EyeNote Silent and unresponsive
Hi, all, I decided to try identifying currency with EyeNote. I downloaded it, and I’ve tried opening it several times. I get nothing with VO, including when I move around the screen or swipe. Do I just have a funny installation, or is there some trick I’m missing here? htH, Teresa Slow down; you'll get there faster. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Iphone and constant rebooting
Hi, no sorry. The only time I've heard of Voice Over acting funny with gestures or the way it does things is when you are charging the phone and either the cable or the wall plug isn't working exactly right. I don't know the technical term for this, but it's almost like the wrong electrical energy being supplied to the phone while charging can interfere with the gestures. Whether it's due to not enough or too much electric power from the faulty cable or charge cube, I don't know. In cases where I've seen this happen, unplugging the phone has fixed it. Probably not what you are talking about, but that's what has happened to me at least. I see it still with my phone and a certain cable and usb wall plug combination, but not with others. -- Raul A. The only way to get my screen back is to do a reset and it’s a pain. I'll wait because it could be software. I'll see what happens when 7.1 comes out. So, if people having the issues have in common that they did an iOS 7.0.4 update over the air, then perhaps a restore using iTunes might help. This is completely a shot in the dark so I have no idea if this might even apply to your situation. It could be also that there have been a bad batch of iPhones with a hardware problem. Let's say that maybe 1000 parts were bad and so 1000 iPhones might have a problem. 1000 is nothing compared to the millions that Apple sells so when you look at the percentage it's very low, yet it makes a huge difference when more than just you have a similar problem. -- Raul A. Re: An IPhone without sim card.
Both the 5 and 5S use the same size SIM card. Use the extraction tool, or a straightened paperclip, to push in to the tiny hole on the right side of the iPhone. Once you get the tool into the hole, you need to push with decent pressure. The SIM drawer will come slightly out. As you remove the tool, the drawer will come out somewhat more. Take the drawer out on the 5 first so you get a feel for it, the amount of pressure you need, and so forth. You will find the drawer feels like an open, long, thin rectangle made of plastic. The SIM card sits on one side of the rectangle. The rectangle will only go in one way. If you attempt to put it in upside down, it will stop going in after a little distance. Practice this with the empty drawer on the 5 so you learn how it feels to put it in correctly, and to put it in upside down. Now, set the 5 SIM drawer to the side. I recommend using a plate or a bowl to put the drawer in so you do not lose it. I do this with screws and pieces when I work on equipment. Next, take the drawer of the 5S out. As you take it out, hold the SIM card to the drawer. If you keep it in place, you will not need to mess with putting it back into place on the drawer in the correct alignment. You can use the 5S drawer in the 5, so bring the drawer with the SIM card on it straight across to the 5 and slide it in. Once in the 5, activate the iPhone. Remove the drawer and SIM from the 5 after the iPhone is fully activated. Place the drawer and SIM back into the 5S. Take the empty drawer out of the place you put it for storing and place it back in the 5. Note: if the SIM separates from the 5S drawer, it only fits one way that will allow the drawer to slide all the way into the phone. When it is in this way, it also fits more flush to the drawer. Re: I phone six
I prefer the height of the 5 vs the 4. It's nice having that extra row of icons. Also even though the 5 and 5s is taller I find that they fit better in my hand. As far as memory goes like others have said it's a matter of preference but I prefer more memory. I have a 64gb phone which only has 12gb of space left. I realize that's still a lot but any smaller phone would not have worked for me. On 1/20/14, Ron Pelletier ron.pellet...@sympatico.ca wrote: Hi Alan, Sure sounds like a beautiful device. Two days ago my wife and I ordered our new iPads. We both got an iPad Air with WI-FI and Cellular and 128 GB. My old netbook has problems of it's own and neither one of us wanted another windows computer. My wife still has her iPhone 4 and says for phone calling it's good enough. It sure was an eye opener when I first touched the air. As it turned out, the young fellow who took care of us at the ATT store has a blind father so this kid knew what would be important to me He even turned voice over on for me to check it out. The screen layout does appear to be a little different then that on my 5s. Of course after you buy a phone or an iPad, then they tell you, you'll be wanting a case to protect that new device. I know how that's played, you get a case for 50 bucks that you could of bought where for 25. The young fellow says ok remember one thing, on your iPhone you can use dictation for your text messages and emails but on your iPad, you may want to do more complex documents and if your using your new iPad Air as a replacement for your netbook, you'll probably want a case with a built-in keyboard. So he had 2 of them to show us. One was made by Belkin. This case has a keyboard built in and of course it works like apple keyboards. The iPad fits into a sleeve sideways which turns your iPad Air into a small laptop complete with QWERTY keyboard. The Belkin case also permits you to adjust by 3 settings the degree of tilt of your screen/iPad. I don't remember who made the second case he showed us but it seemed to be made a bit more rugged then the Belkin and did not permit you to adjust the screen tilt. It also had more keys. There were a hole another row of keys. They appear to be the F keys where as the first model, the Belkin only seemed to have typing keys. The way I've been using my Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard was I did all the actions by touching the screen and the only time I did any typing was when I had opened up a text box. I have no intension of learning all kinds of keyboard commands when I don't need to. Of course my new iPad Air will take 7 to 9 business days to arrive not to mention then having to wait for my wife to drive us over to the ATT store. The kid says you can have it shipped directly to your home but I personally wouldn't do it. Why not I said. Because there have been a rash of stolen products and when yours arrives at your house, you open up the box and find that that's all you've got. An empty box.If you have it shipped to the store, we'll call you when it arrives and if it's an empty box, we'll order another one for you and the store will fight with the post office. Hey, works for me. We'll come and pick it up,. I didn't really look at the sides of the iPad air all that well. As I held the air, it was like holding a huge iPhone with what felt like the up/down volume controls on the right side of the unit instead of the left and there was what felt like another button above that. The button to turn and off the iPad seemed to be on the top right corner. There appeared to be an ear phone jack on the top left and I think I saw the plug for the lightening connector on the bottom along with what I thought was the home key. If anybody who owns an air could give me a better description of the layout of buttons and jacks I certainly will appreciate it. So in a week or so if you hear this big YAHOO! you'll know it's just me because my iPad is in my hands! I have tried holding my iPad at an angle on the bill and I never get a response. If I hold it in line with the bill then it works. It also does not seem to want to read the same bill twice unless I have it read another bill first then go back to the first bill then it will read it. Once again in my experience you have to hold it inline and still with the bill to get it to read. I also have not been able to get tit to read the bill when I hold it in my hand in front of the camera. Has anyone have any luck doing that? Re: Question on folders
hi, You would just click on the aps you put in said folder just like if they were on a home screen. putting aps inside folders is nothing more than orgonization. when you click on a folder VO will announce opening X folder and there are the aps you've put in just double tapthem as usual to open then. Closing the folder you opened just hit the home button and VO will announce closing X folder. There sounds accomponaying opening and closing of folders. So in a week or so if you hear this big YAHOO! you'll know it's just me because my iPad is in my hands! iPad Air Cases
Hi All, The other day my wife and I were in the ATT store ordering our iPad Airs. We were looking at cases too wile we were there. We saw several cases that let you turn your Air into a laptop. The air slides into the top of the case so it looks like the screen of a netbook or laptop. The case then has a QWERTY keyboard which connects via Bluetooth. Sense I'm replacing my netbook computer with the iPad Air, this kind of case seems to be just what I'm looking for. Walmart had such a case for 99 dollars. Does anybody know about these cases or have an iPod Air with such an animal? If so, I'd like to know which one you have and how well you like it. Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me about it. My air is on it's way so I'm in the market for that style of case. how to subscribe to a podcast on iphone
Hi everybody. I have both Downcast and the native iPhone podcast app. I sometimes find myself searching for a podcast which does not come up in the result list but I know it exists. How does one manually enter the info for the feed? And how do you find the feed info for a specific podcast? Thanks so much. One other thing I'm thinking of is that sometimes when you do OTA iOS updates compared to actual iTunes updates it seems to make a difference. -- Raul A. RE: iPad Air Cases
Hi Alan, I have a case like that and I have stopped using it because it is great when you need the keyboard but it really gets in the way when you don't need it. The keyboard is just hanging there, flopping around, and there is no good way to get it out of the way. I have found that it is better to just have a separate keyboard that I can pull out and use when I need it. Now, on the other hand, my mother-in-law has the exact same case that I have and she loves it. I guess it's just a matter of preference. If

I found that if I washed my hands with soap and water first and made sure they were perfectly that the reader didn't give me any grief over it. Also as it was saying place your finger, each time I moved that finger differently. For example, I might se the tip of my finger on one sampling, the flat of the same finger on the next etc. Of the 10 samples it takes, the more different positions of your finger you can give it, the better the scanner works. It took me a few seconds to understand what it wanted but then I remembered in the manual for my windows 7 laptop which also uses a finger print reader, that it made these suggestions and sense the scanner wants to take 10 samples of the same finger, try to vary each sample as much as you can. RE: I phone six
Hi Alan, I am just curious why using Skype on an iPad seems strange to you. People use Skype on all sorts of devices, on computers for one, PC and Mac, after all, when I started using Skype around 2005 there were very few devices which allowed you to use Skype other than a computer. My Mom has an iPad 2 and we use Facetime or Skype all the time with and without video and when my parents are travelling my Mom always brings her iPad which allows her to use whatever WiFi network is available to send emails, call mme with Facetime or use Skype to call regular phones. For somebody older who benefits from the larger screen of an iPad but who doesn't have a laptop to take along I think the iPad is a perfect mobile communications device. VIP Inbox Notification Followup
Thanks for the help pointing me to the VIP Inbox to get notifications about emails from specific contacts. I guess I'm still a bit unclear how these notifications work as compared to text notifications so I have a followup question. I was hoping to be notified when I get a message from my VIP contacts in the same way I am when I receive a text message. But my VIP notifications don't occur until I launch the Mail app. Is there a setting I need to tweak to get notified even when the Mail app isn't running or is what I'm wanting not possible? RE: iPad Air Cases
Hi Allan, I have an iPad 4 and I ordered a Targus case from Amazon. This case comes with a Bluetooth keyboard and you can turn it to make it stand up like what you were talking about. I bought the white case and it was around $35.00 The other Target cases that were different color were higher price. The reason I got this Targus case is the keys on the keyboard are space apart like on a windows keyboard so you can feel the keys. They are not close together like on a laptop that make them hard to feel. It's a nice case that protect your iPad and is not real expensive. Re: email and internet not working with WIFI
In all honesty, the first thing I would try is: turn the iOS device off, wait about 20 seconds, and then turn it on again. This usually clears up the problem you are describing. If that doesn't work, go in and redo your Wi-Fi settings. Newsify not hiding read items
Hi all, I'm still trying to use Newsify. Someone said that it will auto-hide read items, so anything I read will not alpear as I browse articles. This is not pvuving to be the case, however. I'm seeing the same items appearing over and over, and the only way to not see them is to mark them all as read, then view only unread items. The problem is that I have folders of feeds, and I want to browse by those folders not by all unread. So, how do I get Newsify to only show unread items in folders? Thanks. Re: 5-0 radio pro randomly stopping
Heyya there Jed. I no longer use 50 Radio for this reason. They've started putting ads in that play every now again interrupt the feed. The ad usualy has some sort of button in it that either has to be clicked to buy what they're selling or a button which you can click to basically say no thanks... Some of these ads have no button which voiceover is able to read. So, there you are, you're stuck not able to continue your feed or do anything else for that matter. I've switched to Scanner Radio Delux which is free in the ap store has most of the same feeds which 50 has in it. Hope this helps. - Original Message - From: Jed Barton j...@jedbarton.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2014 17:03 Subject: 5-0 radio pro randomly stopping Hey guys, I am wondering, does anyone on here use 5-0 radio pro? Re: t-mobile, anyone?
Hi, How is the coverage? I was recently talking to someone about getting an air card for my mac with t-mobile. He explained that the coverage was not good in some areas, and in other areas, it was down right inconsistent. So, if you were at one end of a building, you might be able to use your phone just fine. RE: VIP Inbox Notification Followup
Hi Alan, Unless you have set up your mail account to check manually or at certain time intervals, notifications should come regardless as to whether the mail app is running or not. Go to Settings, Mail, Contacts and Calendar and make sure you have set up your mail account to fetch mail with Push. This will use a bit more battery, but I don't think it's all that bad, I have 3 accounts set up with Push and when I once set them to fetch mail only once every hour I didn't notice much of a difference as far as battery was concerned. RE: Try Again
Hi Tracy, I had the same problem in the beginning, it worked well for a while and then not so much. I realized that using the tip of whatever finger you are using was my problem. Once I used the area a bit further down from the tip, sort of between the tip of the finger and the first joint, things improved a lot. Certainly it seems that turning on Reduce Motion improves fingerprint scanning as well. This was once again mentioned as well in the most recent Today in iOS podcast where a caller said that after turning it on fingerprint recognition was much improved. Anyhow, you did already say you turned it on. I use my right thumb almost always so I scanned it onto 3 of the 5 available positions, i.e. I did all the scans for fingerprint 1, then I set up fingerprint 2 also with my thumb and also fingerprint 3. I used 4 and 5 for another finger, but the more you scan it the better it will work. Ever since I use more of the pad of my thumb below the very tip and did multiple scans of the same finger it's been consistently working extremely well. Certainly it won't hurt to also occasionally clean the sapphire crystal which covers the home button, if you have a micro fibre cloth like the ones they sell together with cleaning fluid for LCD screens I would recommend it, but you can also just use a paper towel or tissue, the sapphire crystal is extremely hard and you don't have to worry about scratching the surface. I have recreated prints a few times, with positive results for a handful of days. Right now, I'm using my left thumb my right middle finger. Should I use something to clean my home button? Is the finger print soft wear in it's infancy, therefore still needs improvement? Lol, any words of wisdom are welcome here. Scot, you bring up a good point and I had wondered about that. It doesn't seem like it's that hard to remove the iPad Air from the case, but then what do you do with the case. Syncing with Mophie Juice Pack Cases was RE: Mophie case
I'm a bit confused about what appears to be contradictory information from the Mophie product description and what I've read on this list. The differences could be due to feature differences among the various Mophie juice Pack models. I thought I had read in the product description that if you wanted to sync your phone to your computer using iTunes when its in the Mophie case, this had to be done wirelessly. If you sync your phone using the phone cable as I do, I thought you had to remove the Mophie case in order to access the connector port in order to do a wired connection to the computer. Can someone please clarify this and it would be helpful to know which Mophie model you're discussing since they have at least three? Thanks. Re: t-mobile, anyone?
Fred, All carriers have areas in the country they cover well and other places where coverage is disappointing. The coverage area of T-Mobile is vast, but not as expansive as ATT or Verizon. T-Mobile on the iPhone is a different matter. The company is adding upgrades to its cell towers to better support the device. With an initial upgrade, T-Mobile has speeds of HSPA+ service or several megabyte’s a second download speeds. Those areas that have yet to be upgraded have EDGE service, which is just several times faster than the old dial-up modem connections. I believe all or nearly all cell towers have been upgraded to HSPA+. Check with T-Mobile to learn the status of towers in your area. Recently, much of T-Mobile’s network was upgraded to LTE with download speeds of 10 to 20 MBPS or more. I understand more than 200 million people are now reached by T-Mobile LTE. Check with the company to learn about the kind of service available in your area. I live in Chicago and we had LTE last summer. The speeds are faster than on my home Internet connection. I have a $30 a month offering that provides unlimited data. I am able to select an NLS talking book as I leave for lunch in downtown Chicago and it is downloaded and ready for listening after my meal. Denise raises an issue specific to T-Mobile in comparing the four big national carriers. It is the only one with frequencies primarily at the higher end of the wireless spectrum. In general, the higher frequencies travel shorter distances and penetrate buildings, walls, ceilings, floors, and other obstructions rather poorly. The hassle that Denise described is one of the reasons why people demand to pay less for T-Mobile service compared to other carriers are. All of this being said, I would like to mention that I used T-Mobile with my iPhone 5 at the DFW airport to locate my gate and an airport restaurant with the Seeing Eye GPS app. I also made a phone call from the airport restaurant. The company recently bought lower frequency spectrum from Verizon in major metro areas. Depending on where you live, this could be of benefit to you. Kelly On 1/21/14, denise avant denise.av...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, How is the coverage? I was recently talking to someone about getting an air card for my mac with t-mobile. He explained that the coverage was not good in some areas, and in other areas, it was down right inconsistent. So, if you were at one end of a building, you might be able to use your phone just fine. But if you went to the other end of the hall, then you might not be as fortunate. Re: Mophie Juice Pack and synching with itunes
This is by design, I think it’s because of the restrictions of the lightning connector. AP Mobile and iPhone 5S
Hi all, When I was using my iPhone 4S, I had this app and loved the fact that it alerted me when major breaking news happened. Now that I have upgraded to a 5S, I no longer get the audible alerts, in spite of the fact that all of my notification settings are the same. I still have my 4S and use it as a WiFi player. To this day, it still gets the AP Mobile alerts just fine. Both phones are running the latest version of IOS 7. Is there something about the 5S that prevents AP Mobile from working on it? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but that doesn't help. I would also be interested to know if anyone is using a different breaking news app with any success. I downloaded Breaking News and find it confusing. Thanks for all your help. Suzanne -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: VIP Inbox Notification Followup
Hi Alan, Was your phone locked or unlocked when you tested it? I assume you will have to go to Settings, Notification Center, Mail, then select the VIP account and make sure you have selected to include it in Notification Center and also that it shows alerts on the lock screen. You may also have to enable Voiceover to speak notifications on the lock screen in Voiceover settings, but I'm not sure if that is necessary or not. RE: iCloud password
Hi Donald, Typically your iCloud credentials would be your Apple ID and password. You should also be prepared for your iPhone 4 to be a bit slower and slightly less responsive with iOS 7.0.4 than it was with iOS 6. However, the good news is that iOS 7.1 has been out as a Beta for developers since November 18 and they are currently on Beta 3. I read on several sites that the performance of the iPhone 4 is significantly improved and iOS 7.1 when it becomes publically available should make your iPhone 4 more or less behave as it did with iOS 6. The bad news is that apparently Apple is going to test iOS 7.1 for a while longer and release more Beta updates to developers since the new iOS in the Car feature will be part of it and I think it needs some more work. This feature will allow iOS 7.1 devices to interface much better with all sorts of in-car systems such as Ford Sync and the various other systems car makers nowadays put in their vehicles. When I first heard that the public release of iOS 7.1 was not until March whereas in the past it usually has been January for the dot 1 release, I thought this must be wrong, but it does appear that it is indeed so. Sleep Rhythms
Well Gang; No naps today -- none at all. Took Holland for a walk -- hmmm, more like Holland took me for a walk -- to the neighborhood saloon because they have a weekly drawing for a pot of money that has built up to in excess of $950. So, we got there around 6:45, I had 3 beers (left about a fourth of the last one) and got home at a little after 9:00. I took care of a few chores and read some e-mail; tried calling Bex but she didn't answer. So, I went to bed close to 11:00 and fell asleep within a few minutes. AND THEN WOKE UP AT 12:30 WIDE AWAKE AND UNABLE TO FALL BACK TO SLEEP -- DAMN IT ALL ANY WAYS! Thing is, had I went to sleep at 9:00 I would likely have still waken up at 12:30 -- SHISH! Holland's Boy, Bill - To jealousy, nothing is more frightful than laughter. - Françoise Sagan, French Novelist, screen Writer Dramatist, 1935-2004 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group.
