The low speed resistor on the 318i was dead and after looking at options
($20-$30+) I called the local electronics store. They sold me a .62 ohm 25
watt ceramic resistor. It is very close to the same size as the original
Bosch. Two cable ties attached it to the dead resistor and the new leads
are just barely long enough to be trapped under the contact screws on the
old resistor. Seems to work ok, longevity is unknown, cost: $1 (one).
Seemed worth the trial. Part #25WD62, flameproof resistor by NTE
Electronics. Hope this lasts a good while and helps someone else.

This is a nice looking car. I was browsing Ebay and happened to see this.
Just in case anyone's interested. Supposedly number one of only 61 manual
tranny E24s made in 1989. Current price is $5100.

Ebay item number 4563494896.

No association with seller, just letting the group know about a really nice car
for sale.

That is a sweet 635csi for sure. With just a little bit of TLC
(repairing the seat and the minor dings) it would be perfect. Too
bad I don't have the space for it.

Subject: E30 Broken Transmission shifter cable..
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Dear All,

I had a strange thing happen in my 91 325IX today. I was trying to
shift
the car (automatic Tranny) into Park, and the shift lever moved too easily..
I took the trim piece off of the shift lever and noticed that the thin steel
cable coming up to the shift lever had snapped! Does anyone know of a
write-up to replace this cable? Any experiences on changing this cable?
How difficult is it to replace?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Mo

It's a pain in the ass with out a lift, but do-able.

The cable is clamped in a through-bolt at the tranny end. Clean well
and lubricate.

You'll want a helper to move the shifter while you get the cable in the
through-bolt, and the set it and the shifter to park for tightening.
If you over tighten this through-bolt IT WILL BREAK. You will not be
happy.

The most impossible part of the task is seating the boot of the new
cable in the hole. It helps to remove the ashtray assembly.

Other than that, it is really straight forward.

Kevin,
I've found that the only place a rear facing seat will fit in my 92 325i is
in the middle of the rear seat. No seat recomendations ... I think ours were
Evenflo (sp?)

Now forward facing seats- you can fit two one on each side fairly nicely (4
seater). You can fit two belt only seats and a really skinnly person [ <
than 30" ;-) ] as long as the car seats are blet only with no funky overhead
bars.

I don't know if the 95 came with the safety teather connections already in,
but the bmw dealers up here (Canada) gave them out for free. A bit of a PIA
to install, but BMW did plan for them.

Wendall
2 car seats (forward facing) & room for a 2/3 Iggy!

Here's a question for the parents in the crowd (off-list replies are fine
since this isn't the normal power/suspension upgrade question):

Can any of you tell me which car seat(s) you have found to work or not work
well in 3-series BMWs? We currently have a 1995 (E36) M3 Coupe and are
looking hard at E46 330 sedans. My wife is expecting our first this fall so
we're currently picking up baby gear. I understand that not all seats work
well in all cars and would be very interested in recommendations or BTDT
thoughts.

Thank you,

Kevin

Dumb question of the day. Say I put regular 87 octane gas in a 3.0l motor.
Is my mileage going to drop so far as to offset the savings at the pump? Any
other (bad) consequences?

Besides loss of power and possibly being outside the parameters for the
engine management to compensate for knocking I wouldn't do it. Save pennies
on fuel or rebuild a motor. hmmmmmm
