I have the same issue. This seems to happen
when I try to text those who do not have an
IPhone. Every single one I have investigated
has an Android. Once there is a text in the
messages app, the next message seems to send
just fine. So, for example, I send a message to
ABC & it fails. I send it again & it
works. As long as I leave these messages in the
message app, I can successfully send another
message to ABC next week. If I were to delete
the messages from the message app, the whole process would start again.

This is very annoying & I have not found a setting I can change to fix it.

Twice in the last week, I have sent text
messages from the phone (7 plus?) and have
gotten back a message saying “message failed
to send.† In the first case, the message was
indeed sent, as I got a reply. Today, I had Siri
send the message, to someone in my contacts, and
still got the error message. (don’t know yet
whether recipient got the message sent today.)

What’s up? Is this an issue with my carrier
(Consumer Cellular) or the phone itself? Why
would it fail to send if I had Siri do it?

While LTE may not be present, another indicator might be, such as 3g

speed available.

Re: New Member, and a Question

2019-09-17 Thread Holly

Hi Rebecca:

Here is the explanation of LTE.

This week: “What does LTE mean on my phone, and why is it important when
using data?”

Smartphone apps and features like email, maps, and Internet browsing rely on
sending and receiving data across a cellular provider’s network. When
describing
cellular networks, you’ll commonly hear the terms 3G, 4G, and LTE. This
identifies the generation of network technology: 3G, or the third
generation network,

was developed before 4G.

After that, LTE data was introduced. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution, and
currently 4G LTE is the most advanced option available. When your phone is
connected to 4G LTE, you’re getting the maximum data speed possible with
your service, giving you superior download speeds and performance
capability.

Older cellphone models may not support newer data network technology, so it’s
important to select a model that supports a data speed that works for your

needs.

hi, I do not know about this particular collection, but I did inquire of my

Shirley,

With iOS 12.4.1, you can find Audio Descriptions under Settings, General,
Accessibility, place your rotor on headings and swipe down until you hear the
Media heading and Audio Descriptions is the second one under it.

Well, I went to general, accessibility on my phone and iPad and I didn't see
anything about what you're talking about. Exactly what is it supposed to say? I
even went to vision and looked there and didn't see anything. I do not have
windows 10 on my computer but would rather use my iPad since that sounds better.

On a windows 10 computer, you have to go into settings, Vision, and make sure
audio description is turned on. I don't know why it is under Vision.

Re: An audio description question

2019-09-17 Thread Shirley Baker
Well, I went to general, accessibility on my phone and iPad and I didn't see
anything about what you're talking about. Exactly what is it supposed to say? I
even went to vision and looked there and didn't see anything. I do not have
windows 10 on my computer but would rather use my iPad since that sounds better.

On a windows 10 computer, you have to go into settings, Vision, and make sure audio description is turned on. I don't know why it is under Vision.

Re: An audio description question

2019-09-17 Thread viola
hi,

You have to make sure that description is on under settings general
accessibility on your phone I believe. Before it will work.

if you’re trying it on your computer, I’m not really sure it just worked on my
computer because I have used audio description from other websites before and
it just worked. I’m not really sure about that

hi everyone, also, we discovered, that you can watch it on your computer as
well and there’s audio description if you watch it on the computer. Which we
don’t see so it doesn’t matter to us so it was great to have the speakers of my
computer and watch it out loud.

RE: iPhone 11, 11-Pro & 11ProMax From Blindness Perpective?

2019-09-17 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
I'm staying put on my XR, but we're likely finally upgrading my wife from her
6S.
We have a side business of arbitrage on eBay and Amazon as well as flipping on
local apps so for her, a good camera would help. Not that the 6S doesn't even
take half bad pics, but finally making the four year jump in camera
capabilities can only help. That and since she's often out and about scanning
and sourcing for merchandise, a faster phone and bigger screen is just going to
be better at this point.
Our initial impulse is to just go for the 11, but I wonder if going up to the
Pro Max would be worth it.
She's got a regular camera as well, but as many camera aficionados often say,
the best camera is the one you happen to have in your hand.
I help her out where I can, but she's obviously the photographer for stuff she
finds when sourcing and for her, being able to snap a pic, upload to the cloud
and edit right a way on one device is just way more convenient than taking pics
on a stand alone device then transferring and so on.
Man though, that's a big jump from $750 to $1250.
We'll see.

A lot of people are doing that same thing with phones now to. With T-mobile you
can jump to a new phone and they will start your payments over once the phone
is half way paid off. I got in on this early on, so my plans lets me two it
twice in a 12 month period no matter how much has been paid on the phone. This
plan didn't hang around very long, but those of us who got it while it was
offered were grandfathered into it and can keep it as long as we want.

Re: Blind square

2019-09-17 Thread Marie
It is important to remember that when Blind Square gives you the distance to
the next cross street, it is giving the distance from the middle of the street,
not the curb. This is, I believe due to the fact of the GPS systems being
intended for automobiles and not pedestrians.

James, GPS accuracy varies widely; so you could be 30 feet from a cross street
or 100.
If the streets are on the map, it should announce them, but some smaller
streets, paths, are not on maps, so without actually walking the route, no one
can say if everything will be announced. But, the following information from the
Blind Square help may give you some idea of what to try.
When BlindSquare announces your distance to an intersection, it uses the center
of the intersection as a reference point. This means that the width of the
street also determines how soon you hear the BlindSquare intersection
announcement before you reach the curb. If you live in an area where the
streets are narrow, you may find that BlindSquare announces intersections too
early, whereas in an area where streets are particularly wide, intersections
may be announced too late. If the default medium setting of this option does
not work to your satisfaction, try using the Long setting if streets in your
area are wide or Short if streets are very narrow.

not know your cane skills.

Can they assist you in getting there; absolutely.

  Blind Square can speak the street names that you are coming to/crossing;
while Apple Maps tells you when to turn.

I set blind square to streets only so I'm not hearing a bunch of business
names etc when I really just want to know the streets.

Apple Maps or Google maps can be launched from Blind square to do the

Hello, I don’t know if this helps at all, but iTunes rarely has audio
description for TV shows. They have it for quite a few movies, but not TV
shows. Unfortunately, just because a TV show has description when you watch it
on the TV network, it doesn’t mean it will translate to iTunes. That is
definitely something that needs to change, but right now that is not the case.
Also, if ever a movie, or TV show, on iTunes has description, it will say so in
the details of the show. For instance, the Ken Burns documentary does mention
closed captioning, but it doesn’t say anything about audio description. I hope
this helps.

RE: The Accessibility Bugs Introduced and Resolved in iOS 13 for Blind and Low Vision Users | AppleVis

2019-09-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I also experience this, but for me mostly this happens when I ask SIRI to make
a call and use a wired headset and then use the headset remote to hang up the
call. But I do know that others experience this as well and some a lot more
than me and not only for phone calls but also with Skype calls, Zoom and other
Voip apps. It needs to be reported to Apple since it's a fairly serious issue
but one which may be hard to pin down.

RE: "Message Failed to Send"

2019-09-17 Thread Susie Stageberg
I had no idea my question was going to cause such a flurry of messages.

To be clear: this happens to me no matter what kind of phone the recipient has.
And I’m not getting a “retry” option; it just says “failed to send” and goes
away. But in each case I have gotten a response, one from an iPhone and one
from an Android phone.

Might I just say, in all kindness, that I find the messages that say “I don’t
have this problem at all” less than helpful. I wanted to know if this was
something to be concerned about and what I might do to fix it. I have lots of
ideas about the latter. Those of you who are not plagued by this minor
irritant, I am glad for you.

I have the same issue. This seems to happen when I try to text those who do
not have an IPhone. Every single one I have investigated has an Android. Once
there is a text in the messages app, the next message seems to send just fine.
So, for example, I send a message to ABC & it fails. I send it again & it
works. As long as I leave these messages in the message app, I can
successfully send another message to ABC next week. If I were to delete the
messages from the message app, the whole process would start again.

This is very annoying & I have not found a setting I can change to fix it.

Twice in the last week, I have sent text messages from the phone (7 plus?) and
have gotten back a message saying “message failed to send.” In the first case,
the message was indeed sent, as I got a reply. Today, I had Siri send the
message, to someone in my contacts, and still got the error message. (don’t
know yet whether recipient got the message sent today.)

What’s up? Is this an issue with my carrier (Consumer Cellular) or the phone
itself? Why would it fail to send if I had Siri do it?

the 11 pro has longer battery life, faster processor, better camera

the coming Apple tags. There may be a few other improvements so if you

Re: An audio description question

2019-09-17 Thread Kevin Thompson
Hello, I don’t know if this helps at all, but iTunes rarely has audio
description for TV shows. They have it for quite a few movies, but not TV
shows. Unfortunately, just because a TV show has description when you watch it
on the TV network, it doesn’t mean it will translate to iTunes. That is
definitely something that needs to change, but right now that is not the case.
Also, if ever a movie, or TV show, on iTunes has description, it will say so in
the details of the show. For instance, the Ken Burns documentary does mention
closed captioning, but it doesn’t say anything about audio description. I hope

I've got verizon as well with my iPhone 8. I have had no issues with
text messages not sending. I can send messages using siri to my moms
android phone with no issues.

A PostScript to my prior message; I advise you be careful not to execute a
“Reset All” and be sure to select and activate the “Network Reset."

The “Reset All” will require all sorts of machinations to get your iPhone back
to how you want it configured.

Re: "Message Failed to Send"

2019-09-17 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via VIPhone
One reason this “Message Failed to Send” alert might appear to be specific to
Android users is likely because sending a message to another iPhone user will
result in an iMessage being sent. This is a red herring.

I was having the same problem and all of the notions expressed in this thread
did indeed pop into my mind as well. I am now subscribed as a Credo Network
user and, as evident from this thread, it does not appear to be a provider
specific issue.

After exhausting all the notions I could come up with, I finally called Credo
Tech Support; they had me execute a network reset on my iPhone and the problem
has completely resolved.

For those who might not be aware of the reset feature:

- Open Settings
- Select General
- Locate and select the Reset Button (Second control from the bottom of the
“General” dialog box just above the “Shutdown” button.
- Identify and select the “Network Reset line.

You will be required to enter your password and confirm you want to execute
this reset.

This should resolve the problem, it did for me!

Re: Is there a good program to edit and read Word Files in iOS?

2019-09-17 Thread Richard Turner
At this point; no.
The Word app, and the Pages app, are very difficult to get accurate information
from VoiceOver as to where you are editing.
Pages is the native Apple word processor that is probably on your phone.
You can only edit with the word app if you have a Microsoft account.
I think an office 365 account; but not sure on that bit of detail.

Hi.

I mentioned this a few days ago concerning reading a Word file. I’m just

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help needed using newly acquired Braille Display with Iphone and PC

2019-09-17 Thread Richard Turner
On a PC, there are not many programs that can read a braille file. You could
open it in Braille Blaster, a free program from American Printing House for the
blind. It is also a good program to convert word or txt files into brf.
Section 7 of the Bard User Manual explains how to read braille files from NLS.
Here is section 7.1, but you may want to read more. Almost all NLS braille
materials downloadable from BARD are in contracted braille. To read a
contracted braille book or magazine with BARD Mobile, you must set braille
input and output to eight-dot and you must turn off single-letter Quick Nav.
Even with eight-dot braille on, BARD Mobile will display your book or magazine
in six-dot braille. You can turn eight-dot braille input on with dots
2-3-6-spacebar. You can turn eight-dot braille output on with 1-2-4-5-spacebar.
Both of these can also be set from within braille on the VoiceOver settings
menu of your iOS device. The command for toggling single-letter Quick Nav is
spacebar with dots 1-2-3-4-5-7.

as for pc, I have no idea what I should be using. I also had this little issue
where the phone would lock, and the display would disconnect. any way to turn
that off? I'm very new to displays so any help would be much appreciated. thank
