Dear Group,

Unless I missed it, I have not seen that anybody has weighed in on actually what form of hand signals are in the State diving manual?  If everybody needed to know and is familiar with the left arm signal for what ever reason,  wouldn't that be the best to stick with?  After all, there were bicycles, motorcycles, and tractors to think about in those days before electric turn signals.

And, for the record, I still drive my car from before the electric turn signals and use the left arm method.

My understanding is that several years ago it became legal if not
recommended for bicyclists to signal right turns with the right hand.
Remember, the original left hand for right turn was from when cars were
first made and did not have blinkers for signaling. Pretty outdated now...

Subject: Re: [Bikies] Signaling a right turn with the right hand

I may be old school, but this was always the way I was instructed...at least
the first three parts...

Has that changed? I thought that those were still legal rules, whether on a
bike or motorcycle or in a car...

my $.02, thanks, kel

For the past couple of years, I've been signaling right turns by putting
my right hand out horizontally--just like for a left turn. I deliberately
switched from the legal left-hand-bent signal because it seems to reduce
the ambiguity, and therefore might give a 3-millisecond improvement in
reaction time to a distracted motorist.

I have, however, no evidence that this is actually safer. Thoughts?
Research? Anyone?
