However, one problem I'm frequently experiencing is that the speech to text does not recognise how to spell my name accurately. I am in my own contacts, so I don't really understand why it keeps putting the vowels in the wrong place. I know it's probably to do with pronunciation, and I guess I need to work out how it wants me to pronounce my name so that it will put it in correctly, however it is my name and I pronounce it how I pronounce it. :) Is there a way of teaching it how I wanted to write it? Is there a way of making it take it from my address book correctly? I guess I will just have to write out manually if not, but the thing is, I keep forgetting, and I keep forgetting to check the spelling, because it sounds right-ish, so it keeps sending them with incorrect spelling because I have forgotten to correct it. :) Should I try to spell it out letter by letter four example? I'd rather pay for a notetaking app that would emulate a braille notetaker; that will do the same thing that it does. The only vaguely interesting things seem to be the custom hotkeys and the tilt feature, although I'm not sure what's wrong with a turn the page style swipe. AFB the creaters almost certainly don't think it's worth the pricetag, but unfortunately this is just economies of scale coming into play - because such a small amount of people will buy the app, they simply can't charge any less assuming they want to profit. Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store
Rob The keyboard is only spoken when you place your finger on the screen and hold it there to enter characters manually. Using Fleksy the way it is intended, you simply type the word you want to type, approximating where the letters are on the screen. Then Fleksy will use that pattern to predict the word. I've found the majority of the time it is correct. If they suggest a different word, you simply swipe one finger downwards to hear alternatives. After you type a word, you swipt right with one finger to hear Fleksy's suggestion. If correct, you just start typing the next word. If you need to use the down swipe to hear alternatives, once you find the one you want you start typing the next word. It means you can type a lot faster as you don't need to find a letter, listen to VO announce it and then type it. You just type out the pattern of tht word and it doesn't have to be exact for Fleksy to recognise it. Within the app itself is a link to the instructions on the Website and these are very short but extremely clear. Hope this helps. Re: Braille touch and it's equivalents
TypeInBraille is the one most get to sue, but mixed feedback. it's good for quick, short text done relaiably without dependenceon hearing what you're doing; but a reak BT keyboard is the only way for longer works. I don't find the iOs device that good for real work like that, but that's just me, brought up with DOS and most the Windows with comprehendable editing functions, navigation really. the TiB app offers some of that, then you go to the menu to say what you then want to do with your efforts. Copy to clipboard is the most flexible of course as you can take it and paste it into anything after that. - Original Message - From: Kirsten Edmondson kirsten.edmond...@btinternet.com To: Viphone Group viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, July 14, 2012 3:43 AM Subject: Braille touch and it's equivalents Hi, I'm asking this question in a professional capacity, as I I'm looking for an app Like this for a student of mine who is blind. Does the app exist yet? Or is it still in the developer stage? I understand also from testing that others have done that you can only use it within the app, a bit like flexie? If Braille touch does not yet exist, are there other similar apps? I seem to remember people talking about various different ones in the past, but I have no idea what they're all called. If anybody could give me any suggestions, I would appreciate it. The app itself would be required for use on an iPad three. I plan to look at the Applevis blogs etc too so that should help. Thanks. What this means is that when you complete the word you are typing, a swipe to the right inserts the word followed by a space character and it is verbalized by Fleksy. If the word is correct, you continue typing the next word. If the word is not correct, you can swipe up and I believe down to hopefully find the word you want and it will be entered. Re: I got the Fleksy app and I'm having fun typing ... - from Fleksy
Don't have Fleksy here, but from the demonstrations I've heard, when you turn VO back on after typing, flick right and one of the buttons that appears is copy. Double tap that and your text is copied to the clipboard. Apparently everything is already selected when you put it in Fleksy. I see in this mail the original message. When doing email, I cannot access Fleksy from the gmail I have on the phone. How can I do this? Also, how do I send a text from Fleksy? Do I have to copy and go into messages and paste? I have read the small tutorial on the Fleksy site and listened to the podcast on Applevis, but I do not seem to have the same controls as others. Any help is appreciated. I love the app a lot, but I really wanted to have more functionality than I do. Probably missing something but spent about 6 hours working with it last night. Hello, If you live in the States You could always set up an Apple Id for your sister, you would, of course, have to put your credit card on file with Apple for that Apple Id or, I assume, you could maybe buy a US prepaid Visa or something like that and your sister could pay you back the money; all depends if you are close and trust her to pay you back. I haven't done this, but I assume somebody from the US or Canada can buy apps when visiting another country, maybe somebody who knows more about this could chime in and confirm. Re: Fast typing with Fleksy
Name a application that had a demo of it before you bought it. Usually it had limitations on the program but how or what type of restrictions could you put on this application to give a demo. Hi Phil, I hate to burst your bubble, but the iCloud website at this point is not very accessible as you noticed, but buying a Mac will not help here, from what I hear it is equally inaccessible with a Mac at this point and maybe even more so because you can do some stuff if you are good with the Jaws cursor. Re: Thoughts on Flexy being integrated as a keyboard option on IOS
Hmmm, I don't personally like a solution that would require a jail break. However, you bring up a thought for me. Flexy has something on their instructions page describing something about offering their keyboard to developers to use within their app. So, maybe there is a developer out there that might have an accessible messaging/texting app where the flexy keyboard can be used. That's just a thought. Maybe I completely misunderstood that portion of the flexy instructions though. LOL! Things tend to go way over my head. Hi, I totally understand what you're saying. However, I'm not advocating not to fight for apple to integrate other keyboards into the IOS. However, if they are not going to do that I don't see an issue in someone creating a work around as that's all most jailbreak tweaks are. RE: Thoughts on Flexy being integrated as a keyboard option on IOS

RE: Notes or to-do's
Richard: I want to place things I need to do in a list. The native notes app will only let one thing go into each note. I also would like to be able to send my, say grocery list, by email after I have filled in choices. Mostly I want to be able to enter any time, say if I run out of garlic salt, and see other things I put in earlier in the same note. I want the to-do list to be separate but available at the same time as the grocery list. Does this help? Fleksy would work only to copy into the app, but still good for that. Re: Perfect OCR (Free for limited time)
So far, the application works with semi-ok results. Using the camera was a bit tricky though. This was made more difficult in my situation do to having my phone in a case with a camera cover but my resulting OCR was better than anything else I've seen so far. Wasn't able to use any shortcuts to click the camera so had to rely on doubletapping the button. The app asks you to snap three pictures of the document, in this example the instructions for an itunes giftcard. I really think that if one were to place the phone in a stand of some sort, this app would really work well with what I've noticed. Take care. Re: Notes or to-do's
Notes can be done like that. I agree that typing the new content in osmething else can help, I use TypeInBraille, but you can still open and edit any note, and when you've navigated to the right spot, paste the new content. have to say, I don't like VO's block marking or selection, so that level of editing is a VO thing and not an issue with the Note app itself. NoteBox does the same, but saves the notes on Dropbox, Droptext can then do both access and edit them at any time. Hth too. Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store
Hi Wayne I never got the hang of predictive text on the iPhone, funny how we all can/can't do different things? I did think about the price, but thought I would take the plunge. I can already see how it will make me do things a lot faster and while I still think it is on the expensive side, I do think I'll get my value for money. Barbara -Original Message- From: Wayne Merritt Sent: Saturday, July 14, 2012 6:13 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store Barbara, You offer a great description of the power of Fleksy. I thought using predictive texting was slow on my old Nokia phone with Talks, and then I discovered how to add words to the dictionary it used. All of a sudden, predictive texting became more fun and useful for me. I am still on the fence about Fleksy due to the price and the initial version. I think I will wait to see what is added/fixed in coming versions, but it is on my apps to watch list. I've also got an external Bluetooth keyboard and have just learned how to do auto correct on the iPhone. Fleksy sounds extremely useful though. Lirking, Wayne On 7/14/12, Barbara Wilson barkingbabs1...@gmail.com wrote: Rob The keyboard is only spoken when you place your finger on the screen and hold it there to enter characters manually. Fleksy issue
Gee, this just isn't my week for new apps, I guess. I'm having some trouble with Fleksy. It's quite sluggish. After I lift my finger it takes a second or 2 before I hear the click. It rarely accepts the first letter of each word and it's nearly impossible for me to get it to accept the letter 'm'. I've cleaned my screen and rebooted twice in hopes that this would make a diference, oh, and I cleaned out the App Switcher. Any ideas? Re: Is there an iPhone 4 with 8GB capacity
I didn't buy one at the time, but when Apple came out with the iPhone 4, you could get an 3G with 8G for $49. I think ATT offered the 8G iPhone 4 for $99 after the iPhone 4S came out. RE: Fast typing with Fleksy
Hi Christopher, I don't know if that is an Apple limitation, but there are no trial apps ever. Developers can make so-called Lite versions of their apps and many do this. The Lite version has limited functionality and typically is free. I agree, Fleksy could be offered as a light version maybe with a limitation to only allow for typing 100 characters or whatever and as you said, they could disable the email and SMS links since otherwise somebody could use the free version to type short text messages. Maybe this is something you could suggest to the developers. On the other hand of course there has been so much positive discussion that I think it's pretty much clear that the overwhelming response to Fleksy is positive. Re: Fast typing with Fleksy
Hello all, Here are my impressions of Fleksy. As others have noted, its ability to accurately identify words is really quite incredible, and the answer to whether typing common words in Fleksy is faster than typing them using the default on-screen keyboard, is an unequivocal yes. It sometimes seems as though it's reading my mind, the accuracy is so good! If there were a couple shortcomings in this premium-priced app, you first have to realize that a premise of using the app correctly is that you know how to spell every word you are planning to type perfectly. There is no spell checker or autr-correct function at all. So if, say, you're trying to spell the word 'conscientious' but you make a trivial spelling error, the app may not guess the word at all. Also, it seems a bit odd to me that there is no way to capitalize words at will, especially proper names that you may add to the dictionary such as Viphone, or names of companies and organizations such as Simon Fraser University, or words which are sometimes capitalized but sometimes aren't such as Dad. I hope this is added as soon as possible because if you want to write professional messages you're going to probably have to do a little bit of editing once you've taken the Fleksy message where it needs to go. And maybe it's just habit, but I do wish there was a more convenient way of entering the spacebar rather than flicking right, as it does seem to be a little jarring to my typing flow. All in all, it's a brilliant concept and a great first version of a promising app. Grant -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. That way you can use it instantly when you want to use it, without having to wait for the dictionary files to be loaded. You must wait about 1 minute for the app to load. This is unlike other apps where they generally load instantly. - Original Message - From: Chuck Dean cadean...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, July 14, 2012 6:44 AM Subject: Re: fleksy So far, everyone seems to like the app. I will say that the app works as well or better than the podcasts. I am very happy with the app. I have contacted the developer and made some suggestions, and they have responded quickly and positively. I'd be really interested in hearing what others think of the app. I was excited about it when I heard the podcast. I do have some usable vision so there are times I do turn off voiceover and type, but this can lead to some interesting auto-corrects! Because I don't see well enough to read the screen without magnification and when you use zoom it enlarges the keyboard-- at least that's how it does on my iPad making it impossible to type with magnification on! LOL Anyway, waiting for others to chime in. I suppose I may get it as I do miss the fast paced typing I used to do on my N82.
