So you guys are thinking about the big solution, not something simple
and easy to implement for this summer :-)

I found an instance of task setter actually uploading the tasks in CUP
format to the internet every day (before briefing):
http://www.soaringspot.com/fcc_gliding_2009/

I reached out to one of the competitors and she says that a small
group of pilots actually took advantage of it. I'm sure that
reliability and rules/protests are a considaration. But when done
semi-officially and parallel to the traditionall way everybody should
be happy.

The most important takeaway for me is that the SeeYou CUP format was
used as a the task transfer standard.

So let me try to formulate a couple of feature requests:
1. ability to browse and read tasks from .CUP files.

It should be integrated into the task manager - task browser. The task
browser should go through the whole SD Card, look into all of the .CUP
files and display all of the available tasks.

2. ability to read the tasks through TCP/IP - HTTP

The task browser should have a submenu which would allow user to enter
a url of task repository (the "repository" would be a regular
competition html site). So XCSoar would have to parse the response,
find all URLs/links which end with ".CUP", download them and display
all the task names collected this way. After selection it would then
load the correct task.

Then the task setter could upload the CUP files manually or just setup
some easy to use cloud file syncing like DropBox or SugarSync to make
the CUP files public directly from his desktop SeeYou. I think it's
the native format for SeeYou Competition so there would be really no
additional step beyond saving the task ...

I'll talk to Vladimir Foltin, the CD of Pribinacup and EGC Nitra 2011
to hear his objections to making the CUP files automatically public
like that.

Cheers,
Tibor

P.S.:

To use files from http://www.soaringspot.com/fcc_gliding_2009/
(provided you use SeeYou Mobile):
- download the CUP file from internet to the SD Card using notebook.
- put the card into PDA and launch seeyou mobile
- go to menu-> settings -> files -> waipoints -> select DAY_X.CUP
- go to menu -> task -> tools -> load task -> select class x/day_x

A lot of work!
