Well, if we were consuming the end data that would be entirely correct. But we're aiming to track the source document itself. Proxied connections such as this do pose an interesting situation. What's the original? What should an aggregator "do" with the changing location? I'm well versed in the HTTP transport specs so for me it's more of a rhetorical question. But while we track the source URL an actual reader program on someone's desktop, portal or whatever should indeed be following links onward to the actual content. Where it becomes complicated is where we track the URLs. That the HTML is being prepended on the display is certainly a bug, at least from a 'show me the headlines' sort of perspective. But from a URL monitoring perspective it's actually important to have known and stored that data. For URLs that /permanently/ move it's sort of a no-brainer. Follow to the end URL and redirect the database entry to it. But for temporary redirects (302) it might be more subtle. A temporary redirect could vary for any number of reasons; load balancing, geographic routing, standby servers, etc. It would be incorrect for us to track the end destination URL for a temporary redirect. There'd be no sense in following the links and submitting the new URL as it could well change. For the example in question is might not but that's not what a temporary redirect is supposed to do. We've been hot on the trail of better polling and transport handling. We expect to have some news about it soon. Hopefully with some new RSS feeds to help track feeds with state changes and problems. Meanwhile, thanks go out to John for his helpful way of raising the issue again. We'll try to have fix in place for it soon. The poller is a BEAST of code. That and the gigabytes of data it shuffles through on a daily basis make it very tricky to play around with. We've focused on some performance issues and seen real gains lately.
