Hi Guys,

Just to bring it all back home - WHY - well we are now drifting into app comparisons and which is better than the other at this and that.

The original spirit of this mail to the list - maybe shrouded - but essentially - Has RS got robust Character Animation tools to make a project like "Elephant Dreams" a reality with RS? What is an honest appraisal of the Character Animation / Animation tools in Realsoft? What needs to be added to this tool set to make it highly robust in an Animation Workflow?

Some of the things were hinted at earlier -

"constructor tools like the drag tool not working properly."
"Too many in-between key frames have to be created to prevent slippage and floor penetration"

Maybe I should rephrase the name of the post -

Realsoft Character Animation - Has RS Char anim been outstripped by BLENDER Char anim ..

This is what I meant, I should have been more focused. Its great to see all the other comments though, keep them coming, but a lively debate re Char anim and RS amongst all this would be great too. AND only for one reason - to get our fav 3D app to the point it can produce production time efficient Char Anims with a Robust Char Anim toolset. What is needed, if anything?

Finally I brought up the Messiah thing purely as a stop gap idea - if RS and messiah could talk to each other - their is one solution, no?

Cheers all
Aidan

Who cares about Blender when there is Art Of Illusion made with Java :).

It can do all the usual tricks

Just visited the page (did some experiments with AoI when it was still in its "infancy") & liked what I saw (good renderer, though with Blender you can have scanline rendering, radiosity AND raytracing - the choice is all yours), but it doesn't have a physics engine, no particles, no game capabilities etc. You simply can't compare Blender and AoI for the features alone, sorry.

and it has almost better renderer than RS.

I don't think so, but let others in this group decide if you're right ;-) ....

Indeed what RS needs is a faster renderer and character animation that works.
That's all we need. I don't need no other features, just these two in working
condition.

OK, I see your point, but then Blender is simply not your piece of cake i.e. the right tool for you, but others in this group asked for gaming possibilities etc., so they may see things differently when it comes to comparing tools :-) ....

What I tried to convey is simply that one should be open to different tools, whether commercial or "free" and not diminish the efforts & successes of 3D engine developers or even start quarreling what renderer/3D modeler is "better" - question is always "better FOR WHAT ?"

To each one of us the tools he/she needs & likes & uses without trying to "convert" others, only just hinting at & showing the possibilities & sharing the experiences one has had with the product.
