If you opt for "1", they give you a plain old cable modem. If you
opt for 2-5, they give you a cable/router/WAP, apparently.
and that is worth $50 a month extra? Not in my book...

What does that actually mean? Aren't all the PCs behind a
firewall, and doesn't each have a unique IP address that is not
ordinarily visible on the Net?
they don't mention extra ip - i know some internet providers offer 5
with the service, others charge for more than 1, some don't give any
extras unless you have a biz account.
Each pc behind the router/firewall usually has a local (192,168.x.x)
ip issued by the router... but depending on the router equipment, they
may have an internet facing ip. Some hotels offer it as an option,
since you may need it for VPN and some services. I don't know if
that's what comcast charges $50/mo more for - they certainly don't
need more ips and can share one to save $50/mo.
