You are correct. In fact, many sighted people complain if their GPS starts talking to them while they are walking. They prefer to occasionally glance at the display to confirm they are still heading in the correct direction, and prefer an unobtrusive alert if they go off course while walking. I have had sighted friends ask me to shut that damn thing off whilst we were walking together and talking.
