
have 1 bar of service with my carrier.

Good luck,
Wayne

install apps on iphone via itunes on windows pc nolonger possible?

2016-10-13 Thread Davy Cuppens
Hi folks

I managed to go back to my previous installed fb app with sighted help but in
my oppinion this is nolonger possible without sighted help.

This is how it goes: you connect the iphone to a windows pc and tab till you
get the iphone button and enter or spacebar it.

Then tab a few times till you get a tree list which seems to be not accessible.
But when pressing then the a for apps you get the word apps on brail and
speech. Then tab further to the list box and with nvda and wineyes that apps
list is shown and besides the names of the app you hear the option remove or
install which means the app is or is not on your iphone but was previously
installed or backed up via itunes. Then you believe it must be possible to
remove or install apps by itunes on windows but it is not, and here the storey
ends. Entering the list item does nothing, even the most advanced mouse actions
and performing leftclicks on the numpad doesn’t make any sense.
However, when sighted people click on the item, the installation starts and
when clicking on apply normally you here the sync sound and the app should have
been installed on the iphone.

Is there nolonger a possibility for blind persons to perform this action?
Regards
Davy

OK, so it's a Kindle book that you're reading them, not an audible one. Thanks
for the explanation. I have an android device that I like to read my Kindle
books on, because I like that voice better. So you are a more advanced user in
this area than I. Thanks for the education.

Re: install apps on iphone via itunes on windows pc nolonger possible?

2016-10-13 Thread Daniel L. Gervais
Hi Davy,

I have tried everything but with no success. I too have encountered
this issue with the latest version of iTunes and JAWS. I had recently
reset my phone when iOS 10 first came out. I typically like to format
and start over when a major iOS update is made available.

All went great when selecting items to sync, but when I got to the list
of apps, no luck. In older versions, my screen reader would only see
one list of apps but each app had a checkbox. Since the latest iTunes
12.5.1 though, I encountered the same as you, my screen reader would
siply read the app name, the version and the word "install", but when I
tried everything, including some advanced JAWS keys, nothing I did could
change that word "Install" to "Remove".

So I did the next best thing, I wrote to Apple accessibility and
brought this glitch to their attention. If I were you, I would suggest
you do the same. The more people send them e-mails with this issue and
they might consider bringing this up higher on the priority list and
hopefully fix this in a future version.

Anyways, I hope this helps!

Re: THE ALEXA APP?

2016-10-13 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

I just did some experimenting, and when I play a Kindle book on
Alexa, the chapters are no longer listed in the Now Playing section of the
Alexa app. Maybe this is because of the recent update to the Alexa app. They
are still listed at
alexa.amazon.com .
I went there with my computer and was able to navigate by chapter. I thought it
might be possible to go to that site on my phone and read Kindle books that
way, but it didn't work; I was just prompted to download the app. I guess it's
time to contact amazon.

Best,
Anna

Thank you for this.

I do as little as possible with iTunes as I find it frustrating to deal with

Re: THE ALEXA APP?

2016-10-13 Thread Melissa Tucker
You can read kindle or audible books. In this case, I was referring to kindle
books. You can move through audible books with the echo, but not kindle books.
I hope this changes soon. I originally got the echo for my husband for
Christmas. Since I like the alexa voice and have kindle books, I got myself
the amazon tap.

  Hi,

I have an inaccessible screen on my Facebook app now, which I am told says I
need to go into the settings app on my phone, and manage my passwords from
there. Once I get there, everything looks right to me, but there is a delete
this account button to choose.

Could it actually be that I have to delete this entry from my phone in order
to use the Facebook app now?i find this to be very counter-intuitive, and I
really don’t want to delete my Facebook account. It’s not clear to me if this
deletes the Facebook account from their servers, or just a newly unnecessary

  Anybody know?

  Thanks,

Like I stated in my previous message; I am not having any accessibility
problems with the latest update of Facebook. All links are read out & photos
are being described, where applicable.

My complaint with Facebook is that they might as well give up on the photo
description. A friend shared 2 MRI photos 1 of a brain which was of her son's
brain which is abnormal due to his disability & the other photo was of what a
normal brain looks like. Facebooks photo describing said both photos were food!

Re: install apps on iphone via itunes on windows pc nolonger possible?

2016-10-13 Thread Tony Hernandez

Hi,

Judging from what I am reading here, though I haven't tried this myself,
it sounds like what it takes is a click of the actual hardware mouse.
Perhaps it would be useful to try grabbing the mouse with one hand,
holding it perfectly still, routing your mouse cursor to the button that
needs to be clicked to install the app with the other hand, then
clicking the left mouse button on the mouse itself, again taking care
not to budge that mouse. Mouse pointers can sometimes be very sensitive
to the slightest movement, so keeping the mouse still can be a challenge
sometimes. This might at least be a workaround until Apple takes care of
this problem.

On 10/13/2016 1:08 PM, Daniel L. Gervais wrote:

Subject:install apps on iphone via itunes on windows pc nolonger
possible?

Hi folks

I managed to go back to my previous installed fb app with sighted help
but in my oppinion this is nolonger possible without sighted help.

This is how it goes: you connect the iphone to a windows pc and tab
till you get the iphone button and enter or spacebar it.

Then tab a few times till you get a tree list which seems to be not
accessible. But when pressing then the a for apps you get the word apps
on brail and speech. Then tab further to the list box and with nvda and
wineyes that apps list is shown and besides the names of the app you
hear the option remove or install which means the app is or is not on
your iphone but was previously installed or backed up via itunes. Then
you believe it must be possible to remove or install apps by itunes on
windows but it is not, and here the storey ends. Entering the list item
does nothing, even the most advanced mouse actions and performing
leftclicks on the numpad doesn’t make any sense.
However, when sighted people click on the item, the installation starts
and when clicking on apply normally you here the sync sound and the app
should have been installed on the iphone.

Is there nolonger a possibility for blind persons to perform this
action?
Regards
Davy

Re: facebook on IOS10 there's a new update

2016-10-13 Thread Wayne Merritt
I am not having any accessibility issues either. I don't use Facebook
a lot, but it works for what I do use, namely checking notifications,
posting, and reading a few posts. The only annoying problem I have
with Facebook is that it keeps asking me to add my mobile number. No
matter how many times I hit the Not Now button, that only postpones
that prompt until the next time I load the app. Everything's working
fine other than that annoyance.

Hi,

Judging from what I am reading here, though I haven't tried this myself, it
sounds like what it takes is a click of the actual hardware mouse.
Perhaps it would be useful to try grabbing the mouse with one hand, holding it
perfectly still, routing your mouse cursor to the button that needs to be
clicked to install the app with the other hand, then clicking the left mouse
button on the mouse itself, again taking care not to budge that mouse. Mouse
pointers can sometimes be very sensitive to the slightest movement, so keeping
the mouse still can be a challenge sometimes. This might at least be a
workaround until Apple takes care of this problem.

Rene Ritchie has checked out the lag on the AirPods when using VO

2016-10-13 Thread Robin Christopherson
Dear listers

I asked Rene Ritchie (anyone who listens to Twit or Apple Talk or reads
imore.com will know who I’m talking about) who has a pair of AirPods on loan
prior to their launch to test them for lag when using VO on his iPhone 7. He
very kindly had a go and here is our DM exchange on Twitter. It’s not
conclusive but moderately encouraging:

Me: Hiya. I'd really appreciate it if you could fire up VoiceOver and see if
there is any noticable lag when flicking right/left through items on the screen
when using AirPods. The one showstopper for VO users would be any lag using VO.
Thx

Rene: I played around with it a little but I’ll get some regular headphones and
airpods and see if I can find a difference. My one word of caution is that
these are preproduction hardware and may not reflect what the final shipping
version can do.

Rene: I tried it and I think there’s still a little BT lag, though I’m really
bad at judging this stuff and I’d hate to give anyone the wrong impression. The
magic, as I understand it, is mostly in connecting and keeping the two buds in
sync. I’m not sure how much they can do to improve the speed of BT.

Me: Thanks *so* much. The very fact that you're unsure as to whether/how much
tells me volumes. It sounds like it may well be on the right side of acceptable
which is all we needed to know. If when flicking through items on the home
screen, say, you had noticed definite lag then this would be conclusive - but
the very fact that you aren't sure sounds promising. My £20 BT headset has
something around 0.5-0.75s delay per swipe and it makes it incredibly
frustrating to use. This sounds v different. I'll report this back to the
community.

Rene: Sorry - I’m *really* bad at audio. The opposite of a golden ears :)

Thanks, Robin

There is a new update, just out today, which fixes the problem where a lot of
links were not being read out. If you were in your feed, you'd see things like
user X shared a link. And then nothing. Blank. That has been fixed. Now let's
hope they don't break it again.

I have an inaccessible screen on my Facebook app now, which I am told
says I need to go into the settings app on my phone, and manage my
passwords from there. Once I get there, everything looks right to me, but
there is a delete this account button to choose.

It’s not clear to me if this deletes the Facebook account from their

There is a new update, just out today, which fixes the problem where a lot of
links were not being read out. If you were in your feed, you'd see things like
user X shared a link. And then nothing. Blank. That has been fixed. Now let's
hope they don't break it again.

They have already done 2 updates and that proves that at this very moment
accessibility is nolonger an issue for the fb team.
Maybe policy could change later but you have to ask facebook and not me

 Hi,

I have an inaccessible screen on my Facebook app now, which I am told
says I need to go into the settings app on my phone, and manage my
passwords from there. Once I get there, everything looks right to me, but
there is a delete this account button to choose.

Could it actually be that I have to delete this entry from my phone in
order to use the Facebook app now?i find this to be very
counter-intuitive, and I really don’t want to delete my Facebook account.
It’s not clear to me if this deletes the Facebook account from their
servers, or just a newly unnecessary feature from my iPhone settings.

 Anybody know?

 Thanks,

RE: THE ALEXA APP?

Hi Anna,

Good luck with contacting Amazon … I’ve been contacting them with issues since
I purchased my Echo a couple of months ago, and I haven’t had a single issue
cleared up. Actually, the Alexa web site is less accessible today than it was
when I started.

Hi,

I just did some experimenting, and when I play a Kindle book on

Alexa, the chapters are no longer listed in the Now Playing section of the
Alexa app. Maybe this is because of the recent update to the Alexa app. They
are still listed at

alexa.amazon.com.

I went there with my computer and was able to navigate by chapter. I thought it
might be possible to go to that site on my phone and read Kindle books that
way, but it didn't work; I was just prompted to download the app. I guess it's
time to contact amazon.

Best,

Anna

I may have to listen to the book with voice over, but thought I'd try to

Hi Melissa, I am confused by your message. You mentioned that you can't get the

I was also not aware that you actually read books from within the app. I use my
echo for reading books if I want to do that, which I seldom do. If you're on an
iPhone, why not just use the Kindle app or the audible app to read books? I'm
really confused here it was my understanding of the Alexa app is kind of a
supplement to the echo, because you have to go there to do things like look at

for some reason it is not opening for you, while on the newsfeed, double tap on

RE: iTunes No Longer Recognizing my iPhone

2016-10-13 Thread Cristóbal
I dealt with something similar a few weeks back. For whatever reason, My

issue.

Thanks,

Ari

USB 2.0 port and ran the Media Creation Tool again the Windows installation
went perfectly fine and completed without a problem. I learned in almost 30

Sorting Column in Numbers on IOS

2016-10-13 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hi everyone,

I’m trying to figure out how to sort a column in the Numbers app on IOS 10.
According to the help, you should just be able to tap on the column label and a
sort button should appear. But for the life of me, I cannot find that button,
or any other buttons. All I see when I double tap the column label is a column
width adjuster, column handle to reorder the columns, and another to change the
selection.

Any idea what I’m missing?

Thanks,
Brandon

Wanting some information about accessible games

2016-10-13 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everybody,

I would like some information about accessible games please, that I can play on
my iPhone 5s. I don't really want any game options that require me to turn off
voice over. However, I do have audio archery that I do enjoy playing sometimes.

I am looking for some games where I can challenge myself, but that they won't
be so difficult I won't really ever get them at all. I'm not really into car
games. I like to know, and things of that nature. But I've never understood how
to play poker, or solitaire. So things like that are out.
I'm sorry, that was supposed to be card games, and Uno.
Are used to play word association. I did enjoy that to a point. But then I got
frustrated with it, because I am not the best at guessing words like that.
So if anyone has any ideas for me, I would really appreciate it. I don't want
to have to do a whole bunch of different sort of gestures to make a game work.
Yes I know, I probably sound picky. But that's just what I prefer. I might be
willing to pay a small price for a game, if the game is truly accessible!

If anyone can help me out, that would be just awesome! If there is a slight I
can go look at, I would do that. But I want to hear from other people as well.
Thank you so much for any help, or advise that is offered to me.

Terri

Hi Terri,

Marty Schultz has a whole series of games. Search for Blindfold Games, and
you'll find a wide variety. They're thoroughly accessible, and the gestures
make sense.

Also, check out AppleVis for ideas.

Anna

I strongly advise all folks here to nolonger upgrade the facebook app

They have already done 2 updates and that proves that at this very moment
accessibility is nolonger an issue for the fb team.
Maybe policy could change later but you have to ask facebook and not me

says I need to go into the settings app on my phone, and manage my
passwords from there.

 Thanks,

 Jeffrey Turner
