Distance. Work to move the shifter does not change, but if you change the
distance to make shorter, then you have to increase the force. Hope this

you are holding it at the end. All you are doing is changing the fulcrum of
the shifter. It is harder for you to shift, but it still takes the same
amount of force to get the car into gear, cold or not. I hope you see what
I'm talking about. Just my opinion though. I might be totally wrong. >>
