[Elphel-support] Focus Helper
How 'focus helper' works? The link to the 'focus helper' is http://my-cam/focus.html After the DCT transform of a 8x8 block the 64 frequency coefficients are aquired. Each coefficient is squared and multiplied by the value from the table of weights (it can be set) and a single value for a block is the result. For better focus the lower frequencies go with greater weights (more attention to details). Then the sum of the squared (one more time) values of all the blocks in the focus area is taken and it is the length of Green Horizontal Line. So, by setting the table of weights the higher/lower frequencies can be filtered. Re: [Elphel-support] hard drive/Disk Recorder issues
Tom, The only case when your laptop ( ubuntu 10.04?) can lose wired connection is when there's no link - the amber led should go off/on and that should cause the camera to reboot. And the camera won't reboot, right? Please, try the following: 1) Check how the amber led behaves when the pc loses its ip address. 2a) Disable wi-fi - in case your OS can't handle 2 networks at the same time. or 2b) Make it so the pc won't lose its ip address when something is plugged/unplugged - it's not trivial (if not impossible) in (k)ubuntu's network manager =) or 2c) Change the camera's IP to 10.0.0.xxx (192.168.0.9 - System Preferences) and plug it to your wi-fi router - that would be the most effective solution of the problem. [Elphel-support] Reflash a camera with pre-installed elphel software
Dear Jason, Here are the current instructions for reflashing: 1. First check: 1.1 There's an /nfs (absolute path) folder. Its structure is /nfs/images/ /nfs/latest80/ - a link that points to /nfs/images/software_version/ 1.2 Locate where the CVS project is checked out, should be - /home/elphel/Elphel_projects/elphel353-software_version/elphel353/ note: the instructions for reflashing can also be found in README.flash. 1.3 Find out the PC interface name the camera connected to. (type ifconfig in a terminal window): the result should be either eth0 or eth1. Also remember the PC ip address. 1.4 It's better to connect the camera directly to the PC. If between the cam and the PC there's a router/switch - it is possible that the special packets will be blocked. In that case the reflashing script will not run further when the camera is set to the netboot mode (see 2.4). 2. Reflash: 2.1 Open a terminal(konsole) window, go to the project directory, type: cd /home/elphel/Elphel_projects/elphel353-software_version/elphel353/ 2.2 Get to super-user, type: sudo su 2.3 Then init a couple of environment variables, type: . ./init_env 2.3 Launch reflashing : ./netboot -d eth1 -nfs 192.168.0.15:/nfs/latest80 -cmd update 192.168.0.15 - example PC ip-address eth1 - PC's interface name to which the camera is connected to. It should print: Using internal boot loader: INTERNAL_NW - Network boot (default). Using internal boot loader: INTERNAL2 - Level2 boot. Starting boot... 2.4 Disconnect/Connect the cable from/to the camera several times (3-5 times with 1-2s intervals should work) - this will bring the camera to a netboot mode - the 2 LEDs will start blinking fast. Meanwhile the flashing script will run further and exit. Wait for 2-3 minutes till the camera reflashing is done, then reboot the cam. note: the network connection in the knetwork-manager should be marked as connect automatically. Otherwise the PC loses it's ip address on disconnect. If it loses its ip - get to the netboot mode 1st, then restore the PC address. PS. We're going to have a more automated reflashing method within a week probably when we release a new version of live usb. ___ Support-list mailing list Support-list@support.elphel.com http://support.elphel.com/mailman/listinfo/support-list_support.elphel.com

Re: [Elphel-support] Exposure priority
Dear Dimitrios, Is there a way to set auto-exposure priority to exposure so that when the camera tries to find a solution for a given lighting condition, it tries first to adjust gain and then exposure? I believe the default is 'gain priority' i.e. adjust exposure until lighting is within required limits while keeping gain fixed. We have only exposure adjusted (within autoexposure/autowb window) with gains set manually only (fixed green and auto-adjusting red blue for white balance) - 'gain priority' like you called it. So the solution for now is to try to set gains manually so the darkest scene is not blurred. Different default gains for sunny/cloudy conditions might work. What do you think? The effective range for adjusting gains is not wide - images get noisier above 8. You might have already played with it. Their default value 0x1 means that there's no binning nor skipping is done. Binning and skipping in simple words is a way to get higher frame rate keeping the same field of view. Both of them significantly degrade the quality of the image. Our camera application needs to disable both Binning and Skipping modes to get fps more than 100. What's the pixel frame size? What restricts the fps at the moment? If you open the camera control interface - here's a snapshothttp://wiki.elphel.com/images/d/de/Controls_with_blank.jpeg - in the top-left you will see the current frame size with the FPS. Hi Jim, The ImageJ plugins process images in batch. Before running a plugin you need to compile it through ImageJ ~ Plugins - Compile... After that it should appear in the plugins list in the menu. You might need to restart the ImageJ to get the list updated. To just open JP4 and save as JPEG there's a plugin JP46_Reader_camera. Re: [Elphel-support] more about my problems with the HDD
Carlos, Could you please repeat steps 3 and 4 from the wiki article? In step 3 after *fdisk /dev/hda*: 1. type *p* - it will show the existing partitions on the disk. Normally you should get something like: Disk /dev/hda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes 42 heads, 63 sectors/track, 11075 cylinders, total 29305206 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 4096 = 4096 bytes Device Boot Start End 1K-Blocks Id System /dev/hda1 129305205 117220820 83 Linux If there's nothing try to create one (if it lists hda1 delete it and recreate): 1. type *n*, then *p* for primary, then *1*, choose defaults after that. This should create the partition hda1 or display an error. 2. type *p* to check if the partition is created. 3. type *w* to save the partition table. Then proceed to the Step 4 from the wiki article. are mtdblocks inside hda? No Regards, Oleg Dzhimiev ___ Support-list mailing list Support-list@support.elphel.com http://support.elphel.com/mailman/listinfo/support-list_support.elphel.com

1. hdparm -I /dev/hda where I - is the capital i. 2. So, with the fdisk -l saying Disk /dev/hda doesn't contain a valid partition table. Does it show the hda1 partition from the fdisk itself? Re: [Elphel-support] the problems from the hdd (in short)
Carlos, So you are saying its posible to reuse the black conector soldering back to the 10369? wouldn't it be better to find a new black piece (from the diagram i supose its the one called J6 CF/HDD adapter) i mean because of the broken pins. The pins looked fine on your P1110893-50q.jpg (I don't see any missing at least). If you see that some pins are broken could you please make a picture of them? So, yes, the connector can be reused if there are no broken pins. On 10369 wiki page right under the functional diagram there's a link to the 10369 Circuit Diagram, Parts List, PCB layouthttp://wiki.elphel.com/images/9/9a/10369a.pdf . In the PDF there's a list of components. J6 is Horisontal Socket, 50 pins, 2 rows 1.27mm pitch, Samtec SFMH-125-02-L-D-L (I think there's a typo in horizontal) now i have removed the hdd enclosure and the wire. The camera works fine. we want to try the sata external conexion, some recomendations? what format must have the disk? it should be automatically detected? 1. Any HDD should work ok. 2. Don't forget to provide the power to the external HDD. 3. Power on the HDD before turning on the camera. 4. The HDD will be detected as hda - additionally you can verify this with dmesg, hdparm -l /dev/hda or any other commands... cat /proc/partitions. 5. Then you can follow the HDD Formathttp://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=HDD_Format guide. After that it should be working as the internal HDD used to. Flavio, From what I have, there was an issue with DMA from the cards, but the thread seems to be old. What precautions should I take in opening the camera? Also, if the cards do not work, will the camera simply hang or is there any chance of damaging it? Check out videos from this page http://www3.elphel.com/manufacturing. Basically you need to take out 4 screws holding the top cover, no force applied. Insert a card with the front picture facing top. Then follow this guidehttp://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=HDD_Formatto format it to ext2. Be careful when you take out a CF card. Hi Carlos, i'm downloading the raw files via ftp (with filezilla) and there is a lot of failed transfer files. Is there another better/faster method? (of course i mean with the internal disk attached to the camera) You could try to download files through http. You just need to mount (unmount first) the HDD to /usr/html/somefolder and it will be available as http://camera-ip/somefolder - in other words the webserver document root is /usr/html/. Or you could create a link in /usr/html/ pointing to where the HDD is mounted. Best regards, Oleg Dzhimiev Electronics Engineer phone: +1 801 783 x124 Elphel, Inc. Marco, Ephel camera buy nc353 L once logged on via the ip, but then stopped working and fails to connect 1. Was it the first time you logged in (telnet?) to the camera? What commands did you try? 2. You tried powering it off and on, right? 3. When you power on the camera how do the LEDs on its back behave? Yellow should be solid on, green - blinking. 4. What's your LAN subnet? 192.168.0.xxx? Re: [Elphel-support] Synchronizing with an external flash
Hi Eric, You might have seen the schematics - http://wiki.elphel.com/images/9/9a/10369a.pdf So, you get 5V only on the PIN 4 of J15. TRIG_OUT=0x80. PINs 2 3 need an external power source. They are galvanically decoupled with the camera's circuitry. GPIO[10] controls a diod. So if you would like to use PIN2 you should connect: V+=PIN3, PIN2=FLASH=GND. TRIG_OUT should be 0x20. Each GPIO has 2 bits in this register. You shouldn't be too worried but it would be better to update the software) We don't have the latest image on sf.net - I uploaded it to http://community.elphel.com/files/8.2.13/ Then if you're on linux you can set up nfs server and run update from the camera: 192.168.0.9 - System Preferences - Firmware. Re: [Elphel-support] binning modes, sum and average, how to change them?
Biel, My bad, the address should be in quotes, otherwise wget treats parameters in the line as something else: wget http://elphel/parsedit.php?DCM_HORDCM_VERTBIN_HORBIN_VERT; wget output show only the download status. The contents of the request can stored in a separate file. 'embed' 'immediate': The effect is better seen if you open links in the browser (firefox/chrome...): 'embed=0.18' will show you an image from the camera on the page. 'immediate' - the parsedit.php response will be in an xml format (versus html page by default). SENSOR_REGS32 a parameter somewhere in the camera? where can I review it? In your browser go http://elphel/parsedit.php?SENSOR_REGS32, but ideally you shouldn't use it. Go with DCM_HOR,DCM_VERT,BIN_HOR BIN_VERT There's a GUI way to read parameters - go to http://elphel - Parameter Editor - check the groups of interest - View/Edit-link What's your goal, btw? For example, you could write a script on php that would be doing the same things with parsing an xml response in it pretty easily. And you would be able to call it from a command line or from a browser. Best regards, Oleg Dzhimiev Electronics Engineer phone: +1 801 783 x124 Elphel, Inc. Re: [Elphel-support] binning modes, sum and average, how to change them?
Biel, What I meant with all this is to: 1 - check out how much light do I gain from pixel binning (by suming) vs pixel binning (by averaging) So, you would want to read EXPOS parameter as well with autoexposure enabled, right? (by avraging) isn't it? Yes, that's correct. how do I get the luminous advantage of pixel binning (by summing)? We don't have this setting in the upper level parameters. Do you have the datasheet for the sensor? I looked it up. You can switch between summing and averaging in register 0x20, bit 5. The commands from the camera terminal are: read: fpcf -i2cr16 4820 1 write: fpcf -i2cw16 4820 0x60 - enable summing fpcf -i2cw16 4820 0x40 - switch back to averaging Where 0x[48] is the I2C sensor's address, 0x[20] - register address. You can connect to the camera through telnet. Or go http://elphel - Terminal and type the commands there. This way of changing the sensor parameters will not be in sync with the frames' exposure period - so you might be getting a transitional broken frame(s). Re: [Elphel-support] binning modes, sum and average, how to change them?
Biel, yes I understand this but since I have two front ends one color the other BW any color degradation might not affect the BW isn't it? If binning skipping in BW sensor work exactly the same as in the color sensor - for pairs of columns and rows - then you will get the same binning artifacts. I haven't tried binning with a BW sensor - so, I'm not sure. Just found this pagehttp://campus.udayton.edu/~ISSL/index.php/research/binning-artifact-removal/ - they say they have some code that corrects binning artifacts. I was able to split it into jpegs, here's a samplehttp://community.elphel.com/incoming/Videos/1351368477_370584.jpeg . Looked at the file header - the MOV header is emtpy (all zeros), while the images exif headers are ok. Uploaded a modified scripthttp://community.elphel.com/files/php_scripts/split_mov_2.php.txt (erase .txt extension) - then you will be able to launch it from a command line: php split_mov_2.php path-to-mov-file extension-of-the-images example: php split_mov_2.php /data/oleg/test_flavio/s01p4t2_1351346876_661174.mov jp4 Though it's not to difficult to enable php in apache)) Note: the script will get you a bunch of jp4s right in the folder where the mov is stored. Re: [Elphel-support] INFORMATION CONCERNING NC353L-369-IMU-GPS
Hi, Daniell, What recording format to choose so as to be able to write files without loosing quality and maintaining reasonable file size? I would go JP4 http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=JP4 format. It is designed to preserve as much data as possible during compression. Do you propose or know of some software that will enable us to go from recording to viewing/editing? we want to keep this as simple as possible as we will be recording many hours up to 6 hours per day. When recorded the files are packed into MOVs. After that MOVs can be split and converted to JPEGs or played with patched mplayer. 1. In this posthttp://blog.elphel.com/2009/11/interfacing-elphel-cameras-with-gstreamer-opencv-opengl-and-python-get-profit-of-dsp-or-gpu-based-optimisation-control-camera-settings-from-python-application-or-human-interface-device-hid/ there's information about playing a JP4 stream - with MOV files it should work the same. 2. Another program http://blog.elphel.com/2010/07/jp4-workflow/ is called movie2dng - it splits MOVs and converts JP4s into DNGs. Setting up your workflow might require some scripting. What would be the best method for storage? The image size will not go above 2MB. So, 6 hours and 7 fps result in ~300GB of data. The best option is to connect an external SATA HDD (or SSD). Another option would be a couple of Compact Flash cards. Can we control frame rate? Yes We fly at approximetly 75 Km/h and the distance from the wires varies from 10 to 30 meters. What lens do you recommend for this? Depends on the FoV you need. Could you show any sample pictures? In the Eyesis4Pi system we use VD lenses (listed herehttp://www3.elphel.com/accessories) - F=4.5mm, F/1.8, M12-mount. We can also make the front end thermally compensated and calibrate it to compensate for the lens distortions - like in NC353-PHG http://www3.elphel.com/nc353-phg model. Re: [Elphel-support] broken files from footage?
Flavio, Looks like ffmpeg puts (at least) its own headers into the files: JFIF Lavc52.123.0... - this causes the wrong conversion. I don't know whether an *.mkv file has full frames inside (most likely it's not) If it does then split_mov_2.phphttp://community.elphel.com/files/php_scripts/split_mov_2.php.txtcan split it. If not - the solution might be replacing the headers with the ones from the correct footage. Could you also upload an mkv sample? I can't seem to make movie2dng work with them however... Of all the scenes, this is the one I'd like to save the most. Re: [Elphel-support] Reflash questions.
Hi niknah, How long should the reflash take? It takes 18+ minutes via netboot for me. It takes 2 minutes max. You launch the netboot script, set camera into the netboot mode then wait until the yellow LED goes off and power cycle. You could try to download our llie dvd - kubuntu-elphel-4.isohttp://community.elphel.com/files/live-dvd/ and reflash from it. What's a good way to make changes to the kernel modules? Is there a way to compile the drivers as a loadable module? Instead of having to compile + reflash on every change. You can compile a module and then upload the results on the camera via ftp. Re: [Elphel-support] change camera parameters through Telnet
Hi, so there are three stages or three levels of information: Sensor, FPGA, and software isn't it? let's say I don't care that much on the software that runs on the camera, is it possible to control both FPGA and sensor with a single set of tools via de command line? or maybe run a process that keep control of both sensor and FPGA asynchronously. It is possible but not recommended: fpcf -help. when I call the pixel binning summing process with this fpcf -i2cw16 4820 0x60 i'm calling the FPGA isn't it? where 0x60 is a value and I guess 4820 is a process (in this case pixel binning summing) in the fpga, and I guess -i2cw16 is the sensor? Here only sensor is called. It's controlled through an i2c bus 0x48 (shifted by 1 bit for convenience - it's 0x90) sensor's address on that bus, 0x20 - register's address, 0x60 - value. You do have a datasheet for the sensor, right? Re: [Elphel-support] change the IP to a subnet like 192.168.0.xx (like in the original configuration)
Biel, In case of me making some mistake and screwing it up, how could I recover it? Would I have to send my camera off? It's unlikely something could go wrong here. Just remember your settings. In any case you would be able boot the camera through the network provided you boot a live usb on your PC. in order to have an IP from the device in the xx.xx.0.xx subnet (factory settings) do I change only the IP value to the new subnet (from 192.168.1.9 to 192.168.0.9)? Or do I have to change Netmask, Gateway, and the Broadcast to some other value also? Normally, you should change the gateway to 192.168.0.1 (or whatever your router's ip address is) and broadcast 192.168.0.255, netmask stays the 255.255.255.0. In short, the camera's address needs to be in the same subnet to be accessible - meaning if it stays connected to the same router - the router's wire address has to be changed to 192.168.0.1.1...254. So, first change the camera address then, the router's address. Re: [Elphel-support] LiveUSB kubuntu 10.04 -no ethernet driver, firmware upgrade problems
Hello, 1 . when I build the live USB using “unetbootin-window” tools. If I use ISO file “ kubuntu-elphel-3.iso” dowloaded from http://community.elphel.com/files/live-dvd/ it’s OK . But if I use ISO file “kubuntu-elphel-4.iso” to create liveUSB, it will notify a message when booting “invalid or crashed kernel”. Can I use kubuntu-elphel-3.iso to build software without any problems? If I want to use kubunto-elphel-4.iso to build liveUSB ,how to fix this problem. Do not have Windows at hand to test unetbootin. But just tried creating a live USB in kubuntu 11.10 with both: its built-in usb creator and unetbootin - it works. You could try another program or burn the ISO image on a DVD disk. At the same time you should not have any troubles with building software in kubuntu-elphel-3.iso. 2. in kubuntu-10.04 LTS environment built from kubuntu-elphel-3.iso I can’t upgrade firmware using “search elphel camera” and “net Flash” either. I noticed that is because the driver for on-board ethernet not installed (I can asccess internet on win7, the same PC, it prove that the hardware is OK) in terminal console, if I type “ifconfig” I can see only loopback interface, there was no eth0 interface. If I type lspci command I can see it can recognize the ethernet from “atheros” (it display atheros AR8151 on window) I dowloaded the driver for onboard called “AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.14.tar” I did as follow: tar -xzvf AR81Family-Linux-v1.0.1.9.tar.gz cd scr sudo su make install modprobe atl1e exit but still canot install driver ,it say “there are no kernel source” I search google they said I need : sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic sudo apt-get install build-essential then I type : sudo apt-get install build-essential , it said something like “already install” . but when I type : sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic , it said something like “connecting to ubuntu server…” actually, I’m trying to install ethernet driver - I could not access internet to get update. My question: could you show me how to install ethernet driver without connecting internet? If I can not install driver for onboard ethernet I can not upgrade firmware! So, typing in terminal: ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.15 should be reporting: No such device I cannot help you with installing linux drivers on you PC because I can't reproduce the problem. Could you try it on another PC. Also, there's a way to update camera firmware from the camera, you will need: 1. new firmware image 2. NFS (Network File System) server installed on PC Then if you go http://camera-ip - System Preferences - Firmware - that page checks if NFS is available, contains a valid image and does an update. Re: [Elphel-support] elphel camera for remote sensing package
Hello Jo, I am investigating different remote sensing packages for UAVs and have yet to find one that suits the needs that I envision. Many people are taking small digital cameras (GoPro and other similar cameras) and strapping them onto UAVs and flying them around and mapping the ground, which is fantastic, but none of these cameras (as far as I can tell) is generating images that can be standardized to each other or to any specific standard in general. It would be nice to have an incident light meter on the UAV that is measuring incident light and transmitting this incident light reading to the cameras so that they have a standard from which to reference, this way actual reflectance of objects on the ground could be calculated. Also, there are many instances where the dynamic range of the image sensor is not great enough to measure all areas of the scene, so if an array of cameras could capture the scene at different exposure values, these images could be combined in post to generate a floating-point image for scientific purposes, and an HDR composited image for human viewing of the terrain. I have attached a conceptual image of what the array could look like with both Infrared and visible spectrum sensors, even having one camera that is incident light referenced would be a huge leap forward from where things are now. - It is possible to have one of the cameras (with autoexposure set to -2EV) in the array set the exposures for others. The easiest way is to do it through the network - can be done with PHP, for example. - The cameras must be synced with one of them act as a trigger source. - Mutual orientation is also important. We might be moving toward this type of camerahttp://blog.elphel.com/2012/10/heptaclops-camera-and-the-393/ and maybe have a prototype. Is a package like this something that Elphel is considering or might consider in the future? Miniaturization of current components would be required in order to fit an array of even three cameras in most current electric RC based UAVs that are available. I think there is a good market for a robust and open remote sensing package for UAVs. Just look at how well 3dRobotics is doing with their ardupilot boards. One of the most discussed topics on the forums is integrating cameras into the different aircraft platforms, and how frustrating this is. At the moment the weight for UAV use can be reduced by using the boards w/o metal bodies/covers or creating a custom lighter body for the array. Re: [Elphel-support] stereo camera with BW CCD
Hello Daniel, 1. Setting the WOI: 1a. Set the width (doesn't work correctly in camvc - so, Parameter Editor multisensor): I could reproduce your problem - that's a bug. Notes and temporary solution: 1a1. It's ok to change WOI_WIDTH only. 1a2. If the image is scrambled - setting WOI_WIDTH to 512 first fixes it - switch WOI_WIDTH back to 608 or 1024 - I get normal images. 1a3. I set WOI_WIDTH=608 right after the boot - it didn't break the image. 1b. Set the height (doesn't work correctly in camvc - so, parsedit.php): WOI_HEIGHT=1216, MULTI_HEIGHT1=608, MULTI_HEIGHT2=608 I applied them at the same time. 2. set FPS 2a. TRIG=0x4 (should be already set) 2b. 50fps: TRIG_PERIOD=192 (the actual period in seconds is TRIG_PERIOD / 96MHz) 60fps: TRIG_PERIOD=160 Note: at 50fps your max exposure is 20ms - if longer some images will be dropped. 2c. To check the timestamps go to http://192.168.0.9/parsedit.php last 9 images, 3 per row, scale=0.2 http://192.168.0.9/parsedit.php?images=9:3:.2 3. Adjusting phases: 3a. Try changing MULTI_PHASE2 parameter: example: 0x1000f bits 1718 - set the clock quadrature - in the example it's 0x1 lower 16 bits - set the small steps withing the quadrature - the range is 0xff00 (-256) - 0x00ff (255) bit 20 - resets the fpga's clock manager and sets the chosen phase - zeroed after the register is written. 3b. MULTI_PHASE1 sets the clock phase the 1st sensor and the MUX board, but the image looks good - no need to change, just fyi. 3c. SENSOR_PHASE - clock phase between the system board and the MUX board - since the 1st sensor is ok - no need to change it. Please let me know if everything worked. Re: [Elphel-support] Stereo Camera Systems: Distance to Image Sensor and Sub-sampling Ethernet Output
Hello Justin, 2) For best performance in the JP4 format, what kind of write speed would be required of the local storage device with the current model 353? The camera's compressor takes less time when processing JP4 than JPEG - 14fps (jp4) vs 10.6 fps (jpeg). The max write speed is: ~20MB/s for Compact Flash cards and SATA - the speed is CPU restricted. 100M*b*/s - over network ~1-2MB/s for USB storage (don't remember exactly but it's slower than over network) What is the anticipated maximum write speed for the upcoming 393 model? Specifically I am wondering about the limitations of compact flash vs. SSD for local storage. 1Gb/s over network Theoretically it should be up to 6Gb/s (SATA III) for mSATA SSD - we'll see. Hello, I also want to ask a question about frame rate.I got to konw that the frame rate can get 15fps at full resolution at least from your web.Frame rate can get higher to 25fps at least when adjust resolution lower .But I see the frame rate is 2fps at full resolution, and when I lower the resolution or higher the parameter of frame rate manually, the frame rate can not change actully(the vedio of camera is not influent at all). Please tell me the reason. How do you set the frame rate? Free run (default) or TRIG, TRIG_CONDITION and TRIG_PERIOD parameters? How do you check frame rate? In the camera control interface? Sometimes it can be incorrect. If the number is green then exposure is short enough for the maximum fps. If red - then exposure limits the frame rate. What's the exposure time? Set it to 10 ms, for example. Hello, I have tried the way you suggested.I set the frame rate 25 fps,and the exposure time is 35ms.Then the frame rate is correct, but the picture of vedio is still bad in the natural light not the very low light. When I set the exposure mode to autoexposure, the exposure time is about 400ms.The vedio is normal then. But the frame rate is about 2 fps at that time. What kind/name of lens do you have? Does it have adjustable aperture? Check it. With the aperture wide open you should get exposure less than 1ms at daytime. The camera can get 640*480 in 25fps just using 3M bandwidth,do you use Inter prediction or intra prediction in the camera? Which part is used as Caching the pre-frame?ddr sdram or sdram? There's no inter/intra prediction. The pixels from the sensor are buffered into ddr sdram before compression - after compressor the image is written into the frame buffer accessed by the cpu. Hi, But,i fall in the trouble of vignetting recently.I find you use the method of Function approximation.I look up some papers, the Function is f(i,j) = cosh(rx*(x-x0))*cosh(ry*(y-y0)) +c .However, yours is f(x,y)=p*(x-x0)^2 +q*(y-y0)^2 + c-f(x,y)=AX*x^2 + BX*x + AY*y^2 + BY*y + c. Can you ping the camera's ip address? Is it the default one (192.168.0.9) or did you change? Try both addresses. 2. Another PC? or verify if your PC's network port works with some other network device. 3. If possible - another power supply or some router that has power over ethernet (the camera's not really compatible with it but might work). 4. Another network cable? We try to plug/unplug several times to start netboot mode but we didn't succeed, the two Ethernet leds are of the camera are on and the netboot method didn't succeed to connect to the camera. Re: [Elphel-support] FW: Product Enquiry
Hi Ian, Sorry, it took long to answer your questions. I'm looking at developing the camera where one is focused on the view ahead of me and the other to focus on me (180º) so I can see my body movement and form during mountain biking and also to view my swimming technique. There are 2 ways: 1. Single system board + 2 sensors. 12-15fps@1080p synced 2. 2 separate single sensor cameras 25-30fps@1080p camera are synced with a special cable Images can be recorded over network (100Mb/s) or on the internal storage (Compact Flash card) Would you also be-able to provide the software that can produce a split screen to capture both camera views when the data is uploaded? Something relatively simple like refreshing split screen surely can be done. Do you mean a live preview? For waterproof applications I'm taking it that I would just need to seal the casing around the camera as-well? You would need to seal the network jack and the sync port (if 2 cameras used). Or you can design a custom weatherproof casing and get everything without the default casing. There is 12-36V modification of cameras that can be used with batteries. The default is 48V. And with something compact like TL-WR702N you can make it wireless. What fields of view the camera are you thinking of? Where is it mounted while you're swimming? Re: [Elphel-support] FW: Product Enquiry
Hello Ian, Could you please give me a price for the following: I'll ask Olga to send you quotes for these. Some important things: 1. The cameras do not have batteries inside - you would have to buy them from somewhere. As I said above we have 12-36V camera modification (11.1V is strongly not recommended). Hopefully you will be able to find something suitable. Normally a camera is powered through the network jack, but it's possible to provide power directly to the board. 2. The cameras can only be controlled/programmed over the network. For the software, I was wondering if you can also supply the software where I can upload the recorded videos on my computer where I can edit them and as there will be two views (front and back) it could change between views on the final edited video. Videos (MOV format) can be transferred through FTP. Could you please clarify on your question for the fields for the view of the camera's? Do you mean the types of views? I mean the field of view (or angle of view) for lenses as in this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_view. In other words, what are the focal lengths? Variable? You can estimate here http://community.elphel.com/files/dof/index.html (by varying focal length) - our default sensor (1/2.5 format) is preselected. Also, since full FoV is for the full res (2592x1944) - the FoV for 1080p will be proportionally smaller. Hi Ian, Apologies for the delay getting back to you, I've been away with work. I can install the battery inside the casing, would it be possible to re-charge it through a USB drive or something similar? It depends on the battery. Most are charged from a wall outlet. As the camera will also be used for cycling the camera view will need to adjust from close up to further away distances (for example the road ahead) so the focal lengths will need to be variable. Hi, I understand that the 10359 has an additional XC3S1200 FPGA that can be used for image processing routines without modifying the FPGA on the 353 main board. Is there a simple way to dump a Verilog generated bitstream onto the 10359 FPGA, such as putting it into a file like /etc/x353.bit? Yes, it's the same - copy x359.bit to /etc/x359.bit and reboot. Verilog for 10359 http://elphel.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/elphel/elphel353-8.0/fpga/x359/. The 10359 is connected between the sensor and the system board: sensor - 10359 - 10353 The 10359's input is raw pixel data and so the output needs to mimic the sensor as well - the compression is done on the system board. Re: [Elphel-support] captured image location in memory
Hello Gaurav, 1. when camera ON then it provide us blurred image. so how to overcome?? What kind of lens do you have? One possible problem can be is that you are using CS mount lens with CS-to-C 5mm adapter ring - http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=File:Cap_and_ring.jpeg 2. when camera ON then it is blinking continuously so what it means ?? is it video recording or image capturing ?? The blinking green led means the camera is connected to a network - network packets. Recording or capturing is is not indicated anyhow. Solid orange - power. 3. i want to capture a image (say for reference image) and then by rotating camera some degree i want to capture another image (say current image) after that i want to perform correlation between reference image and current image. http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=Elphel_353_series_quick_start_guide#Getting_the_first_images Store the images and perform correlation if you have a program that does it. 4. i want to reprogram fpga for finding correlation , so i should know storage location of my current image and reference image so can you please tell me where image is store in memory?? That's a difficult question and I cannot answer it right away as I don't know. Could you please have a look at the verilog simulation of the compressor? Are you intending to run correlation over compressed images or raw data? 5. when image is captured then are you applying any kind of image processing operation and then image is stored in camera.?? After the image is captured - the raw pixel data is converted and compressed into a chosen image format. No other processing is performed. http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=JP4 http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=Circbuf 6. I successfully generate a x353.bit file but for rebooting camera i unplug Ethernet cable and after 1 minute i plug it again, so it is rebooted but there is no message popup for ensuring that it is rebooted and is it right way to reboot camera?? Did you meet the timing constraints? Rebooting: a. Not clear. You don't have to wait for 1 min - just unplug and plug the cable to the camera network port and wait until it boots for ~1min. But if you copied something on the camera it's better to run sync over the filesystem first, in a browser: http://192.168.0.9/phpshell.php?command=sync So, it's not rebooted if the power supply is on and left connected to the camera. b. if you have Linux, run terminal and type: telnet 192.168.0.9 root/pass to login, then type: sync reboot -f You can perform this from any telnet program. Re: [Elphel-support] captured image location in memory
Dear Guarav, 1. I want to perform correlation over raw data but as you mentioned it is very difficult to find location of captured image and as you don t know about it ,so can you please tell me who is able to answer my question?? 1. Did you run the simulation of x353_1.tf? There you can track what happens to the raw sensor data. 2. To process the raw data you don't have to know where it's stored - you can intercept it right when it's coming from the sensor - PXD[..], HACT,VACT 2. i download all x353.v and x353.ucf file and its supporting files ,as i try to create .bit file then i got some errors during implementation as below: output no error: i got x353.bit file but as i reboot camera with this newly genrated x353.bit file i got some strips of different color. please find attachment of blurred image . SO IS I DID SOMETHING WRONG? 1. Timing, synthesis and Implementation reports from ISE Webpack? 2. What image do you get from the default x353.bit? - http://elphel.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/elphel/elphel353-8.0/fpga/x3x3/x353.bit Best regards, Oleg Dzhimiev Electronics Engineer phone: +1 801 783 x124 Elphel, Inc. ___ Support-list mailing list Support-list@support.elphel.com http://support.elphel.com/mailman/listinfo/support-list_support.elphel.com
Re: [Elphel-support] build-in AF motor
Hi, Do your cameras provide build-in AF motor, which could be controlled by my own codes? No, but there is a solution - you can get: * camera * lens with built-in AF motor * arduino, for example - the camera has a USB port and you will be able to control the lens' motor through arduino. Also, writing and running your own program or script for focus evaluation/monitor on any camera model is a relatively simple task - requires php or c. There is some work in the AF direction: http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=Focus_helper - shows high frequency components of the image. Re: [Elphel-support] NC353L Camera for video recording
Hello, I’m working on a project that will require 12 cameras setup in different locations throughout our building. All locations will have Ethernet available. I’m interested in the Elphel NC353L camera because it seems to have the features we need. However, I’m not an expert in video systems and I’m also not a software engineer. I need to speak with someone on your team to find out if I will be able to get your camera to do what I need. Essentially, we need the camera to record video directly to a Network Attached Storage device. If the cameras can do what I need them to do, then I will need help putting a quote together for the equipment so I can put it in my project plan. NAS need to have/support Network File System (NFS) server - then it can be mounted to each camera and be used for recording. A single camera's recording rate over network is 100Mb/s max - depending on the required FPS and frame dimensions one might have to lower the compression quality. Hello Hamid, Yes, the data from 'fpcf -imu 1 | grep 0:' looks wrong. I guess, the best way to troubleshoot would be sending the camera to us. Or you can try to record a log and check what's inside or send it to us. 1. Record a log (do you have a CF card inside?) - START: http://192.168.0.9/logger_launcher.php ?file=/usr/html/CF/test.logindex=1n=100 STOP: http://192.168.0.9/phpshell.php?command=killall%20-1%20log_imu You can open the logger_launcher.php and check what actual commands are executed. 2. Re: [Elphel-support] Elphel 353 - Question about Focus
Hi, *Lens:* E3Z4518CS-MPIR We haven't been able to get the focus to show the cards as sharp that with the Sanyo cameras. The cards are a 124cm from the camera, and with the Sanyo ones we are using a Pentax 5-50mm lens. Any advice or recommendation you may have to help us out with this project will be really appreciated. When the focus is the best - is the focusing ring at its extreme position? If yes: a. ideally you need to increase the sensor's distance from the lens by adjusting the sensor's plate position (1-2 mm probably) in the front end. or b. decrease the working focal length (wider field of view) - rotate the ring towards W until you get the best focus. c. you can also try closing the iris a little to increase the depth of field. If no, then a better lens should be tried probably. What's the image quality? frame dimensions? Jan, Just one last question - the frames do seem to be in sync now, but I wanted to ask whether it’s necessary to have the same TRIG_PERIOD set on both cameras in order for this to work or whether the TRIG_PERIOD doesn’t matter for the second camera as it just waits for the signal high? You might have already tested it - yes, TRIG_PERIOD of the slave camera does not have effect in this mode. Re: [Elphel-support] Elphel NC353L-369 Master - Slave external triggering
Hi Jan, In the second case TRIG is still 0, because as soon as I set that it stops responding. That's what happens when you set up external triggering but the signals are not received for some reason. Another way to test your cable would be trying the following settings: Master Camera: TRIG_PERIOD=3840 TRIG_OUT=0x80 (send trigger signals to J15) TRIG_CONDITION=0x20 (trigger source - J15) TRIG=0x4 1. The order of applying TRIG and TRIG_CONDITION doesn't matter. If trigger signal is not generated then the camera will stop responding after applying the last parameter of these two. 2. If the Master camera doesn't stop responding then the cable and the port are ok. 3. The Slave camera can have exactly the same settings - so, you can test it in the Master mode as well - which only depends on the end of the sync cable plugged in. What results are you getting? Re: [Elphel-support] Extension of stereobase and elongation sensor's cable length
We got a good results with 0x1ff80 value for MULTI_PHASE[n] in both channels without changing SENSOR_PHASE. I would measure the range around 0x1ff80 while the image is still good, then set the phase to the middle. For a 450mm cable the working range is ~60-100 steps. At first we get a broken images at same manner. By the way, if we use 450 mm cable with MULTI_PHASE = 0x1ff80 we get same problem, so MULTI_PHASE is strongly depends on cable length. Yes - signal propagation delay. If the experiment will give us a good results we intend to expand a stereobase for second setup at the same manner. In with case we will order to you addition cables. Do you offer now a sensor board (compatible with our 10359) with monochrome sensor? If so what type of sensor installed into such board? We do have some monochrome sensor boards. You can buy them but using a monochrome sensor reduces overall resolution of the sensor+lens combination. And most of nowadays the applications deal with color sensors. So, you can: a. Keep using a color sensor - just work with R, G and B channels separately, then combine. b. Get a monochrome sensor - but use a green color band filter in front of the lens to a have better resolution. Re: [Elphel-support] Extension of stereobase and elongation sensor's cable length
Forgot to send a copy back to the mailing-list: I found that next values are: SENSOR_PHASE - 0x9 MULTI_PHASE1 - 0x100b0. 1. I don't know. With SENSOR_PHASE unchanged try several points within each quarter for MULTI_PHASE1, e.g.: 0x8ff70, 0x8, 0x80070, 0x9ff70, ... 0xaff70, ... 0xbff70, 0xb, 0xb0070. Sometimes a phase shifter (digital clock manager in the fpga) can get stuck - so it's safer to set 15th bit to 1 to reset it. You can try with a 450mm cable if the long one can be easily disassembled. 2. How exactly do you connect 2 cables? picture? Any difference in the voltage levels on the ends between 450mm and 900mm setups? 3. If both images are broken in the same manner then try to change the SENSOR_PHASE.
