I run my Sonnet ATA66 card in slot 5. You should also be able to run a TT video card in one of the lower slots also, Mine ran in slot 3 with a 17" Apple Multiscan. When you change card configurations it helps to hit the CUDA reset button before you restart. Be sure you have the most up to date Acard driver for the Sonnet 66 card. The dealers tale of "smoke" needs more substantiation. PCI Firewire cards work well without causing these issues. Perhaps a bent pin on a Firewire cord caused a priblem? Of course a bad cord would react the same way with any device it is plugged into- if this was the case Rest assured this is not the norm for these cards. S900 memory is cheap, so load it up as much as you can afford to. Macsales(OWC) still has bargans on RAM. If you plan to run a G3 or G4 upgrade use only 60ns RAM, not the slower 70ns that came with the machines. This is especially true if you plan to migrate to OSX in the future. Paul C

Hello all, thanks for your replies.

I actually went out and bought a LaCie Firewire/USB "combo card" but have
yet to install it nor open the package yet. I guess I should of waited for
your responses as I may now have a potential card placement issue which I
was unaware of.

First, any "combo card" such as Firewire/USB will have to run in one of the top two PCI slots. They don't work in the lower 4 slots of the S900.

My Umax S900/200 has a Sonnet Tempo Ultra ATA66 PCI card and the original
IMS Twin Turbo 128M card installed.

In addition, I have a Sonnet 400Mhz G3 card (whether or not it is of
significance in regards to issue).

I found I needed to put my Tempo Ultra card in one of the top two slots,
namely the second. While topmost slot has the Twin Turbo card I can't
recall why it's in that particular spot.

Does anyone know if the Twin Turbo card can be moved to one of the bottom 4
slots?

Second, USB2 doesn't come into play until Jaguar or Panther? It'll act like a USB1.1 card in OS9. I use a generic Firewire PCI card in slot 4 of my S900 and it works well with my Lexar Firewire CF Cardreader. No seperate AC adapter is needed for a cardreader.

No smoking devices? The dealer whom I purchased the firewire card from said he's had a customer who experienced "smoke" when they plugged in a firewire bus powered device and was reluctant to recommend the use of such devices.

Take care,
