I heard about the Tesla a few months back and it did sound like a great
idea until, as Marc alluded to, the price factor came into play. If
they could have offered it at Elise prices or maybe a little more it
would have been a great hit but I heard the CEO mention something like
"it will compete with exotic cars like Ferrari, blah blah..." in other
words $100,000+ :(

Oh well I'll have to keep waiting...

There appears to be life after gasoline. At least for local trips.
(<250mi).

Can't wait to see the price-punchline.

Wonder how BMW is coming along in this area (OBMWC)

Yikes! I find those stats extremely difficult to believe -- at any price.
Throw out the horsepower claim and have it weigh 300lbs, and perhaps is what
I would have thought. Apparently, batteries and electric motors have come a
LONG LONG way since I last knew too much about them. Either amazing or a
joke.

When you factor in the 2250 lb curb weight, it starts to make sense.
They hired the designer of the Elise to pull this off.

Price is $90K.

you sure it _isn't_ an Elise ? or is at least based on one ? a lot
of the angles & such look identical. interior is also very similar looking.

AFAIK the VW was killed by lawyers or fear of same here in the US, which
was going to be a primary market for it, thus the project died. it was going
to be engineered or have engineering finished by Lotus for VW & potenially
sub-assemblies shipped to the US for assembly.

It's not an Elise, but it's a very similar design.

Article written in Wired on the car provides more detail. If only this sold at
reasonable rates.

I suppose I can always look into a TRex or the potential VW three wheeled gizmo
as an economical way to scoot to and from work on the back roads. All fuel
economy aside, a Vespa is a scary thought on DC area roads, even the quiet
suburban ones.
