Re: White K2000 pics
Sorry, but that kind of rant makes me think your real issue may be located somewhere else than between motif and memory card. The camera is just a tool. If the tool doesn't fit your needs, find another one. For my part, I like Pentax tools. I just happen to be somewhat traditionalist when it comes to colour. Jostein 2008/12/18 John Sessoms jsessoms...@nc.rr.com: From: AlunFoto I still think the look of this particular camera sucks. It's not the look that I find unappealing. A white K10D or K20D wouldn't bother me, although the color of the body wouldn't be a factor either way in a purchase decision. The bottom line for me is does the camera give me the tools I want to take the kind of photographs I want to take. The K2000 does NOT. And making a white version is just lipstick on a pig. From Nikon we get the D3, D3x, and D700 From Canon we get EOS 5D, EOS 50D, ... even the EOS Rebels Both lines with a full range of available lenses, from Ultra-wide zooms through wide, normal, telephoto and super telephoto. Not to mention, both lines still support FILM with cameras and lenses. And what do we get from Pentax? Auto Picture Action, Kids, Pet, Stage Lighting, and Night Snap modes, ... COMING SOON in white with a Dedicated help button. Don't get me started on Pentax lenses. I think Hoya was only interested in the Pentax's medical imaging division, but for public relations purposes had to pay lip service to continuing the Pentax camera division. But the sooner they can drive it into the ground with this kind of crap, the sooner they can close it down and be shut of it. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- http://www.alunfoto.no/galleri/ http://alunfoto.blogspot.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Jostein, I agree with you 100% about tools. That said, a relationship that started (my personal case) 32 years ago may be better uderstood if we avoid the word tool. The moment I needed a different tool, I bought it. The moment I no longer needed the tool, I sold it. Some of the tools came from Canon (FD series, 2 cameras + 4 lenses), some from Nikon, Ricoh, others were rather large (Sinar+Schneiders), some medium sized (first a Pentax 67+ Takumars, later Hasselblad + Zeiss), one is waterproof (Nikon, still with me, tool all the same ). My Pentax gear remains mostly with me - sold some to buy tools, but most remains with me. Guess that would not describe the surviving as tools. I did sell some Pentax gear - maybe those were in the tool range? Printing from Lightroom
Short version: I tried it and I like it. Long version: I'm accustomed to printing from Photoshop, so I don't know why I decided to have a go from Lightroom yesterday, but I did. What's more, I left the image in ProPhoto RGB color space and it came out looking great. In the past I've always has problems printing images in ProPhoto RGB color space from Photoshop and ended up converting them to Adobe RGB or sRGB for printing. I have no idea why this should be: I always turn off color management in the printer driver and turn it on in Photoshop and select the proper paper/ink profile, but I never get good looking prints that way from Photoshop if the original image is ProPhoto RGB. Perhaps the algorithms for re-mapping between color spaces are better in Lightroom because I followed the same procedure and got a great looking print on the first try. The only down side is that I can't use Focus Magic on images in Lightroom - I have to export a PSD or JPEG, apply Focus Magic, re-import into Lightroom and then print. Fortunately the sharpening capabilities of Lightroom are good enough that this will only be an issue for large fine art prints or a few select photos. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: question about Epson printers (R2800, R1900)
Jack, Godfrey, Paul, and Christine: Thank you for sharing information and your opinions! Much appreciated. Christine: I am not sure yet how much I would be printing. I suspect that if I bought a printer I would be printing much more than I've done in the past few years since I switched to digital. However, it probably won't be much enough to make it financially reasonable. Rather, it will be a matter of convenience, so that I can print one-two prints without collecting it for a bulk order from a lab. This might become more important now since I moved to a small town in the middle of Texas, - and I didn't find any reasonable lab in the reasonable vicinity, - so I'll be restricted to mail-order labs. That's why I am still on the fence. It looks like R2880 can be purchased today for $660 minus $150 MIR. (and R1900 is $475 (minus the same $150 MIR), but I am leaning towards R2880, as I like matte finish). I've moved the submit form to the menu on the right at http://www.pdmlpug.org/. There's a list of themes for 2009 and the form for January. I'm not going to mess with January PUG until after the holidays. By then I should have the rest of the submit forms ready and we'll go back to a rigid 21st of the month deadline. The upside is that you'll be able, once again, to submit photos for any month whenever you feel like it. Thanks for putting up with me for the last year. Re: Printing from Lightroom
Hmm. I've not had the same problems you do printing from a ProPhoto RGB image in Photoshop. In my print tests, they are very near to identical on rendering. Lightroom will occasionally show a slight edge on certain images. The ability to create an apply printing templates to any number of photographs makes printing from Lightroom FAR FAR more consistent and efficient than Photoshop for me. I've not printed *anything* from Photoshop for most of this year. Why do you export and then reimport? Why not just use the Lightroom command to Edit in Photoshop ... It renders the PSD or TIFF for you, automatically adds it to the catalog, and opens it in Photoshop for whatever editing you want to do? I haven't found a need for FocusMagic at all, personally. Tried it once or twice and it just didn't seem to do anything I couldn't do more sensibly by focusing correctly on the original capture and with Lightroom or Photoshop's supplied sharpening tools. Godfrey On Dec 19, 2008, at 7:18 AM, Mark Roberts wrote: Short version: I tried it and I like it. The only down side is that I can't use Focus Magic on images in Lightroom - I have to export a PSD or JPEG, apply Focus Magic, re- import into Lightroom and then print. Fortunately the sharpening capabilities of Lightroom are good enough that this will only be an issue for large fine art prints or a few select photos. Marc, If you select Edit in Photoshop and then in PS save your changes the edited file is linked back to Lightroom. Now if you can use Focus Magic while still retaining the .psd format your sharpening edit will also be retained in Lightroom as long as you don't break the link by saving the file as another name. In Lightroom you'll see OrignalFile.img (for example) and OriginalFile- Edit.psd. You can print directly from the later. Lightroom printing is awesome especially using the profiles for your particular printer paper. Re: question about Epson printers (R2800, R1900)
- Original Message - From: Igor Roshchin s...@komkon.org Christine: I am not sure yet how much I would be printing. Well, let me give you a little nudge :-) I think you should get a printer. I should have said this in my earlier post-- that is, having a printer has reinvigorated my connection to photography. Moreover, I once showed some prints to a colleague, and she said that it had been a long time since she had seen photographic prints--she had been mostly enjoying photos through the web. She said it was good to reconnect with the photographic print. Igor, the web is really great, but photographic prints are really, really great! :-). Hope this helps (get you off the fence :-)). Cheers, Christine It looks like R2880 can be purchased today for $660 minus $150 MIR. Happy Hanukah
Well, it's been a crazy day here and I haven't had any time to spend on-list. We're in the middle of a snowstorm and I'm afraid my charges are having trouble biking in the snow with the inevitable delays and unhappy clients: Q Why's my package late? A Look out the window and take a guess... I'm rarely on the computer on the weekend, so I'd like to take this last opportunity before sundown on Sunday to wish everyone a Happy Hanukah. The last time I attempted latkas was a disaster, but we have a new vegan recipe that we're hoping might work... ;-) All the best, frank (who's not Jewish, but loves Jewish food) -- Sharpness is a bourgeois concept. -Henri Cartier-Bresson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
