Guido,

More or less, yes, for my projects, depending on the intended
audience/purpose of the site. But if only that were all we had to do. Have
you considered AOL? Do you know someone with an AOL account on both
platforms? <g>

I don't know how site logs look in .nl but I know over here the largest
source of users at any site logs I've ever seen is always AOL. So... we
also take a look on AOL's native browsers whenever possible. 85% of AOL
users -- possibly as many as 8.5 million people -- use either Win 3.X MSIE
3.0 16bit or Win95 MSIE 3.0 32bit. ( 1% use Mac2.7PPC 68K Intercon 1.2
browser, 7% use Mac 3.0 MSIE 2.0 browser. This is actually slightly less
than the commonly assumed 10% installed user base of MACs vs. PCs).

In fact, for one site, our only browser compatibility goal was to optimize
for AOL's native integrated dummed down 3.0 Win 3.0 browser since we were
running ads on AOL that were viewed only in that environment -- when you
click the banner, it launches the internal browser console. (Since that
browser does not have an address line, you cannot reach the site "manually"
with another browser -- you don't know where you are.)

As for J/S compatibility, evidently, there are Javascript functionality
limitations in AOL's windows browsers and it is not supported at all in the
MAC versions.

I mentioned we look at a site on an AOL browser "whenever possible." It
isn't possible to do so if you have installed MSIE 4.0 on your machine. It
seems AOL Win 95 software is incompatible with IE 4. One has to use a non
AOL browser to surf the net (nothing wrong with that of course, but who
knows how many AOL users realize it?) or uninstall IE 4 (which only a fool
would dare try) or d/l and install the Win 3.0 browser software which
supposedly doesn't conflict with IE 4.0. This problem should be resolved
when AOL releases Ver 4 of their software.
