leslie,
Open the case and make sure you actually have a CPU fan first and not just a HUGE heat sink attached to the CPU and a green plastic vent staged between the heat sink and a fan attached to the rear of the case.

I just replaced a CPU fan on a Dimension for someone and it actually connects to the rear of the case, not the heatsink. It's larger than the standard 80MM case fan and has a power connector similar to a sound card connector with the lock clip for connection to the MB. You won't find this type at CompUSA or any mom and pop store as I found. Most likely only from Dell and at top price.........

I ended up getting one with molex connections and disabled the "no CPU" fan message in the bios and all worked just fine.

My 4 year old Dell Dimension comes up with a CPU0 Fan error - I don't hear a fan whirring actually. Where is the best place to get one - eBay?> Is it hard to replace - I'm fairly handy installing hardware.
