[Zope-Annce] Zwiki 0.57 released
Good day all! Zwiki 0.57 has been released. If you feel like it's been a while since last announcement, you're right. I have been in an intense phase of travelling, work hunting, adapting to a new job, and could not avoid the hiatus, for which I apologise. To be precise, in september, 0.56 was released but not announced on zope-announce; in august, 0.55 was released but not announced on zope-announce or zwiki.org; and in july, there was no release. Ack! Thus ends my four-year run of monthly releases. If you're interested in helping out with release management, or have ideas for simplifying Zwiki processes, get in touch. Thanks for your support. Peace, -Simon Summary --- Style and help cleanups, bugfixes. Upgrade notes - If you use the http://zwiki.org/HowToMakeContentsExpandable , you'll need to update it to work with the new expandable css class. Changes --- Configuring ... * reorganize stylesheet * add missing mathaction styles * rename aqtree3clickable css class to expandable Browsing * subtopics, page context, wiki contents styling fixes * make help page a built-in view like recentchanges etc. * help updates * make rss feeds and creationTime()/lastEditTime() more robust, eg when creation_time property is blank General ... * fix backwards compatibility for old page objects more detail at http://zwiki.org/ReleaseNotes. [Zope-dev] I Like ZClasses as a separate product, I like Democracy Better
I do like the idea of ZClasses as a separate product. Actually I think all of Zope should be an assembly of separate products. I would love to see multiple flavors of Zope each as an assembly of separate products. If we make ZClasses a separate product, does that mean we can get our own mailing list for ZClasses. Maybe a separate web site, wiki, etc? Maybe the 4 or 5 companies who care about ZClasses can get together and fund the upgrade. I am still not sure if the next version of my application will be in Zope 3 or not, but if it is, I see it as a completely separate code base. Accordingly, this rapid evolution of Zope, to make it compatible with Zope 3 drives a lot of us nuts. We would prefer to just see a stable Zope 2, and an incompatible Zope 3. But I get no say in the matter. Open source is good, democratic source would be better. I am not trying to upset people with this email message. I just want to present a different point of view. [Zope] Re: which operating system quandry
David Bear [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: 1) Freebsd ports collection is an easy way to install zope -- the ports maintainer takes care of making the build files to handle all the zope dependencies including python versions, libraries, etc. However, Actually I must say that I tried the Zope 2.8 Port a while ago and this was incorrectly trying to use the wrong Python Version 2.4.x. I mailed the maintainer and he wrote that he would fix it. Looking at http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=zopestype=all I can see that the Zope 2.8.8 Port still references to Python 2.4 - so it got updated but it is still using the *wrong* Python version. :( And I would not dare to update my Zope using the FreeBSD Port System, since I had some bad experiences with this regarding other Applications. But that strongly depends on the quality of the Port itself. 2) I've run zope on Red Hat and Suse linux. In both cases I found that I needed to install a different version of python than the one packaged with the distro becuase Zope had specific dependencies for new versions python. Applying patches to zope is manual. It has always been Quite funny, because RedHat and Suse do exactly the same as I have noticed with FreeBSD. So how come, that you had a different experience. Which Zope and Python Versions did you install? Zope Packages in Debian and Ubuntu do work nicely although I would also recommend to at least install Zope from source. inconvenient to build python and PIL in a separate run instances for zope. This seems like a major pain in the ... However this approach gives you more flexibility, since you can update Python and Zope at the moment that *you* want to and you can ensure that Security Updates do not break something in your Zope instance (which however has never happened to me, but you never know...). 4) I am very interested to know how others manage zope sites. Are there any best practices? Are there any linux distributions that are more kind to zope than others -- meaning they don't have dependencies on old python versions, or they have a very good patch system (debian apt updates for zope??) Debian and Ubuntu, as I mentioned before, play quite well with Zope. Much better than FreeBSD from my experience, but as always ymmv. ;) Regards Maik ___ Zope maillist - Zope@zope.org http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

In my external method I have something like this: ... sys.path.insert(0, CCPNPYTHON) from memops.general.Io import loadXmlProjectFile ... the problem I am facing now it that if I update my memops stuff (which is found in CCPNPYTHON path) it seems not to be being updated in Zope, because Zope is still using the old version. (If I run outside Zope, the code works). I have encountered this problem before, and the quick-fix was to restart Zope (from the ZMI - Control Panel). hth Jonathan ___ Zope maillist - Zope@zope.org http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Re: [Zope] Unsubscription problems.
Hello, I have tried to unsubscribe from this list via messages to zope@zope.org, [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the mailman site but a still receiving mail. Reading helps. Why don't you follow the instructions on the mailman pages like http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev? Sorry? I did, hence and the mailman page in my original message, as above. I must do this at the zope-dev list to unsubscribe to zope? That is unintuitive to say the least. What it did was go to the zope mailman page: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope Verified via recent message what address the mail was going to and entered taht in To unsubscribe from Zope, get a password reminder, or change your subscription options enter your subscription email address: and clicked Unsubscribe or edit options. This generated me an unsubscription message and I read its instructions to send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with only the confirmation string. I confess I left the subject in place but that didn't seem to be a problem on several other mailman-managed lists I have recently unsubscribed from. Failing that, I have followed your instructions to go to the zope-dev list page but it will not seem to generate me an unsubscription confirmation message, perhaps because I am not, and believe have never been subscribed to it. I have again gone through the steps at http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope; without a subject in the reply message and will see what comes of it. Having followed these same instructions on other mailman pages with acceptable results, what exactly is it I didn't read?
