I read the datasheet. Neither there you'll find warnings, nor you find
them on the HifiBerry site, nor you find them on IQAudio. 
What you find is a filter graph that looks much better then the other
crappier filters. And that one doesn't work on all sample rates.

If you offer controls as chip manufacturer they  CAN be used.  If you
offer controls as enduser device manufacturer they WILL be used.

I'm not aware of any DAC manufacturer who'd offer a device where certain
user settings end up into malfunction units.


The IQAudio guy realized that much earlier. That's why he limited the
volume control. Who seriously wants clipped audio, even though it's
offered as feature by the manufacturer.


I'm pretty sure nobody really tested all this. That perfectly fits my
picture about the HifiBerry folks.
