To summarize, we're saying: to get to Wesnoth 2.0 we need to Refine (not Reinvent) Wesnoth 1.0. Better graphics, cleaner code, clearer GUI, etc. but not significantly altered gameplay. KISS is just as important as ever.

For what it's worth, i agree. But it's going to be trickier to figure out "when it's ready" when what were doing is essentially tweaking and polishing.

Re: "everyone doing their own thing" Maybe i'm confused because I was away from Wesnoth for a year, But it's not clear to me what most of the Dev's roles are. A few have titles on the forum, even that only goes so far. (Jetryl's more than merely an "Art Developer") Maybe people are doing their own thing because when things are thoroughly discussed it's not clear who has the final word, or who's responisble for which part. If these roles have been given, where can they be disovered?

My personal goals are similar to Frame's with the addition of eventually producing a newbie friendly campaign.

Hi all

Been thinking a bit about this lately. Since Dave "retired" I have gotten the feeling that Wesnoth development lacks direction. Everyone (including myself) seems to be wrapped up with doing their own thing without much overall planning/discussion/vision.

If we are to be able to release a new stable version some time in the future I think we need to decide where we are heading, what are the overall goals.

Are KISS still the mantra? or do we want to add more complicated features. What will this do to game stability/code complexity... Do we need more rigorous methods or are commit and break ok..

Many are also looking into some major rewrites of part of the code, this will need to be planned quite well imo, or it might turn into a mess.

Personally I have the following goals:
- Keep improving the gfx while retaining Wesnoths excellent gameplay
- Work on GUI suggestions, since I feel the GUI has the potential to be vastly better than it is now
- General polish. I want Wesnoth to look professional

I would like to hear what other peoples goals are.
