To Mike, although it was an accident that I posted the original mail
onto the -devel list, it wasn't a beneficial mistake as it was
actually more productive than just posting it to the -board. If I
hadn't been tired when posting I would've CCed it to the board, to
ensure that any board members would be involved. Don't mistake our
reluctance to rush in on a new election process without thinking it
through as some sort of power grab. The current active board members
(me, Bruce, and Sander) are still very interested in the project but
we're too busy to contribute *code* to the project. That doesn't mean
we aren't able and willing to discuss issues related to it, it just
means we can't lay down code right now.

The original intent of the provisional board was to act as a decision
making and conflict resolution body for the community and to work
towards setting up a sustainable governance community process which we
can use to keep the gears of the project turning. We have so far not
gotten far towards this second goal, which is why I would recommend
that in lieu of doing a full on replace (where in all likelihood the
current board members would end up back on the board anyway due to
lack of candidates---we are three, plus from what I see maybe 2 or 3
others who would like a seat?), it would make more sense to bring the
new devs into the board and start working out this new permanent
system.

I would tend to agree, but some measure of debate, work, and time is
necessary to end up with a usable and sustainable system.

We can certainly bring Mike in on the board as he seems to be a very
active force in getting things accomplished around here. I will post
an extra email to call for any other board membership requests and we
will vote on them. By vote, I mean we will approve (most likely) as
the board has always been quite benevolent in these matters,
especially with developers who have been around for quite awhile (such
as Mike and others).

Once we've got a solidified board we can begin the debate and drafting
of the necessary proposals to create a good governance/election system
and community process.
