Open minded is okay, but one also has limited resources. There are many theory and idea floating around. As you pointed out, one pretty much needs to be looking before they are likely to venture. I'm pretty satisfied, not looking for deep unifying theory.

I do look at intelligence as a way to understand many of the systems operating in the world - like the economic system. We differ in that I am okay with capitalism as a system that works fairly well (controversial.) We might discuss this off list.

I'm sure an AGI would like to know the grand truth so that it could prioritize. I can operate with a limited view of what is better for the moment. But, if the AGI can't operate before the grand truth is discovered, it will take a bit longer ;)

I think that motivates most of us here on this list? The question is how open-minded one is. Logic can be found in stuff that makes little sense to you right now. An electric circuit makes perfect sense for you and me (not the analogue one though! :P) but it does not make much sense to a guy from the stone age because of his limited perspective.

In order to get a bigger picture understanding we will most likely have to accept weird logical stuff.

Eckhart Tolle has nothing to do with Campbell and his theory but he writes EXACTLY the same thing. So do hundreds of other people without knowing anything about each other.

See http://puu.sh/cu5pi/6a48f3f64d.png for example ... (taken from page 175 in this PDF ... http://res.allpdftools.com/allpdftools/pdf-download-resources/A_New_Earth.pdf ... copy & paste do not work as the PDF is broken.)

It's just nice to have a scientific/logical framework which lets you understand all the stuff people like Tolle are writing.

I guess that's enough metaphysics for this year ... my point was just that AGI will most likely be aware of all of this and act accordingly and most of our expectations and extrapolations might turn out to be the product of a very naive/narrow perspective. ;-)

This is where I learned the importance of getting the bigger picture of what is going on.
