Blue Hills Trail update...

After 1½ inches of light snow fell overnight, selected portions of both the East and WestSideTrails were rolled and a track was set today (Saturday, Feb. 16).  Conditions were fair to good this morning, taking advantage of fresh grooming, sunshine, and temperatures in the low thirties.  Skating was a bit slow, but the improved edge control was a nice change from the icy hardpack underneath.  Despite the frequent warm spells, most trail sections have adequate base, although thin areas and scattered bare spots have become more noticeable (most of the WestSide base varies from 1 to 3 inches).  Because of low snow conditions, sun-exposed downhills and hemlock groves have developed open areas that may require ski removal.  Clouds moved in this afternoon, and conditions should hold up for Sunday.   Rock skis recommended.
