I gotta "second the motion" on Dave C's post. If you're gonna shoot E-6,
find a good local lab.

In the "old days" I know that Kodak lab people assumed that film which
arrived in expedited packaging (FedEx, Express mail, etc.) was assumed
to be from professionals and was given expedited handling, even if it
was in mailers. This ended, apparently, several years ago...

A&I is still very much a professional lab operation. I am very fortunate
that they are near my place of work, so I can deal with them over the
counter. But I've also sent them a ton of film FedEx and it always
returns as a complete package via FedEx or UPS priority.

Another example of A&I's attention to pro concerns: My wife's business
sends them a lot of film containing very technical subject matter. Each
shot on each roll has a lot of technical data to go along with it, so
it's important that the finished film can be matched easily to the
notes. They attach number stickers to each roll when it's turned in for
processing, and the slides are returned in plastic boxes containing
those same numbers on the outside of the box.

Its pretty clear in this day and age that the film companies (Kodak and
Fuji) want to concentrate their processing divisions on the big volume
of the consumer market. Pros are persnickety about their processing and
it only makes sense that the smaller professional labs better serve the
needs of the professional customer.
