"Growth... a positive change of your intent." Does this mean that my intentions get better so I have grown? Who judges the "better" of my intentions?
I don't think that anybody needs to judge you ... it's probably implementation based. The signal to noise ratio of your interface to the larger reality just increases as the entropy of your consciousness decreases. Your thoughts, fears and ego just keep you busy interacting with the less fundamental and less relevant physical realm ... especially within our culture.
If Super Mario only cares about jumping over blocks then chances are low that he will be finding "exploits" that allow him to interact with the host of his virtual Super Mario Land reality. Of course you don't have to find "exploits" within our physical reality ... it's designed to provide an interface to facilitate growth. That's the theory.

I also have questions about ego being bad, but I should do some research first. I'm not sure I will ever be able to wear one of these "enlightened people" hats.
The awakening process can get faster exponentially once you become aware of it. You entire life can change within a few years. Just read Campbell's book? It deals with all those topics on a scientific level. Even if you don't agree with anything he writes your world view might drastically change because he touches/questions so many core belief systems of our culture. The best thing is that using his framework you can then skip over any religious book and books about spiritual practice and understand all the metaphors and different approaches to entropy reduction. Suddenly even the "weird things" can be explained logically.
p.s.: Wow, so many skilled engineers and developers on this list. Microsoft, Dell, ... respect! :-) I spent 25 years in software-/system engineering and digital electronics ... and I really do feel you. I had to fix so much horrible code during my life and I was praying for certain colleagues never to leave the company so I would never have to maintain their ugly codebase. :-)
