Donna,

Very cool item, but where on earth do you put
your license plate?

IIRC, on the yurro cars (where most Alpina cars went)
the license plate would be mounted below the bumper.

There are two holes at the recessed centerline. You'd need about 1/4"
longer screws. But I'd find a way to mount the plate on the bumper. :)

ah no.

the plate goes on a mounting bracket like shown in the second
pic sans plate, it just goes _over_ the nifty Alpina Heckblende.
tho I think there's another suitable fun German word for the part
which has a plate over it rather than just between the taillights.

there's a guy here with an E30 with lots of Alpina parts.. including a
similar panel between the rear tail lights.. and his rear Alpina valence
indeed has a mounting for the license plate below the rear bumper

I have two problems that have cropped up in the last week.

1. Radio. lights up, but the "ST" that indicates reception is blank and no
sound - any guesses? This has occurred intermitantly about 5 times over the
last year, but now its been dead the last week.

2. No fan. controll panel indicates appropriate fan level, but no fan. I
replaced the control board 3 years ago but had different symptoms then.
Different problem on the new board, or is there something else? (fuse, etc).

Thanks for the assistance!

There was that trick with resoldering some capacitor on the board. It
is in the acrhives on this site I believe. I don't remember the exact
specs on it. Something like a 4.7uF capacitor. I had the same problem
with the fan saying it was on but not actually blowing. Soldered in a
new capacitor for $.99 and it cured the problem. Even though you
replaced the board I would start there since it is only a buck to try
and fix it.

No guesses on the radio. Do you get sound with the CD? Is it just that
you have no reception or is there no power to the speakers? Do you get
the white noise from the speakers when the volume is turned up? You
did open up the fuse box and check that there were not any blown ones,
right? I am not sure if the radio and blower share a fuse or even a
ground for that matter.

True that! But my win-loss balance is pretty darn good and I don't whine

Nothing wrong here, move along, everything's fine.

Thanks to Donna Seeley for letting me drop by and look at the steering
rack on her M3. The one I bought looks exactly like hers, right down
to the numbers on the plate riveted to the place where the pinion gear
tube meets the rack tube. Pretty much just as Ed described. So,
right part in trunk, all I need now is the time to install it. And
the oil pump.

Unfortunately, as I was preparing to crawl under her car, I discovered
a puddle of oil that was, um, how you say, puddlier than usual.
Bummer, I sure hope that is easy/cheap to fix. Wait, it is an M3,
what am I saying? Guess she shouldn't just pour some "miracle"
stop-leaky stuff in there.

Hi all,
I finally tracked down a rear wiper arm for SWMBO's car and now I need
to figure out what wiper blade will fit. The end of the arm is a bit
different than the typical hook. Is it special somehow?

I did some careful carving on the sides of the plastic end - now an 18" Bosch
blade pops right on. I used a razor-sharp wood chisel thin things down.

If one was to rebuild a an M20 motor what are the minimum tools that one
would need?
My list is as follows:
1. Quality torque wrench.
2. Angle gauges for head bolts.
3. Gear puller
4. Piston ring compressor
5. Mic's (probably dial and caliper type, but is inside needed?).
6. Valve spring compressor (specific one needed?).

Any thing I've left out.

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I recently came across this obituary on one of BMW's greatest, for those
interested.

John Weese

BMW Works Rider Ernst Jacob Henne Dies
It’s been a horrible year for motorcycle competitors, with the deaths of
Paris-Dakar standouts Fabrizio Meoni and José Manuel Perez. Count Ernst Jacob
Henne was among those racing legends that passed in 2005, but thankfully, it
was
old age that claimed Henne and not the cruel sport. Henne was a former BMW
works rider who secured almost countless victories for BMW in the 1920s and
1930s.
He was born in 1904 in Germany, and in 1919 began his apprenticeship as an
automotive mechanic. He quickly moved on to motorcycles and, by 1923, he was
competing in his first motorcycle race in Muhldorf, Germany, where he raced to
a
third-place finish. In the fall of 1925, he was racing in the 350cc class at
the Monza Grand Prix. At the end of the 1920s, Henne was regarded as one of the
best, most versatile motorcyclists in Germany. In 1937, he raced a fully
enclosed BMW to a certified speed of 279 km/h (173.36 mph), which stood as a
world
record until 1951. Henne died at his home in the Canary Islands on May 24,
2005 at the age of 101.
