I don't think I'm going to make it for this one :-(

I have, at last, got all the images I can track down together in one place
(or, at least, the ones I shot on digital, and most of the ones I scanned).
But I still don't have Lightroom installed on my new machine, and I want to
do a bit more organising, duplicate elimination, and renaming before getting
down to looking at actual images (and making a backup copy of the collection).
I don't seem to have any record of what images I actually submitted to PUGs
in the past, either.

I'll try to be a bit better prepared in time for the 25-year anniversary.

I was too busy with my little one." But I looked at it, and discovered
that I did submit a photo... I was probably sleep-walking back then,

so I didn't remember that fact. :-)
I definitely remember many photos from it... But I forgot about
the very fact of that gallery.

If we would get fewer submissions this time, that would mean that PUG (and
PDML?) is "over the hill"...

But take a look now, - If I looked correctly at the server logs,
several more landed after your message (up to 4 or 5 more unless I am
miscalculating time in different time zones).
I am sure we have at least 56, probably more...
(And this is not a joke. I am still in March.)

Anyway, - good luck.

ALL:
Brian is still having his (afternoon) coffee, so, you
still have a chance while he hasn't disabled the submission for

this historic PUG. :-)

Cheers,
Igor

PUGmeisters who have served over the last twenty years, and to Igor and
Komkon for the space.

As you know, web years are tallied differently than real years, and the
long life of the PUG is a genuine rarity in the online world, something
of which we can all be proud of having accomplished. That the PUG has
always been about where we are as photographers in this moment, rather
than a competition or otherwise curated, is even more rare, and should
be noted.

Do you have a target date in mind for publishing the anniversary
edition? I thought I might drop a note to Mike Johnston over at The
Online Photographer to tell him about the anniversary. He might write up
something for his audience, and he might not, but it's worth him knowing.

Thanks again,

Doug

One of the several strange, quirky things about Parc Monceau is that at the
main entrance there is a beautiful little building which is a copy of
Bramante's Tempietto - used as a public toilet. It must be the grandest public
toilet in Europe, second only to the one in Charlton House, near me.

The Tempietto is also to be seen on top of St Paul's, London, and the Pantheon
in Paris (stolen from Saint Paul's, so a copy of a copy).

The entrance to Parc Monceau can be seen in the excellent thriller Ne le dis à
personne (Tell No-one).

The department store you're thinking of is La Samaritaine. I've been to the
rooftop restaurant, which was fabulous. The interior was quite spectacular too.
It has been closed for years, supposedly for refurbishment. It featured,
closed, in the film Holy Motors, the encounter between Denis Lavant and Kylie
Minogue. Great film.

Re: Anyone in Paris?

2017-03-31 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Dan,

That sounds like a fun trip!
I envy you. :-)
We've been to Paris many years ago, and keep planning on coming back.

There are two things that I could recommend:
1. It might be obvious, but ... there is a large department store that has
a very nice view from the top floor, and it is very close to the river, so
the view is great.
The restaurant is rather expensive, but we went there just for a few
minutes when it was not too crowded, took a few photos and left.

Last night I was trying to figure out if it was Printemps or Galleries
Laffayete. I believe it is the former.

2. There was (and still is, from what I can tell) a restaurant that is off
the tourist path. I've learned about it from a personal contact.

I see that now it is rather famous (on Trip Advisor, Yelp, etc.)
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187147-d1116684-Reviews-Marie_Edith-Paris_Ile_de_France.html

Marie Edith restaurant:
Telephone: 01 45 66 44 60
Address: 34 rue Laos
Paris 75015
France

It is a smallish restaurant. So, it's better to make a reservation via
the phone (we called in the morning). It is one of those places where
there is only one "seating" per night.
My rather rudimentary knowledge of French did not allow me understanding
some parts of the menu. They either didn't have an English version, or
what they had was incomplete. So, the owner himself was helping us placing
the order. He is a very interesting person himself. And the food was great
(and reasonably priced) - but it's been a decade ago...

Awesome Igor!

I submitted as well. An old image from a trip to Italy. I've never
shown the image to the pdml group. I didn't know what to submit but
this one seemed to be just right. It was taken in 2010 and I also
like you was able to work with it a little better now than previously.
I have some older images from my *istD somewhere, but I don't know
exactly where anymore. In some backup perhaps.

Have you submitted? -- April PUG - 20th Anniversary (end of March today!)

2017-03-31 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Hi All!

Just in case someone is caught up in the daily errands and forgot, - today
is the last day of March. Even if you did not forget, but just a
procrastinator like myself, - this is your last chance to submit your
photo to this historic PUG.

I suspect, it might become the largest PUG ever (I am sure Brian is ready
for the work ahead of him! ;-) ), but I am sure, there is still space for
your submission. :-)

And just in case, to save you a few minutes, - here is the information
about this PUG: http://pug.komkon.org/general/20th-anniversary.html

and the submission form: http://pug.komkon.org/submit/

I've submitted mine this morning.
I had known what I was going to submit long time ago, but I wanted to find
the "original" from 2006. It was not my best image, but I suspect it
became the most recognizable among friends and their children.

(I've used it on personalized birthday cards.)

I found the .PEF file (from 3 computers and 2 DSLRs ago) that I
re-processed after 11 years, using a more recent tool, and more
importantly, more knowledge of how things work.

Cheers,

Igor

FSF: Pentax K-01 and lenses

2017-03-31 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
For Sale Friday time:

I have a lovely Pentax K-01 "Bumblebee" (yellow with black accents) for sale
with original box and papers. I bought it a couple of years ago as I thought
Marc Newsom's design was very nice and it works very well. But I just don't use
it enough to keep pulling it out every so often to charge up the battery. For
the K-01, I bought the FA43 Limited (pewter finish) and DA21 Limited (black
finish) lenses, my all time favorite Pentax lens pair.

All three are in 'as new' condition and for sale. I'm posting to the PDML
today; tomorrow evening they will become available on Ebay.

Pentax K-01 body, with body cap, box, papers, etc - $230
Pentax FA43mm f/1.9 Limited lens in pewter finish, with caps - $420
Pentax DA21mm f/3.2 Limited lens in black finish, with caps - $250

USPS Priority Mail shipping in the continental USA included for PDML buyers.
Outside the USA, ask for a quote.

thanks!

Looks almost right. The movie car didn't have the louver applique on the
