4.3 is the development version - You are most probably using version 4.2 so 4.3 
modules are unlikely to work.

I actual think that the installation and user manuals on the wiki aren't that 
bad but the installation still is difficult for a lot of average computer users 
- it certainly is more difficult than most commercial products . That is even 
more the case when you have to set it up on a network or on Vista.

It is often a case of try try again, however I have personally found OpenERP 
worth the pain and I have helped put in a few installations recommend it to 
anyone. 

On the subject of buying the book - I would say that it is by no means 
essential to buy the book to evaluate the product, it just may take a bit of 
time to get it installed correctly. However, If you decide to work with OpenERP 
then undoubtably the book would be good value (but again not essential).
