Ken, I know for a fact that I have over 42 000 messages in my inbox
alone, and if I reply to only one in ten that suggests I have over
4000 in my "Sent" folder. Whilst I would not dream for one second of
suggesting that you might be barking up the wrong tree, I do not
believe that 2000 messages in a "Sent items" folder can in any way be
viewed as excessive, and if Seamonkey cannot handle such a number
without potential risk of failure then I think we should all start
looking for a better e-mail client.

I don't have anywhere near that number, but I agree in principle that the numbers offered by the OP should not be problematic.

Incidentally, how was she able to identify the fact that she had 2000
messages in her "Sent items" folder ? Right-clicking on mine fails
to disclose any useful statistics whatsoever.

I don't know how she did it, but I just look at the status line in the lower right corner of the screen and I see "Unread: 0 Total: 72369." Of course, that's for the newsgroup, but the same principle applies in mail folders.
