Came this utterance formulated by Larry Gusaas to my mailbox:

It serves as a support mailing address for total newbies through to
experts that want to ask questions. If you insist that the newbies learn
how to use a mailing list before they can post a question, they will be
less likely to ask their question. It works.

In addition, many of the help questions come via an online forum IIUC.

Those that don't like it and know better do have other alternatives.

a. Unsubscribe themselves and only ask when they have an issue - then
follow the thread via their browser.

b. Use the forum: http://www.oooforum.org/

c. Alternative PC co-support help avenues.

I'm not telling you to get lost if you don't like it. Please just
understand why it is this way. Understand that it is moderated and we
get very little spam through. It actually takes a certain kind of person
to maintain a level of interest in helping others and not getting upset
by the small things around here. I know i myself have over-reacted on
more than one occasion, no canonization here!
