Hi, I finally got to setting up XCSoar and replying some of my flights. >From the first look the application is amazing! Eg. I liked the task editor a lot. I noticed some discussion about improving the task editor even further. That would be cool but I would like to express my wish. I would like the task editor to become unnecessary :-). Let me explain how come.
I almost never create the tasks I fly, I just follow what the competition task setter prepared for us. Even if I do create a task I use desktop computer to analyze weather forecast and actual use of airspace before that. It would feel natural to enter the task to fly using the same desktop computer and just transfer it to the mobile device before flight. And my biggest problem is not actually laziness to enter the tasks on the small screen. For me it's this constant little fear that I made a mistake when entering the task and I will ruin my competition result because of that. I think there is a bad day like that for at least one person on every competition... Do you agree that getting the task into the device electronically, from a reliable source would be a great feature? Of course there is a couple of transfer technologies which would allow this. Http over wifi, files over bluetooth, IR, SD cards come to mind.. And lot more other considerations to make it a standard. The least amount of work and probably early testing/adoption could come from simple XCSoar to XCSoar task sharing. One person could enter the task into the (windows) XCSoar and the rest would simply transfer it from there. Quickly check if it's correct and fly :-). I have a lot more thoughts about this but would like to read some feedback first. How many XCSoar fellow users do you usually meet at a competition? (who PDAs/PNAs with WIF?) Thanks, Tibor P.S.
