Even better one could analyse the message automagically and suggest 
likely answers as well as giving appropriate posting guidelines. I'm 
still not entirely sure why I got 'shouted down' a few weeks ago when I 
suggested the same.

Whatever others on the list may think, for my own part I consider it a 
thorough waste of good people's time to answer, for example, a 
subjectless message asking (for the umpteenth time) whether OOo runs on 
Vista. Or pointing out - again - that /this/ list is in English. Or 
whatever. I always thought computers were there to handle the boringly 
routine drudgery, leaving people for the bits that require some 
original input.
