Remember, it's a big car, basically 5-series-size. It's no heavier than
other vehicles of its size/weight and content.

No heavier than an E46 M3 convertible.

Not significantly heavier than a 2005 Mustang GT (which, despite being
enormous compared to recent past Mustangs and dwarfing any previous pony
except the '71-73 cars, is still smaller than the Monaro.)

The loss of trunk space to the gas tank is unfortunate, but GM decided
they didn't want to bring a car with the gas tank under the trunk floor
into the US following all the hullabaloo and silliness over the Crown Vic.

You can make a toe adjust on the rear of an E34 M5.
The good alignment shops know this (most don't).

As far as looks on par with an E46? I think the E46 is
quite a good looking car and the Pontiac is not. The
fact that BMW is also building ugly new cars does not
change my opinion.

Cheap suspension upgrade is available for the GTO.

Get on the web and buy the STOCK suspension from a Monaro, that it's owner
has removed for upgrade purposes.

The stock Holden suspension is a huge upgrade on the 59 Cadillac parts that
Pontiac insisted on.

Subject: <E30> Brake Lining Warning Light Craziness
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Symptoms:

Key in ON position: All lights on dash light up EXCEPT the brake lining warning
light.
Key in START position: Brake lining warning light DOES light up.

Car running: Have never seen the brake lining light turn on until tonight when
it lit up as I
drove over some big seams in the pavement, then it flickered.

Now, I understand that when the key is in the ON position all lights should
light up just to show
you that they're working, yes? It's like a test feature of the lights. That
would make me believe
that my light has burned out, except that when starting the car it DOES light
up. So I know the
bulb is fine, does this mean that there might be a short between the bulb and
the sensor somehow?
Where are the brake lining sensors on an E30? And am I even understanding the
system correctly?

Much thanks.

I had the exact same problem with a 325is conv. It is a well known problem
with E30s.

Search the web for more info, but this is what I have done: I pulled the
instrument cluster board out and then reflow all the soldering points (a bit
like the LMK fix), every single one of them.

It has been two years and the problem never reappeared. Might be worth a
try.

Yea, but you can afford much more performance stuff because they cost 10x
less. BMW hop-up parts are stupid expensive. A cam for a 95 maro that puts
the HP past the 400 mark is $200 including all the pushrods, lifters &
springs. The cams for an M3 are $700-800 each without anything else. For
an E30, the cams are going to put you in the 210-215hp range and on the E36
you're looking in the high 250's to 260 range. GC suspensions cost half for
a Camaro what they do for a BMW.

I'm pretty sure Subaru makes a car that's a killer track car without the
need of any aftermarket parts....

Said it before, if you want to go fast & have any concern at all over a
budget, you want good ol' American iron. For $10k you can build a monster
that will eat BMWs with $100k in them for lunch.

Only one POS 3, but I make it up with one POS Saab

You've got to be P.O.'d if you ran out & bought a 350hp GTO last year as the
400hp cars have completely de-valued them. The GTO isn't a domestic car,
it's an Australian Holden.

Repulsive???? Generic, yes, repulsive no. For one thing, it's the first
Pontiac I can remember in recent history that isn't covered with the tacky
plastic add-ons that have plagued the marque & brought on the nickname
"Plastiac." It looks a lot less like the Pontiacs of the 90s than the
current BMW fleet.

I'm attempting to remove the steering lock on my E36 track car and I seem
to have hit a conceptual snag. I read the directions James posted on the
Bimmerworld tech tips page:
<http://www.bimmerworld.com/Tech/techtips.htm>:

drill 3/8" hole, pry out spring
<http://www.bimmerworld.com/Tech/Steering_Lock.jpg>

I drilled one 3/8" hole between the "o" in Valeo and the taller straight
sided section (the one with the part numbers on it in the pic). I can see
the plunger type thing visible in the pic, but no spring. I drilled
another 3/8" hole just to the left of the first (creating the oval-type
shape you see in the pic) but I can't for the life of me see a spring I
can pry out. I can see how the mechanism works - once the key is removed,
the plunger moves outward and is pushed back when the key is turned. i
just can't see the spring that drives it.

Before I turn my ignition into swiss cheese, does anyone have further
direction? Is the spring to the left, right, fore, aft, above the
flat-disc we see in the pic? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tom,

Emailed you directly, but for the benefit of others..

DO NOT DRILL HOLES WHERE THE HOLES ARE IN THE BIMMERWORLD PIC!!!! Those
were the "mistakes" holes. Drill where the RED SQUARE is on the lower left
of the pic. Spring is under there.

Yes, I too found out the hard way. Wish they would better annotate that
pic. It is of great help but it needs one more key piece of info...;-)

Anyone know of an EBayer named FrostBoston who sells BMW items from

It has been two weeks since I won one of his auctions and haven't heard
a word from him yet. My payment is still sitting in PayPal in "Pending"

Has anyone dealt with this seller or have other contact information
for him/her? If so pls reply privately.

Barry,

If you can't reach the seller, you might check with the other buyer who
won an item from him that same day. Quick search yields details:

$51.00 Gemini CD-340 Professional CD Player ripp3079

Maybe "ripp3079" has had some luck getting in touch. If not, you two
can commiserate.

Good luck.

not familiar with the seller at all -- has zero feedback and no history.
