Hi Carlo,

What I mean is that the Dynatomic 1.0.0 Windows release you gave us gives an
error message when I want to install it: Setup was unable to found
Realsoft3D Version 7.0

I think that is because I run a V7-64 bit version and the Dynatomic is
looking for a 32 bit version of Realsoft3D V7.0.

About the cloth and other simulation software, I agree. Carlo should have
released the software many months ago, or at least hand over the software to

I hope that the new development includes some ones of my old ideas which i
have tried to offer for realsoft (i am not sure that did they have lisened
me i hope that they have).
And those ideas/things are: Polygon faces brush cloning tool (with
reflective cloning) which would also take care of direction of faces for
cloning by measuring mouse movements (i think this should be more like
photoshop's cloning brush tool).

Polygon faces melting brush tool, which would automaticly create polygon
faces to empty spaces between polgyons if user's setup's distance area is
enough (with realtime preview Interactive output).
Polygons' timed extruding, it is a tool which would create new extruding for
polygon when user have moved his brush tool enough (it depends from setups,
it can be 1mm, 1cm, 1m etc...) etc.
Particle animation tools, like brush which would allow move/animate
particles with tablets pen preasure set up's etc..
Node based material editing and particle simulating.
Simulating materials, examples rippels affected by particle collide (like
material which would react to particles collide effect etc...
Two sided face rendering (materials would be nice to get rendered only with
one side if users wants it but also by both sides like realsoft do right now
front, back, and both).

There was something else too, but i cant remember because really.. i have
had so many ideas for 3d that i cant remember even couple of them... I can
send them more if you wanna hear it and if i still remember them after these
years...

these features should have been already in v7:

Cloth simulating, good rigid body simulating, soft bodies, hair simulation,
rag-doll, water, fire, smoke, particle simulating etc... Good particle
rendering (not post effect), good better and faster GI (i mean real GI, not
fake).
Sculpting tools with smear, pull, smoothing etc tools with cloning
capabilitys.. Good uv-tools. Uv-set is nice idea but not good enough.
Better, real subsurface scattering with smooth soft light transulent
effects.
Much much more material presets or channel presets for material creation. I
mean hundres material presets already in material library.. and for creating
materials it would be nice to create materials in easy way like: reflective
blurring, transparent's blurring tool, subsurface scattering blurring with
image based texturing for sss...

Sorry my bad english.. And btw. I love realsoft and i want everything good
to this software but it's lagging too far away from my ideas and needs (what
are necesary to me right now in my life). And i have been with realsoft
since year 1999.

Best regards Juha M.

There is so much potential, with a little bit of effort RS3d could have a
hugely improved simulation tool set: fully functional hairs, cloth, etc.

For example hair. RS3d offers very advanced hair (nurbs curve) rendering.
But this is only useful in static scenes; as far as I know RS3d can't
lattice map the starting points of a set of hair curves to a hand-animated
surface and simulate the hair tails. I can't even animate a face on which I
projected stubbles... let alone long fur.

I have been testing Carlo's plug-ins since the very beginning. Originally
called Realcloth. Developments were progressing rapidly and were promising.
Most bugs were fixed and the software was very intuitive. I just found 3
small animations I've done with Realcloth in March 2003! Suddenly the
project died and the release of Realcloth / Dynatomic got postponed more and
more. It's been 2 years since I received the last beta (July 10th 2008). I
think that the slow development cycle might be related to the level of
activity on the mailing list and in the RS3D community as a whole. It's at
an all time low IMHO. Not sure what went wrong here but it looks like Carlo
nearly gave up on it and he maybe now spends his precious spare time on
other projects. Only Carlo can tell for sure ;-)

I am willing to spend more time on testing, but there has to be a steady
development cycle and a true commitment on Carlo's side for finally
releasing the software. If not you might as well take me off the Dyna beta
team and I will spend my precious time on other projects?

lattice map the starting points of a set of hair curves to a hand-animated
surface and simulate the hair tails.

Robert.

RE: Dynadream lookalike?

2010-08-13 Thread Robert den Broeder

Yes, at a certain point it worked very well, in 2005 I managed to make a
fully functional trebuchet with it, but with later version this didn't work
any more. Arjo made insanely complex rigs with inflatable pigs etc, great
fun!

Please finish this, too much work went into it to drop it! Or maybe sell the
code to RS so they can make it a native part of the software???

Just like I suggested before development for RS3D V6 started. just integrate
it..

I am waiting since the release of RS4.5 for Carlo to release the Dyna

reasons too I am sure.

But, it has also been very quiet on the developers side for that matter L

Sure. Release it, release it... as soon as possible.

I can't wait dynatomic plugins... Realsoft has so poor simulation tools so
it really needs some kind of help from outside and soon.
I guess realsoft will die if it wont get any good simulation tools and
sculpting tools in near future.

Here's a flawed preview of a cave animation I've been working on, a
 biggie
 at 32 MB, HD 1280x720
 http://www.athanor3d.com/pub/testflight17b.avi

At the last moment I decreased the displacement of the rocks in order
 to
speed things up a bit, but forgot to adjust the positions of the
 mushroom
lights, so they float above the rocks here and there. That's a
 disadvantage
of displacement: it doesn't show up in realtime.
Also, some 'black edge' displacement artifacts show up in some frames,
 I
hope they solve that old bug in V7!

I'll wait with the final render until I have my rendering power back,
 it's
been reduced to a third for some weeks now. The AA undersampling
 'cheating'
 shows in the flickering ;)

 Happy rendering!

Hey all,

It's been a while but I haven't forgotten Real! Working with it a lot except
for the last three months but I'm off again!

I'm currently working on a little character animation with a pineapple and a
banana. Tomorrow I'll start animating them.

I did some tests with the banana and it seems lattice mapping it to a nurbs
curve and then animating that curve works best. Any tips?

The textures I made myself from photographs, it required some precise UV
editing to get the banana right! Man this was way more work than I
anticipated. The pineapple too, I photographed a real one from 8 directions,
put that together in a single texture and face-mapped that to an SDS shere
with displacement mapping.

This is going to be a little 'temptation' short animation, we are hopefully
going to seduce a company into a short commercial ;)

Cheers to V7!

OK, if you not want the cylinders hollow, then increase the recursion depth
in the render setting properties. Try a value of 5 or 6. Remember that
increasing the recursion depth increases render times.

dear robert, cylinders are not hollow... ;-) I have done some exercises with
glassy textures (vsl and stand rs original textures). - I have used for this
scene two textures: brushing and glass but I have seen the different when I
have included a sphere behind it... two textures becomes for me dark
reflected (glassy structures) and perhaps it's quite normal...

but glass with glass becomes dark section they crossing each other...
I will make more exercises with glassy textures and objects so I can find
out where is my visual problem of the objects...

sometimes the objects shining nearly invisible sometimes only the back
object lying behind the first object with glassy structures... must laugh...
:-) not so easy to understand...

Hi,
very bad news for all Realsoft 3D Image Contest and Forum users. Today my
provider closed all my websites because they were steadily hacked from
www.3ddart.org . I got daily about 10 mails from the postnuke system that
there were attacks www.3ddart.org but there were no patches for the forum
system (pnphpbb2) which seemed to be the worst concerning security. This is
now the end of the contest site at least postnuke based. I don't know where
to take the time to build up something new atm. When the I got my access
back I'll upload a homepage telling that it's gone. At least I'll install a
new gallery system at the following weekend hopefully.
Sorry ... don't know what to write else. I'm very sad :°(

This is strange. We had similar problems during the beta stage of V6, which

Reported here a month ago that V6 would not install on my new XPSP1 computer
and was giving error messages . I added the XP service pack2 and it did
install .

Now , with a brand new hard drive I tried again to install to XP SP1 and
got the attached error message .

Went to Microsoft's site and D/L'd and installed their 2005 Visual C++
install , and left the RS Visual C++ out of the
V6 install process .

RS installed fine this time , so it appears that the Visual
C++ error message may possibly have some merit after all .

Simply created a rectangular cloth object in DynA- tomic

Delta Knowledge releases advanced plugins for Realsoft 3D v5

Delta Knowledge has released two plugin products for
 Realsoft 3D v5.

Chrono::R3D is a multibody simulation software. It can be
 used for
  multibody analysis, complex collision simulations,
 real-time animation of
vehicles and other simulation tasks of complex mechanisms.

The plugin is available in two versions. The entry level
 Chrono::R3D
Studio plugin costs 150 Euros, and the more extensive
 Chrono::R3D Extreme
edition costs 320 Euros. Both plugins have the same
 simulation features,
but the extreme edition has the ability to save save
 plots and graphs of
  recorded variables.

Delta Knowledge has given the following generous
 introduction offer:
Customers, who purchase the Chrono::R3D plugin before the
 end of May
2007, will get the Extreme edition at the cost of the
 Studio edition! You
can purchase the plugin from the web shop of www.realsoft.com.

Chrono simulation system is also available as a
 standalone middleware
product. Software developers can easily take advantage of
 the advanced
algorithms contained in the CHRONO::ENGINE library. For
 details, please
  visit www.deltaknowledge.com.

The second released plugin is Revolution4D. This plugin
 expands the
modeling features of the Realsoft3D software by integrating the
functionality of the OpenCASCADE geometric kernel. For example,
Revolution4D can load complex 3D models generated by high-end CAD
modelers in STEP or IGES formats. Revolution4D is
 available free of cost
in the Software Updates area of realsoft.com.

Chrono and Revolution4D are first released for the
 Windows platforms.
They require the latest Realsoft 3D v5 SP4.

RE: weird SP3 problem

2006-11-10 Thread Robert den Broeder
Hi Chris,

I've been having a strange problem using SP3 on my home machine (2x dual
Opteron) but not my work machine (2x single Opteron).

When I load larger files, I get an error message saying something like disk
not found and then I have to quit RS and it's really hard to get the error
message off my screen. Sub-optimal.

The disk in question is a 0-stripe raid of 2 sata drives, but I've error
checked them, and also tried copying files from them to another drive and
still had the same problem.

This is using 64-bit windows, by the way. No problems of this sort before
SP3. No problems in other programs.

Thots? Thanks in advance.
Chris Mungenast

Just a thought :-)
Sometimes I get a similar error message, like 'disk not found in drive I'.
This mostly happens when I load other people's projects, or projects saved
on another computer.
The requester is hard to kill and keeps coming back.

The solution I found to be working is to put any CD in 'Drive I' and the
requester is gone.
I suspect Windows to be the cause of this and not RS3D.

Best regards, Robert

RE: Analytical Sphere bug ?

2006-02-12 Thread Robert den Broeder
Hi Garry,

 Hi :

Could someone please verify this bug before I submit it ?

 1) Create an analytical sphere in a Parallel Top or Side View .
 2) Open it's view property window to the 'SPEC' tab .
 3) Note Sphere's symmetrical 'Lengths' (same number 0.259 etc.)
 4) Render to confirm symmetry .
 5) Modify the Sphere's dimension by 'pulling on a sizing handle .
 6) Note the difference in the Sphere's length number now .
 7) Render to confirm lack of symmetry .
 8) No problem , type in lengths to any same number again .
 9) Render to confirm bug .

I followed your steps to the letter and I notice nothing extraordinary.
If I put in the lengths fields 3 identical numbers, I get my sphere back.

So, could you elaborate a little? What is the bug you get?

Best regards,
Robert

Hi Garry,
So anyway , I'm curious what kinds of scales others think
is best when working with RS ? I like using the perspective
mode for composing shots , but scales like 10 Meter X 10
Meter cubes look bizarrely distorted . I use 10% of that scale size .

Forgot to answer this part ;)
I always work in CM scale.

Best regards, Robert

RE: Greeble me this Batman !

2006-02-05 Thread Robert den Broeder
Hi Garry,

Which brings me to another point ... the actual size of
our objects is not in the Object Property Window , anywhere ,
is it (I couldn't find it) . I use a View Grid to approximate
how big my created Cube? actually is . Guess I could use the
Numeric Window to approximate as well .

So anyway , I'm curious what kinds of scales others think
is best when working with RS ? I like using the perspective
mode for composing shots , but scales like 10 Meter X 10
Meter cubes look bizarrely distorted . I use 10% of that scale size .

I usually control the size of objects using the Grids and the Options
window.

Try this:
In the File - Preferences - Options/Metrics tab, set distance to CM.

Then select a grid, say 5 cm x 5 cm (just dragdrop in the view window).
Leave the Grid visible.
Then create an analytical rectangle 7 grid units wide and 6 grid units high.
Then select the analytical rectangle and open the Property window at the
Spec tab.
Note you can read the Width (35) and Height (30) of the rectangle.
And because the units are set to CM in the options window, you know the
values are to be read as CM.
(see attached screenshot)

To double check this, try the following:
In the File - Preferences - Options/Metrics tab, set distance to MM.
Then open Properties again for the rectangle and note that the scale for
Width (350) and Height (300) has changed by a factor 10.

To tripple check it:
In the File - Preferences - Options/Metrics tab, set distance to KM.
Then open Properties again for the rectangle and note that the scale for
Height and Width has changed to probably 0,00 or 0,000.
The latter depending on the number of decimals set in the options window.
If you would have at least 5 decimals you should read Width (0,00035) and
Height (0,00030).

Hope this helps :)

Robert

Onderwerp: New Tutorial online ! (light sensitivity shader)

 Hi List :

 http://www.studiodynamics.net/saved/lightsens1.html

Hope this tutorial on the latest cool shader to make the
news will make life a little sweeter for those that are try-
ing to tweak a Gi scene , by adding a few well placed lights
to carefully adjust the lighting on certain objects only ...

I should mention that it is worded for newbies . Very slow
to write and may be a bit too slow for advanced users to read.

Took around 6 hours to do with Editplus text editor . I
would appreciate it if someone would proof read it for me and
let me know where it may need some refining or clarity .

 Thanks In Advance .

RE: Move over Gary - Aidans turn to rant :) Some of my thoughts on RS ...

2006-02-02 Thread Robert den Broeder
Hi Aidan,

With reference to all of Garys quotes above - by and large I
have to agree with them. The RS Manual - while yes it does a bit of its
job
 - there are many holes and - too short - explanations. ALOT OF ASSUMPTION
and alot of OMISSIONS. I would go so far as to say - at some point - a
rethink of its content with the new user and not so new user in mind
should be a
consideration. Maybe VESA nominates / asks some of the newer
users to go through a chapter each and come back with a list of - WHAT
 WAS THAT, HUH, #^%$£!

I am voluteering to help anyone with this job.
I learned very much about Realsoft3D while proofreading the manual :D

Regards,
Robert

PS: I should visit IRC more often ;)

Onderwerp: Planetary Project Tutorial ... Take 2

 Hi All :

Thanks to some gentle and very effective suggestions by
Robert Den Broeder I've redone the Planetary Project .

  http://www.studiodynamics.net/tutes/planet1.html

Please check it out , as I've added a dozen or so Real-
Soft V5 renders to it , as well as much more detailed step-by
-step procedures for arriving at some very cool results (I think).
Download it , have a look and see what you think .

Man , he is good . I only wish I could inspire others to
create the way Robert does . Not just by the very , very
help- ful tips he offered me privately , but by the calibre
of Real- soft web site he maintains modestly and unselfishly .

That's pure devotion on Roberts part , and it really works .

Thanks again Rob , I only wish I could inspire others to
simply take the time to share the way you so humbly do so well .

This Bud's for you !

RE: Tutorials needed was Re: CHARACTER ANIMATION STUFF and RS ....

2005-12-30 Thread Robert den Broeder
Others take the time
to create really awesome web sites full of tutorials and
links and projects and materials etc like this one
 http://members.ams.chello.nl/rbroeder .

Thanks for the promotion and your kind words Garry! Much appreciated :)
Keep an eye on that site if you're interested in following the developments
of V6 features.

Best regards, Happy new year to all!

Robert

RE: Tutorials needed was Re: CHARACTER ANIMATION STUFF and RS ....

2005-12-30 Thread Robert den Broeder
Hi Garry,

Will stay tuned , but I find it hard to believe RS can move from
V5 to V6 so quickly . Is Satu a coder ? (just kidding)

I never mentioned a quick release of V6. Only that I will show more info on
how V6 develops :)
So you can all see.

I hope to convert a tutorial this weekend using the style-
sheets that are common on your site . Hope you don't mind ,
and it will probably take some heavy duty editing on your
part to make it fit in properly , since I don't understand
 stylesheets .

All tutorials I published so far are plain HTML and the only style I use is
the manual format.
That means same font and same use of titels.

Anyway , it's a chance for me to put your money where your
 mouth is (english expression) .

OK Garry take that chance while you can ;)

Best regards,
Robert
