Mary, I have an iPad 2. Apple shorten the delay when lifting your finger in iOS 6, so turning VO off does give you the fastest possible speed for typing; however, iOS 6 with the reduced delay really makes it a pleasure to use. Btw, when VO is off and you are typing you still hear the clicks.
