From what I remember when I replaced a ring and pinion a couple of years ago, once you do your initial setup for backlash and what-not, you then follow a run-in procedure to set the gears. What happens is that the gears heat up and set. So

Did you add GM positraction Additive? Not sure if its necessary with non GM posi
units, but it does quiet down strange noises in GM units. When I had the rear redone,

1969 307, with a SHORT water pump? You don't sound sure. Here is a simple
test, if you can stick your finger between the back of the water pump and
the front of the timing chain cover, it is the LONG water pump

The sheet metal itself is about 18 gauge and solid and the stampings are
pretty close to correct. The floor they sell fits several years so there
is a little trimming involved but I would buy another one from them if
