Oh, I thought you was talking about 2000->2009.
AFAIK, No-one thought to start a calendar until some (10's years???)
time after this, so technically there wasn't a year 1,2,3...etc.

I still agree 2001 is the new millenium/century, but 2000 is the new
decade, since decades are usually described as eg 90's, etc.
