Joe,
I would hope that the enhanced 75-bit message structure will allow for the
Tx3 and Tx4 messages to contain all of the 0-9 and A-Z characters. This would
allow FT8 to be used in a number of other operating events & contests such as
State QSO parties and Field Day exercises.

About a year ago a VHF contest mode was discussed and the NA VHF contest

As for FT8 for contest, you got it right. What you describe will do for Reg

that will cover the mot prolific use of complex callsigns, The Italians have

But what I wanted to know is what that amount actually is, in practice,

Hi Joe,
Sorry, I missed your original message.
I've just taken a look at a list of stations that were active in the 2017
June 50MHz IARU Region 1 Contest. There were at least 30 stations with this
format of call sign. Over 3000 stations were active in this contest.

I Europe you can easily drive thru 5 countries in a day, And if you are in the
Balkans area you can
do it in half a day.
For VHF its very common for high ground suitable for contest operation to be
just over the border.

Hi Joe,
I think there is need to handle compound callsigns such as ZA/PA9XYX, these
call signs are common in Region 1.
Also, there is a need in Region 1 VHF+ contests to exchange 6 character
locators (e.g. IO91OJ) rather than just 4 character locators. Is this
possible?

One additional question I should have asked.
If you think FT8 might get appreciable use in Region 1 VHF+ contests,
would there be significant need for handling compound callsigns such as
ZA/PA9XYZ, etc.?
