Re: question about ios6 for developers

2012-05-21 Thread Jan Blüher
Hallo William,

there is already support for rtf documents in iOS. At least reading shouldn't
be a problem. Apple's Cocoa Touch framework includes a so-called UIWebView
class, which can handle rtf files.
You can observe this when reading a rtf that is attached to an e-mail.

However, a developer might choose another way of presenting the files ...

Greetings

 Any hints would be great,

allof their books or anything like that. People take what they want to read
within a reasonable length of time, at least I think so. I think we would have
a right to enjoy the bard library anytime as we do now, no matter what the

The following article, which appears in this week's edition of
   the Matilda
Ziegler Magazine for the Blind, describes some of the
   enhancements to the
BARD and NLS programs we can expect to see this year:
Feature Writer John Christie - National Library Service Increases
   Reading
   Options
The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically
   Handicapped is
making some positive changes to the Bard web site that I think
   you might
like. First and foremost, you will be able to read talking books
   on iPhones,
iPads, and Android based mobile devices. However, these mobile
   apps will
have to protect Talking Books from unauthorized use. All of
   their files will
have to be encrypted so that only devices authorized by NLS and
   used by
registered patrons will be able to access books. This process
   was one of the
biggest hurdles to overcome while they were developing the app.
Plans are also in the works to distribute audio magazines
   including Talking
Book Topics on digital cartridges. At least three magazines can
   be put on a
single digital cartridge. Because of the higher cost of these
   cartridges,
though, users will have to mail them back to the library so that
   more
magazines can be put on them.
Web-Braille, which was started in 1999, will be on the Bard
   website as well.
Now, you will be able to download Braille magazines, music
   scores, and
Braille books all from just one website. Previously, Web-Braille
   had its own
   website.
The NLS collection will now also have a broader selection of
   materials with
synthetic-speech narration because they will be joining forces
   with
commercial audiobook producers. NLS still has to be granted
   permission from
the rights holders to use commercial audiobooks, but they are
   constantly
   working on that issue.
In recent years, audiobooks have come from one producer,
   Brilliance Audio.
NLS has only had the money to obtain 200 audiobook titles a year.
   Now, they
are reaching out to other audiobook publishers. For the most
   part, people
are pretty happy with BARD: it is simple, it provides a basic
   need, and it
does that well. [But] it is growing like crazy, and we have to
   plan for
that, said Michael Martys, an NLS automation officer.
It costs $4,500 to produce a talking book from scratch. However,
   it costs
much less when you have the master files of a commercial
   audiobook. This
includes the work that NLS has to do with the book which includes
navigational markup and metadata and convert the files into
   digital talking
books. Because the commercial audiobooks don't cost as much to
   produce, this
could free up funds to produce more books each year.
Working with commercial audiobook producers will also allow NLS
   to get the
book out much, much faster, said Neil Bernstein, NLS research
   and
development officer. And patrons will get to hear a wider
   variety of
narrators--perhaps even discovering some new favorites.
In the months ahead, NLS will evaluate the quality of various
   text-to-speech
programs and begin to experiment with producing books using that
technology--not to take the place of live narration, but to
   augment what
they have. For example, it could be used, by

Hi Kevin,

First locate the contact you want to delete.
Next double-tap the Edit button which you will find in the upper
portion of the screen. I can't remember if it's toward the right or
left, but it is definitely at the top.
Move to the bottom of the contact info. You can do this by tapping
with four fingers near the bottom of the screen.
Double-tap the Delete button, which is the last element on the screen
and is located at the very bottom.
On the next screen you should find a delete contact button and a
cancel button. Double-tap the Delete Contact button to remove the
contact.
Return to your contacts list and the contact will be gone.

I hope this helps.

I have just purchased the above microphone but rather understood that there

Perhaps someone can correct me on this?

I have a strange problem with some of my ring tones on my IPhone 4 s.
What is happening is that when I go to sync my ring tones I get a message
that says that some of the tones were not loaded on the phone because the
songs could not be found. All the songs are in the same place and if you
play them from the playlist or the view where you can check or uncheck them,
they all play. I have had some of these on this phone before so I know they
work. If anyone has any ideas I could sure use them. Thanks much.

Re: typing on the phone

2012-05-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm still a relatively new iPhone user, and I've been trying touch
typing lately myself, but I tended to swap the roles of my fingers
depending on which side of the keyboard I was on. For example, I usually
use the pointer finger on my right hand, but if I know I'm going to be
typing something on the far right side of the keyboard, like a 'l' or a
'p' then I know my middle finger might be hanging off the edge of the
keyboard, so I'll swap the roles and look for the character with my
middle finger and tap with my pointer.

Another thing I realized, as I experiment with different typing methods,
is that when split tapping, I tend to sweep my finger back and forth
across the keyboard and never lift it off the iPhone. When I first
started touch typing, I resented having to take my finger off the
keyboard, but now what I'm finding, is that instead of placing the
finger back on the keyboard in the same spot where it was when I took it
off the keyboard, I now try to locate the next character without
sweeping my finger across the keyboard itself. I think this has made me
a slightly faster typer with touch typing than with split tapping. I
know this probably sounds pretty obvious to the experienced iPhone
users, but in case there's anyone else out there who's still learning
like I am then maybe this tip will help.

BTW, I still need to experiment with using my thumbs. I also am glad
this discussion has continued. I wouldn't have given touch typing
another try so quickly if we hadn't had this discussion.

 thing that seemed odd.

I've learned much from this typing discussion. Initially, I loved the
touch typing method, but it seems to me that iOS has gotten less
responsive, even across hardware, than I remember it being when I got
my first iOS device most of two years ago. It may just be my
expectations, but I remember touch typing faster, and more accurately,
when I got that device than I can now. Prompted by this thread, I'm
trying out the split tap method and am quite intrigued.

I'm trying out twitterific and like it. However, it apparently doesn't send

Re: typing on the phone

2012-05-21 Thread Rob Harris
Depends if the tapper is likely to hit the edge of the screen, then we have
to swap or change angle dramatically, and have to do a certain amount even
when touch typing as control type keys need it regardless. - shift, return,
More numbers/letter/other, etc.

But a recent theme about double thumb typing offered an interesting
deviation in which case covering half the kb each, the appropriate thumb
hunts and the other taps, and vicerVersa.

Re: Avoid Skype 4.0.1325 update

2012-05-21 Thread Sieghard
Hi Kevin,

I just updated my Skype as well and even made sure that the update
installed by going to About Skype: in the My Info tab and I do
have 4.0.1325.

I don't see any changes in accessibility, I can go into the Messages
Tab, open up old conversations and read all the messages that were
sent back and forth, I can see when calls were made, their duration
etc. The Dialpad also still works fine.

I actually sent you several IM's on Skype using my iPhone 4S, I
dictated the messages using SIRI and then doubl tapped Send and
since I had Skype open on my computer at the same time he messages
showed up there as well and everything seems fine.

wanted this clarified from some one who knows more about this stuff than I do.
If I am able to scan mail, which app would be more benefitial for me?

issues with wi-fi

2012-05-21 Thread Melissa Tucker
My ipad shows I'm connected to wi-fi here at home, however, my att data gave
me a message this morning that no more data is available on my data plan that I
use when on the road or out of town. Why did my data plan get used when I'm
clearly logged on as being on wi-fi? I upgraded my ios last week, and I don't
like some of the new functions, such as when I scroll down to see how many
signal bars I have and such, the system doesn't show me the time. Thanks for
any advice or thoughts on this.

RE: twitteriffic and notifications

2012-05-21 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Mary, Echofon and the official Twitter for iPhone app are the only two
accessible options I'm aware of that have native push notifications. Some
choose to use a third party push service, such as Boxcar, to work around
this. I find Boxcar to be increasingly flaky and a battery drain so have
removed it from my phone. Echofon does not support displaying of real names,
showing only a person's Twitter username, so for now I use Twitter for
iPhone primarily. Tweetlist has been promising for a long time that push is
just around the corner, but we're still waiting.

I'm trying out twitterific and like it. However, it apparently doesn't send
notifications. Looked in the notification center and settings and have not
found anything that I might turn on to make this happen. Am I missing
something? It seems like a great app, but it would be nice to have the
ability to be notified when new tweets come, or when new tweets from a
specific person come in.

Hello list,
The subject is basically my question. I had to order a new iPhone recently
since my 4S was stolen. My husband and I purchased the new iPhone since his
was upgrade eligible. I want to use my old phone number on his new phone.
Someone from ATT said that it would work, but I would need to call ATt
with the sim card number. Is the SIM card number the same as the serial
number? Can it be found on the phone? I purchased the phone from the Apple
website, and the invoice lists a serial number. Could the SIM card number be
listed as something else?
I am just too impatient to wait for a few days until I can get sighted
assistance or go to an ATT store to get my phone activated when I could do
it from home. Smile emoticon

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

there is still one gesture I'm having a lot of difficulty with. It's the
rotor, I know you have to turn two fingers as though you are pressing a dial
but I find that some times it doesn't work. It makes a sound but the setting
doesn't move. I was wondering if anyone experiences this problem and also
what the best finger positioning for the Rotor is.

 Any advice is much appreciated.

Re: Activating the Notification Center

2012-05-21 Thread Wayne Merritt
Regarding the notification center, one solution is to lock the phone,
unlock it, and on the unlock screen swipe/flick to the right to view
current alerts/notifications.

Regarding the page turning gesture, I always have my fingers in a
vertible line, but I heard from someone a few days ago that the
gesture will work whether your fingers are top to bottom or side to
side. I think as long as you've got 3 fingers on the screen and
they're all moving to the left or right at once, it doesn't matter how
you have them. It makes more sense to me to have my fingers
vertically, like turning a page in a book.

Regards,
Wayne Merritt

 Hi,

I'm doing quite well with most of the iPhone gestures, except the one that
enables one to activate the notification center. I know you are supposed to
swipe downward with three fingers, but I can rarely get it to work or
replicate it once I have succeeded. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 Thanks in advance.

Sometimes you can find it on your carrier's website. In Canada, Bell

have to have a sighted person read it.

 Hello list,
The subject is basically my question.

IM+ Pro, the instant messaging app, also has full Twitter support and

your direct messages, specific users' tweets, and so forth are all
possible to do.

removed it from my phone. Echofon does not support displaying of real names,
showing only a person's Twitter username, so for now I use Twitter for

Re: iTunes Alternatives

2012-05-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Previously I went looking for a good media manager, and several of them
claimed to support the iPod. I didn't have an iPhone at the time, so I
didn't care about that particular feature. You don't say what OS or
screen reader you're using, so I'll assume you're talking about Windows.

Winamp and FooBar are both accessible and have iPod support either built
in or as a plug in. A page with links to more information is at
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/29716/heres-five-alternatives-to-itunes-10-for-easily-managing-your-ipod/

Media Monkey and Songbird also claim to support the iPod, and I had some
success with them with respect to accessibility, although at the time, I
wouldn't call either of them accessible. Songbird has been changing
rapidly, so it might be worth taking a look at again.

A more comprehensive list of iTunes alternatives, some of which may be
accessible, can be found at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_iPod_managers

On Linux, I see that RhythmBox, Banshee, Clementine and Amarok all have
some level of iPod support, and I know RhythmBox is accessible.

I haven't heard any of these alternatives discussed on list yet though,
so if you give any of them a try, I'd be curious to know how you get a
long. I suppose I may try RhythmBox at some point, but I'm pretty much
trying to rely on the cloud for now.

Another option is to use the cloud. I use Ubuntu One for example, which
has a Ubuntu, Windows, IOS and Android client. I don't think there's a
Mac client though, at least not yet.

Melissa, while I can't specifically address your question in detail,
I would certainly concur that there are definitely wi fi issues in

RE: issues with wi-fi

2012-05-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Melissa,

I am so sorry your iPad inadvertently used up all of your data.

The reason for this is that, since updating I suspect, your Wi-Fi connection
has dropped out.

Yours is the first I've heard happening on an iPad, however.

I suggest you do the following from time-to-time during the next 24 hours or
so:

1.
Power cycle your iOS device. Be sure not to launch any apps after the
system is up and running.

2.
On your iOS device, go to Settings.

3.
Confirm that you are connected to your selected Wi-Fi. You can do this by
simply touching the appropriate Item in the Settings list; that is, there is
no need to actually open the Wi-Fi menu item.

4.
Assuming that your Wi-Fi does not say Not Connected, close the Settings
area and make sure focus is placed back on your normal iOS launch pad.

5.
Lock your iOS device by pressing the Sleep/Wake button.

6.
After about 10 minutes or so, wake-up your device and go into the Settings
area and check to see if the Wi-Fi is still connected. Chances are, it will
report that it is not connected.

Melissa, if you find that you are losing your Wi-Fi connection, you may need
to reset all of your network settings. This should fix the problem.

To everyone:

Please be aware that I have discovered several apps that seem to break Wi-Fi
connectivity since 5.1.1 was released. I have removed them from my iOS

My ipad shows I'm connected to wi-fi here at home, however, my att data
gave me a message this morning that no more data is available on my data
plan that I use when on the road or out of town.  Why did my data plan get
used when I'm clearly logged on as being on wi-fi?  I upgraded my ios last
week, and I don't like some of the new functions, such as when I scroll down
to see how many signal bars I have and such, the system doesn't show me the
time.  Thanks for any advice or thoughts on this.

WiFi Dropping or Not Listed In WiFi settings

2012-05-21 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

Recently, this has happened twice within the last 2 weeks. Fortunately, I
have the alert on to warn me to sign on to a WiFi connection or to cancel.
This is the only way that I knew that I was not using my WiFi and 3G was
eating at my data. I could check every time I open the phone, but that would
get old after a while. When I went into settings and checked my WiFi
options, my ISP was not listed nor the one other in the neighborhood. I used
the sleep/lock button 5 times to see if that would fix it and it did.
However, this doesn't get to the root of the problem to make a permanent fix
to the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or an explanation on why this
is happening? I am running iPhone4 with IOS 5.0.1.

Thanks in advance.

RE: issues with wi-fi

2012-05-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Veronica,

You ask an interesting question.

My answer is that it depends upon how you have the app setup. For example,
in my case, I had the CNN app setup to give me notifications. Now, perhaps,
if I had not allowed either notifications or allowed the app to access my
current location, it would not have broken my Wi-Fi. Frankly, by the time I
isolated the problem, I didn't care anymore, I only wanted my Wi-Fi to stay
connected.

Finally, I am not saying that the CNN app, alone, is the problem, I am
saying that removing it fixed my issue.

Mark, very interesting about apps that break wifi. Maybe this is a silly
question, but I have CNN on my phone, but haven't used it since installing
5.1.1. I can't imagine that this app would break wifi connections if I don't
call upon it. But could I be wrong here? In a way, I hope so. grin. I
don't use this app very much and it would be really cool if deleting it
would solve the problem. grin. Maybe I'll kick it out anyway. Thanks a
bunch.

Hello Melissa,

I am so sorry your iPad inadvertently used up all of your data.

The reason for this is that, since updating I suspect, your Wi-Fi
connection has dropped out.

Yours is the first I've heard happening on an iPad, however.

I suggest you do the following from time-to-time during the next 24
hours or
so:

1.
Power cycle your iOS device. Be sure not to launch any apps after the
system is up and running.

2.
On your iOS device, go to Settings.

3.
Confirm that you are connected to your selected Wi-Fi. You can do this
by simply touching the appropriate Item in the Settings list; that is,
there is no need to actually open the Wi-Fi menu item.

4.
Assuming that your Wi-Fi does not say Not Connected, close the
Settings area and make sure focus is placed back on your normal iOS launch
pad.

5.
Lock your iOS device by pressing the Sleep/Wake button.

6.
After about 10 minutes or so, wake-up your device and go into the
Settings area and check to see if the Wi-Fi is still connected.
Chances are, it will report that it is not connected.

Melissa, if you find that you are losing your Wi-Fi connection, you may
need to reset all of your network settings. This should fix the problem.

To everyone:

Please be aware that I have discovered several apps that seem to break
Wi-Fi connectivity since 5.1.1 was released. I have removed them from
my iOS device and now my Wi-Fi connection is rock-solid, again. The
apps I removed were the CNN USA App and both of the Time Warner cable Apps.

RE: WiFi Dropping or Not Listed In WiFi settings

2012-05-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Eileen,

Setting the iPhone to ask before joining a Wi-Fi hotspot is certainly one
way to become aware of any Wi-Fi problems. However, this request will only
come if an app requires Wi-Fi; you will not know exactly when the connection
was lost, a vital component in troubleshooting.

Also, I have noticed that, even when my Wi-Fi was not connected, before
fixing the problem, it would become connected when an app made a request.
Thus setting the phone to ask before connecting, in some instances, can
cause an app not to connect when it otherwise would have. It all depends
upon the specific nature of the Wi-Fi connectivity problem.

As far as I know, Apple has not yet acknowledged this problem despite
hundreds and hundreds of posts about it.

You can also access xm channels on OOTunes by searching for music

Re: Avoid Skype 4.0.1325 update

2012-05-21 Thread Sieghard
Kevin,

You should read more than one post about broken accessibility before
making such comments. It appears Kevin Chao has a specific issue which
so far nobody else has confirmed. At least 5 or 6 others including
myself have absolutely no problems with this Skype update, so no, the
dumbasses aren't all that dumb after all and maybe Kevin has already
solved whatever issue he had by removing and reinstalling the app, at
least I hope so. I hope all other 1273 list members (not counting you
and myself) found your post as useful as I did.

And for all those who wonder if they should upgrade to the latest
Skype update, it seems you can safely do so, if you are worried you
may experience the same issue as Kevin just update from your phone so
at least you can delete the app if there is a problem and sync with
the previous version in your iTunes library. I have copied this latest
version to a Backup folder so in case something ever happens and
accessibility truly does get damaged at least I have a version I can
use and for certain apps which are important I think keeping copies of
versions where accessibility works well is always a good idea.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: iPhone, iPad, and 1 bluetooth keyboard

2012-05-21 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Robbie,

I think the eaqsiest way to do what you want to do and not buy a second
keyboard is to make sure that bluetooth is not turn on on both of your devices
at the same time if both are in range of the keyboard. You could be away from
home and have the keyboard and your phone work just fine, and bluetooth could
be active on your IPad that you left at home. But you can't have them both with
bluetooth switched on and in range of each other. I have a friend who
discovered this when he purchased an IPod Touch and tried using it with his bt
keyboard while at the same time having his IPhone on and in close proximity to
his location with the Touch.

 6.
After about 10 minutes or so, wake-up your device and go into the Settings

report that it is not connected.

Melissa, if you find that you are losing your Wi-Fi connection, you may need
to reset all of your network settings. This should fix the problem.

 To everyone:

Please be aware that I have discovered several apps that seem to break Wi-Fi

Re: is it possible to determine Sim card number without removing it?

2012-05-21 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

Yes - thats what most people use it for, but it from memory will also
give you the imei which is what I think you're after. You don't have
to do anything like jailbreak to run it; just open it with your phone
connected and it *should* detect the phone and give you some different
bits of information about it. If you think you've messed up whilst
using it and for whatever reason you accidentally pressed a button and
your phone stops talking which could happen, just remember that
tinyUmbrella won't do anything permanent to your phone - rebooting it
will bring it back to how it was.
In otherwords, downgrading the operating system is a multi step
process which involves tinyUmbrella, iTunes and some files that you
need to download - there simply is no way that you will inadvertently
downgrade the phone just by running tinyUmbrella.

When I used it, I was trying to find out what network a 3GS that I had
acquired was locked to. It was an American network and I'm in the uk,
so I was unable to activate the phone to get any info from it at all.
Using tinyUmbrella, I found the imei and confirmed via a website I
found that that specific imei was locked to att.
That phone in question did end up jailbroken, but that was because I
needed to use an unofficial unlock - you have no need to jailbreak if
you don't want to.

Cheers,
Ben.

a question to twitterific users

2012-05-21 Thread Cris
Hi folks,
Does anyone know how to follow a twitter user using twitterific? I searched in
every possible corner of this app and I could not find a place to do so. Unless
this user is already included in one of the tweets of the people I am already
following. Suppose you give me your twitter name and ask me to follow you, and
I want to do this rightaway on the iPhone, without having to wait until I go
home and search your name on the pc. How do I do that? Twitterific is a nice
program, but this feature is either missing or hidden. Please correct me if I
am wrong

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi,

Yes - thats what most people use it for, but it from memory will also give
you the imei which is what I think you're after. You don't have to do
anything like jailbreak to run it; just open it with your phone connected
and it *should* detect the phone and give you some different bits of
information about it. If you think you've messed up whilst using it and for
whatever reason you accidentally pressed a button and your phone stops
talking which could happen, just remember that tinyUmbrella won't do
anything permanent to your phone - rebooting it will bring it back to how it
was.
In otherwords, downgrading the operating system is a multi step process
which involves tinyUmbrella, iTunes and some files that you need to download
- there simply is no way that you will inadvertently downgrade the phone
just by running tinyUmbrella.

When I used it, I was trying to find out what network a 3GS that I had
acquired was locked to. It was an American network and I'm in the uk, so I
was unable to activate the phone to get any info from it at all.
Using tinyUmbrella, I found the imei and confirmed via a website I found
that that specific imei was locked to att.
That phone in question did end up jailbroken, but that was because I needed
to use an unofficial unlock - you have no need to jailbreak if you don't
want to.

Cheers,
Ben.

I *think* tinyUmbrella will give you the imei, but I can't remember

 do a bit of exploring.

Sorry I couldn't be more exact.

at least you can delete the app if there is a problem and sync with

Previously I went looking for a good media manager, and several of them
claimed to support the iPod. I didn't have an iPhone at the time, so I
didn't care about that particular feature. You don't say what OS or screen
reader you're using, so I'll assume you're talking about Windows.

Winamp and FooBar are both accessible and have iPod support either built in
or as a plug in. A page with links to more information is at
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/29716/heres-five-alternatives-to-itunes-10-fo

Media Monkey and Songbird also claim to support the iPod, and I had some
success with them with respect to accessibility, although at the time, I
wouldn't call either of them accessible. Songbird has been changing rapidly,
so it might be worth taking a look at again.

A more comprehensive list of iTunes alternatives, some of which may be
accessible, can be found at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_iPod_managers

On Linux, I see that RhythmBox, Banshee, Clementine and Amarok all have some
level of iPod support, and I know RhythmBox is accessible.

I haven't heard any of these alternatives discussed on list yet though, so
if you give any of them a try, I'd be curious to know how you get a long. I
suppose I may try RhythmBox at some point, but I'm pretty much trying to
rely on the cloud for now.

Another option is to use the cloud. I use Ubuntu One for example, which has
a Ubuntu, Windows, IOS and Android client. I don't think there's a Mac
client though, at least not yet.

A page with links to more information is at
 http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/29716/heres-five-alternatives-to-itunes-10-fo
 r-easily-managing-your-ipod/

Hi Melissa, in Twitter for iPhone, you can manage lists, but not create
them. I create my lists using the Qube on my PC, which is by far my
preferred means of accessing Twitter, because I have a template I've
customised that speeds me way up.

It looks like you can't actually create lists in Tweetlist either.

Yours is the first I've heard happening on an iPad, however.

I suggest you do the following from time-to-time during the next 24

so:

Re: issues with wi-fi

2012-05-21 Thread James Mannion
Some of you, Mark and maybe others, bring up an interesting point. It
has always been my experience and understanding that IOS drops the
wifi connection intentionally if nothing is using it after it has been
locked for some period of time and then is suppose to transparrently
reconnect when you wake it up. Over many versions it has also been my
experience that from time to time it does not reliably reconnect
without some manual double tapping on the network you want in wifi
under settings. Sometimes pressing the power button to lock the screen
and unlocking it again triggers it successfully. I also understand the
problems you have been point out are loss of connection even while in
use, but I think both while in use and while the screen is locked have
been referenced. I have not yet upgraded to 5.1.1, but can not be sure
the upgrade will not be forced through circumstances at some point. I
am hoping there is not a reason to have to try to avoid it and that it
is not tied to having a very troublesome experience. It is encouraging
that Mark has reported it to be solid though (this issue at least)
worked out in his case under 5.1.1.

That's really weird because it's worked fine here everytime I've used
it. Same with the other tabs at the bottom. Is the categories tab the
 only one that does this?

What's the exact problem? I'm just curious because the categories list
doesn't seem to give me any issues at all -- does the tab not open for
you? I'd like to help if I can.

Mark, the biggest problem I have is changing channels. I encounter
difficulty, for example, in going to the list of categories, which is
 my
preferred method of navigation through this app.

Really, eh? I just downloaded and tried out the official XM app and,
aside from some unlabelled buttons that were pretty easy to figure
out, the app seems very accessible to me. Sure, it's not as accessible
as OOTunes but it's very similar to Music Dock aside from the
unlabelled buttons. That's just what I've found anyway -- perhaps I
 haven't tested it enough.

 Hi Jennifer,

Musicdoc is the best app, but it doesn't provide access to any of the
 sports
play by play broadcasts, nor does it allow access to the Radio
 Classics
channel which you can now get through Sirius XM's app. Having said
 that,
the app is still not as accessible as it should be, it's better than
 it
 was,
however. The main problem I experience is activating Categories to
 change
channels. I have to unload VoiceOver, and tap on the screen near the
 home
button, but it's not as reliable as I'd like it to be. So in
 summary,
 it
can be used, but it's not an easy process.

 Hey there,

I don't know about the xm app itself, but you can get music dock.
 This
app allows you to listen to xm channels and is accessible if you
 have
an online account. Just search for Music Dock in the app store,
 without the quotations of course.

You can also access xm channels on OOTunes by searching for music
dock in that app as well. I haven't tried it yet but hear it
 streams
better there, provided you have an online account -- it'll ask to
enter a username and pass word when going to listen to an xm station
 from what I've heard.

 HTH!
