Good observations on issues with losing [1] people. You certainly don't want to lose [1] readers by playing around with the feed URL too often.
Be warned, however, when you use a third party service you're at the mercy of their reliability. If their site has any sort of troubles then you readers will be impacted. Granted, if your own site has troubles they're also going to be impacted but at least they still have your URL in their reader. We've seen several services cease operating. When you use a 3rd party URL it may be a real problem getting them to rearrange things should problems develop. You're also at the mercy of whatever reformatting they decide to 'try' to apply. I'll note their use of CDATA wrapping and question it's usefulness. Should you want to start embedding smarter metadata you're stuck. Meanwhile we've been making great strides in improving the poller code. It's running more than twice as fast as before. One thing Jeff discovered is PHP's bz compression functions are, well, brain damaged. Some huge feeds were causing reallocation loops of over a THOUSAND iterations.
