RE: Message found under spotlight but now?
You first have to locate Messages on one of your home screens and then move it back to where you want. I just the other day posted very precise instructions on how to move apps, maybe you can check the archives or somebody can do it for you; it's been too long of a day for me to do it tonight. Moving apps really is super easy. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Duane Steele Sent: Monday, August 2, 2021 4:10 PM To: IPhone List Subject: Message found under spotlight but now? Re: No text field in spotlight search. In Ios 11
Dave, have you tried using the braille screen input keyboard to look up apps? It works just like the handwriting but uses braille instead. On your home screen switch your rotor to the braille screen input keyboard. Now just start typing in the name of the app you are looking for. I normally only type 2 or 3 letters. Holding your phone in away mode, mute switch at top, screen facing away, just flick up with one finger to move from app to app. To activate the app your on, swipe 2 fingers from left to right, again, phone in away mode. The braille screen will then go away and the app will load. Hope this helps! RE: No text field in spotlight search. In Ios 11
Hi David, As long as you know the alphabet usually all that is required for you is to draw one or two letters to narrow it down. I could see how it might take some practice, but I would give it a try. Maybe it’s easy for me to say because I had full sight until I was almost 17 so writing of course is not a big deal. Of course there is also SIRI and as long as you know the name of the app you want telling SIRI to open it I also find quite easy and typically faster than bringing up spotlight search, starting to type and then finding what I want. Re: No text field in spotlight search. In Ios 11
Hmmm, guess I should have explained this better. The search field shows up occasionally. However, when I wrote the message I did, when I would do the 3-finger swipe down, all voiceover would say is, siri app suggestions, heading. No matter which way I tried to move and scroll pages, I could not get that search box to show up. Unfortunately, sometimes that search box shows up, sometimes it doesn’t. Re: Spotlight search not always giving results
Yes, Siri does work for finding and opening any app. However, I'm often in a setting where Cannot use Siri and would rather enter the name of the app in spotlight search using my braille display. My issue is that this method sometimes works, but other times it yields no results. I've not had any issues with Spotlight search, but I don't have nearly that many apps. Have you cleared out the app switcher? Does Siri work for finding your apps? Re: Spotlight search not always giving results
I know I'm not answering your question, but on the off chance this will help, you can use handwriting mode to find an app on one of your home pages or in one of your folders. Just switch the roter to handwriting mode and then start spelling the app you're looking for. It should come up in the list you can move through with two finger flicks down. It won't tell you what folder the app is in though. BTW, I haven't noticed this change in spotlight search, but I haven't sued it much lately. Spotlight
I just discovered this the other day. Maybe I am the only one who didn't know about it. If you are on your home screen, you can 3-finger swipe right. It brings up all sorts of interesting stuff. The last few people you called/messaged, local stores, restaurants, bars, etc., several news headlines. I haven't seen anyone talk about this, so it was a neat discovery. Maybe there is something I did to populate this screen and a way to add even more information? Eric -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. RE: The loving Spotlight
The two versions of Spotlight search on my 6S are indeed slightly different. If I swipe left to right from the home screen I get the search field, a few of my contacts I recently phoned or texted with as well as a couple of app suggestions, one of them is my Radio Thermostat app which I typically use first thing in the morning. If I touch an app on the home screen and swipe down with 3 fingers I get the search box and the SIRI app suggestions, but not the contacts. Hi Connie, If you do the gesture with 3 fingers and you get Voiceover to say something like " app 1 of 1 center of screen" then your gesture is registering as a 3-finger single tap which announces the position of the app you are on, what it actually announces is something like this (in my example I am doing a 3-finger tap on the music appwhich happens to be on the third row of apps on my home screen and in second position from the left): Row 3, column 2, page 1 of 4, centre of screen, double tap to open If you are running a version of iOS 9, you can bring up spotlight search by either first touching any app on any home screen (excluding apps in the dock) and then swiping down with 3 fingers. You can also get to Spotlight search from your first home screen by swiping left to right with 3 fingers. Think of Spotlight search as page 0 or as a page to the left of your first home screen. If you are still on iOS 8 or earlier, you can only use the first method, i.e. touch an app on any home screen and swipe down with 3 fingers. Re: The loving Spotlight
I'm not sure about all devices, but it does work on my iPhone 4s, and as I see in the thread below, it works on others as well. Make sure you're following the instructions in the attached messages, namely make sure you're on the home page and then do a three finger swipe down or a three finger swipe right. It's not a swipe down and right, but either a swipe down or alternatively a swipe right, and it's with three fingers. Interesting new keyboard shortcut for spotlight search
Hi all, I have not followed all the ios 9 threads so maybe this has already been mentioned but there's a change ing keybord shortcuts. Factory Reset, Was Re: Keyboard Repeats in Spotlight Search
It hasn't happened to me at all until recently with my iPod 5G. It used to happen with all text fields on my iPod 4G. As fr resetting, you can choose to reset whatever you want to. There's a list of several things to choose when you open that dialog. However, if you do the full reset you might have more of a chance of eradicating the problem. The factory reset restores your device to the way it was when it came out of the box: no user-added settings or apps at all. If you have a backup either with iTunes or iCloud (or both) then yu could choose in the setup process to restore from the backup. I personally would try that, since you would get your data and folders back, and see if the problem gets fixed anyway. Just after your reset, try triple-click-home and see if VO switches on, or ask Siri to turn it on for you. If you don't restore from a backup, you could always add apps from the purchases section of the app store, which lists all of your purchased apps. Then you could download a few at a time and monitor any changes. In my case, I've only been experiencing it in the spotlight search iPod. RE: Keyboard Repeats in Spotlight Search
Hello Haya, If you want to do a complete factory reset you have 2 choices: 1. After the reset you can choose to set up your device as a new device. If you do this you will have to redo everything, redownload your apps, setup any mail accounts you have, sign in to any apps you have and there is a possibility that you may loose data inside apps unless said apps back up to iCloud or their own cloud. You will also have to resync any media such as music, tones etc. 2. Do the reset and select to restore from a backup instead of setting up as a new device. This of course means that you have to backup first. I don't know if you backup using iTunes or iCloud or both. However, if you are OK to use iTunes which for some reason some people avoid like the plague, I highly recommend that you do an encrypted backup with iTunes and then restore from iTunes by going to your device and tab until you get to Restore and then activate it. It's near where you also go to check the checkbox to do an encrypted backup. Your encrypted backup will backup all configurations and passwords as well as text messages, voice mails etc. You will loose text messages by the way if you reset your device and set it up as a new device. Apps are never actually backed up, but if you sync apps with iTunes and all your apps are therefore backed up on your computer, they will resync with your device after the restore is complete and all your folders and home screen layouts will be preserved. Hi Haya, Before going through the recovery, first try something as simple as unloading all apps from app switcher then fully powering down your iDevice then restarting it. If you continue to experience the same behavior, you can then move on to more aggressive troubleshooting. Keyboard Repeats in Spotlight Search
Hi, all, I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem, which acts like a bug to me. When using my Braille display or even occasionally my bluetooth keyboard, if I go to the search iPod field and type something, I get endless repetitions of a random key, and I have to reload Voiceover. This doesn't happen with the onscreen keyboard. Does anyone else notice this? Thanks, Teresa We're made of star stuff.--Carl Sagan -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: Keyboard Repeats in Spotlight Search
Yes. This happened to me today while typing a text message with my Braille display. I posted about this a week or two ago and someone said it had something to do with battery life, but both my phone and my Pronto notetaker were fully charged at the time. The first time this occurred was before the last update. spotlight on iPad
Has anyone been having problems with their bluetooth keyboard while typing in the search field of spotlight search? When I type in there the keys I type are duplicated. This only happens in spotlight search and only on my iPad. I can open spotlight search on my iPhone 5s and not have a problem at all. Configuring Spotlight Search
Hi, I'm attempting to stop my iPhone 4S from indexing on iOS 7. Unfortunately, when I go to Spotlight Search, I can't seem to find a way to check and uncheck the specific features I want indexed. I only get something like Music or Contacts followed by the drag and drop component. Tapping on the specific function gets me nothing. Can someone help? RE: Accessing Spotlight Search in iOS 7, was: Lost Messages App
Hi Ed, Spotlight search goes far beyond just finding an app. In fact, in iOS 7 using handwriting is much easier and faster when it comes to finding apps. Spotlight search is configurable in Settings, General, it's just underneath SIRI. Here you can specify which items Spotlight search should find and they include things like apps, contacts, audio books, podcasts, music, mail, messages, voice memos, reminders, notes etc. Once you access Spotlight search and start typing something it will pull up everything in the areas you specify, e.g. you could type sky and it would pull up any contacts with that letter combination in their first or last name, it would pull up Skype and Skydrive under apps if you had those installed, it would pull up any songs with the word Sky in the title and any message and emails. It's a little bit like the Windows start menu search, but it also has options to search the Web or Wikipedia for whatever word or phrase you type. Re: Accessing Spotlight Search in iOS 7, was: Lost Messages App
Just as a quick additional note, If you are using VoiceOver, you can also simply touch an icon on any home screen to move VO's focus there, and then do a three-finger flick down. This will also bring up the search dialogue. Hope this helps and happy new year!!! Smiles, Cara :) On Jan 1, 2014, at 7:45 PM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hi Andy, In order to get to Spotlight search in iOS 7 you simply double tap and hold on any app or folder and as soon as you hear the triple tone you flick down. This is the same double tap and hold you do in order to move apps, but instead of waiting until you hear Voiceover say “Moving” followed by the name of whatever app you are on, you flick down immediately after the triple tone. This is a very easy and cool way to get to Spotlight search because you can do it from any home screen. You do, however, have to be on a home screen, it does not work if you are inside a folder or if focus is on an app that is in your dock. If you want to get out of Spotlight search you can either press the home key, do the scrub/back gesture or double tap on the area of the screen where Voiceover says “Dismiss Search”. That is the entire upper/middle part of the screen, only on the lower part you have the virtual keyboard and above that the search field. RE: Spotlight Search Gone?
Hi Victor, In addition to Anita's instruction to get to Spotlight Search with a 3-finger swipe down from any app on any home screen, you can also perform the pass-through gesture (a double tap and hold with one finger) and then flick down immediately after you hear the triple tone the double tap and hold generates. Just make sure you do this very quickly, if you double tap and hold too long before flicking down you enter moving apps mode. Spotlight search question
Hi All, I've noticed that when searching the iPhone, whatever you initially type, the phone finds matches. I know this is how it works but my question is regarding text messages. After I delete an entire text message/conversation, when I type in a persons name, part of a message is read, but when I tap on it, I'm taken to my screen of texts, but the message that was being read is not there. Why is this? And is there a way to have this not happen? Thanks. Sent from my iPhone -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Spotlight search after using siri
Wonder if anyone can reproduce this problem. After using siri, I launched the spotlight search. I was not able to enter any test into the search field. The field is in editing mode. RE: Spotlight search after using siri
Hello Alvin, On my 4S with iOS 6 this is also the case. If I type something it does not get written into the search box, however, if I tap Dictate whatever I say is properly inserted. I guess it's something to report for sure since maybe this could crop up in other apps, but if this is the only place where it happens I'd call it a minor possible slightly annoying bug.
