[Zope-dev] new wiki.zope.org editor login
Hey all.. the shared login for wiki.zope.org editing has been discovered by a spammer, so I've changed the password. The login is now zope, edit0r. See the message below for more context. [Zope-dev] zope 3 wiki update
I've made the zope 3 wiki's skin consistent with the other wikis, leaving the pond design for sole use of the foundation site. I also did a little front page cleanup and updated the intro - corrections welcome. Until some cache expires or can be flushed/restarted by Jens, you might see a messed up display caused by the old stylesheet (http://wiki.zope.org/Zope3Wiki/stylesheet). I also like this message because it is simple and positive enough for everyone inside and outside the dev community to understand and buy into. Insiders know that the Toolkit going forward will be much more focussed than old Zope 3 was, but outsiders don't need those details; outsiders certainly won't understand subtle intra-project renamings and dyings. [Zope-dev] ZPublisher timing hooks ?
Hi all, I'd like to print a "this page was rendered in ... milliseconds" as you see on php sites. I think I'd get better accuracy by getting at least the start time from ZPublisher because.. actually it may not help, but I'm thinking about the case where a request generates a redirect and another request. I would say there seem to be social/structural/technical/perceptual reasons why such a thing simply cannot exist at ZC-managed zope.org right now. So, while zope.org would be the ideal url (and I tried to nudge zope.org in this direction for years without coming across as a zealot) I think there are actually some advantages to having a slightly separate docs site. More modular, scales better. Of course the more integration and interlinking the better. Constructively-intended zope.org criticism: zope.org is the zope community's biggest documentation asset. And yet at this point it is indeed also a big fat piano sitting on the windpipe of zope documentation, and hence the zope community itself. This is despite the best of intentions on all sides. To say (as Stephan has) that it's due to lack of volunteers is wrong. Many of us have tried. Perhaps ZC expects more from a volunteer than is realistic. [Zope-dev] Re: Core Dump (Zope 2.7, Python 2.3.3, FreeBSD 4.5)
It does sound suspiciously like the freebsd python issue. What do you get in the event log when python crashes ? Is it SIGSEGV(11)/SIGBUS(10) or whatever ? This tends not to get triggered with a zeo debug prompt, for whatever reason. To find out, you could: - rebuild python with a very large stack - 1Mb *should* be enough - rebuild python with debugging symbols, then run python/zope with gdb and see what the stack trace says when it crashes. - sprinkle the zope code with log statements until you narrow down where the crash is happening. If it's the stack thing, it's probably in a call to the re module. ___ Zope-Dev maillist - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope )

Thanks for a most illuminating thread. Slight clarification to a comment of yours Shane - Shane Hathaway <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > GPL code together. ZWiki is just in a strange position because the > GPL is not actually in effect. I'm not sure I'd use those words - the license is certainly fully "in effect", I'd say, if not exactly "enforced by a battalion of lawyers". One of the consequences being that someone re-distributing zope & zwiki together, under their default licenses, is technically in violation right now, I think we are all agreeing. I'm not aware of anyone doing this right now, though there was a zwiki package for Debian GNU/linux at one point. Would Debian be in violation shipping both zope & zwiki packages on a cd ? If they thought so, sooner or later one or the other would get dropped from the distribution. Unfortunate and detrimental to both zwiki and zope. In principle this would apply to all linux distributions. Does this serve as an example of a problem with the current situation for DC management ? Another would be the fact that DC's own options are limited if it (DC) ever had the desire to distribute or sell something leveraging zwiki. Sure, it could convince me that LGPL makes better sense, or offer me a large sum of money to draw up a special alternate license (hey, on the double :-). But this would have to be repeated with each developer where the situation arose. Probably better to update the ZPL to solve this problem in one sweep, ensure that zope is participating fully within the preeminent sphere of software creativity, and earn a whole bunch of new support from the world developer community. And python did it. And there's no downside to making yourself GPL-compatible that I can think of. > Explain why it's important to you and why you can't get by on the > current situation. Itamar, thanks for your suggestions on this. I never got it working. Frustrated by a period of intense Zope Developer Pain I fell back on.. you've guessed it.. my favorite hammer. For this application I found that a zwiki page containing a CSV table makes a micro-db that's relatively easy to administer & work with (and it's almost editable with MS Excel). I made a support method for doing queries: http://zwiki.org/QueryCsv Question for the list: is this nuts ? I somehow doubt it would pass the ACID test, but zope's transactions help and at least for this app (small data, low load, mostly appending) it seems to have worked well. -Simon ___ Zope-Dev maillist - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope )

This is great, Lalo! Thanks. I checked in ZUnit support to ZWiki-cvs, and the first couple of unit tests. Suddenly, I feel all Extreme! FWIW, here's how I run the tests. I made a TestRunner called ZWikiTests, pointing to "Products.ZWiki.TestSuite". I have these rules in a makefile: unit-test test: @wget -nv 'http://:@localhost:/ZWikiTests/manage_startTests' -O TESTOUTPUT @cat TESTOUTPUT refresh: @wget --spider -nv 'http://:@localhost:/Control_Panel/Products/ZWiki/manage_refresh?performRefresh=1&quickRefresh=1' After making some changes to the product files, I > make refresh test 200 OK 14:03:17 URL:http://:@localhost:/ZWikiTests/manage_startTests [34] -> "TESTOUTPUT" [1] . . . Time: 1.329s OK (3 tests) This rocks. In fact, as I ran the above it caught a typo in ZWiki/Tests.py which otherwise you all would have had to deal with. -Simon ___ Zope-Dev maillist - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope )

this should resolve a problem with the recent release.
