Hi,

About 6 months ago, Mapmuse.com began a project- the interactive
mapping of BMW clubs across the US. We initially researched and
populated this map ourselves, and provided space for a photo,
contact information, and a link to a website. Since then, many BMW
clubs across the country have added their information to our maps.

At this time, I am writing to ask that you update the information.
If you know of any clubs that are no longer in existence, or any
that have started up in the last 6 months, please add that
information to the maps. Also, if we are missing your club, please
feel free to add it. It is through this kind of community effort,
that we hope to build a comprehensive resource for BMW enthusiasts
to find clubs at home and on their travels. Changes can be made
through easy to use links on the site (if you have any problems, see
http://find.mapmuse.com/re1/mmFAQ.htm#A4 ).

The BMW Clubs Maps link follows:

http://find.mapmuse.com/re1/interest.php?brandID=BMW_CLUBS

Lastly, if you have a BMW related blog or website, a link or a
mention would be greatly appreciated. It is through links, and
improving search results that we are able to provide this service to
consumers and businesses free of charge.

Thanks,

Cindy Jett

So most of the family is "ho hum" about cars - they get you from here
to there kind of attitude

#1 daughter is broke, out of work, maybe found a minimum job, single
mom . . .you get the picture. She needed a car to get to/from work,
sitter, ... so the Bank of Mom and Dad was willing to front a loan
for a used car.

So daughter #1 is looking at well used Hondas, Toyotas and almost
ready to drop $5 K on a used NEON, with 75K miles!!! Not with my
money! So I found a used E34 with ~150K miles, GM automatic and
from all appearances in good shape except a burned out bulb behind
the odometer window, and a broken
cracked lens on the driver's side elliptical low beam.

Stage one: daughter not all that happy, she wanted a "fun" or
"popular" or "cool" (hispanic influence) car, not a stodgy 4 door
black sedan.

Stage two: starts to appreciate the 4 door sedan style for hauling 2
year old around in the back seat in a car seat, and the "cachet" of a
"BMW"

Stage three: Is riding in the family van on a decending non-constant
radius on-ramp to the freeway from the overpass above, and comments
to wife how she loves to speed down that ramp in her car!

Wife's reply is on the order of "tell me about it" I love doing it in
my "little red car" (WELL used [195+K mile) E30 convertible)

So the current score is:

Converted Son #2 with my well used E28 that he has replaced at 250K+
miles with a well used E30 318 convertible,
Converted Wife with the well used E30 325ic
Converted Daughter #1 with a well used E34 525i

Progress, one person, one car at a time!

Harvey :-)

Good story. Speaking of old BMW's, I would love a very nice E28 with a stick
for my daughter, if someone has one. She will hate it when she sees it (she
is soon to turn 16...these aren't sexy in today's youth...personally, it is
one of my favorite body styles ever done by BMW), but will soon love it, as
we all love our BMW's. My friend has an 86 528i with over 300k miles on it,
and it still runs perfect. No engine ever replaced, nothing but normal
maintenance. The damn thing also gets around 30mpg. BMW built some darned
good cars in the 80's, if you ask me.

Has anyone on the list done a comprehensive renovation of deteriorated
"interior" items on a E28? I'm talking headliner and all
weatherstripping around the doors. Our family car is an '85 535i 5spd,
just passed 284k, original engine. It looks great, drives great, engine
is fine, upholstery (seats/door panels) in good condition. However, the
headliner is toast (brittle plastic, perforates with any impact, several
holes now), and the door weather-stripping is loose, unrolled, hanging
(I've put a lot of it back with 3M adhesive, but......). I'm wondering
about sources for those items, and how much aggravation it would be to
replace all of them, if they're available. Sources? I'm trying to
decide whether to get an updated model, with better heat/air, or just
keep the old and dependable, if I can freshen some things up.

Thanks,

Personally, I would leave the headliner to an upholstery shop. Those are
tricky, and if you find a small shop, they will do it very reasonably. The
headliner in E28's is a strange material, might be hard to get...don't know.
As for the door seals, etc...I would order the parts from one of the many
places (talk to your local BMW dealer as well, sometimes they have stuff for
a good price) that put out catalogues and such. I wonder if UUC/Rob can help
with those seals?

On a side note, I see you have a 535is. I had one in the late 90's...one of
my favorite cars ever. It was diamond black with beige leather, 5 speed. It
was a perfect example, literally looked brand new..and I added 3 piece BBS
16 inch wheels with polished lips. I was about 24 years old at the time, and
one of my friends took the car out after I went to sleep and totaled
it...ran it into a telephone pole (he was drunk and blacked out), knocked
the pole over, twisted the frame up. Damn I miss that car. I replaced it
with an E28 M5 :-)...but have since sold that one as well.

115k miles, auto, excellent interior, exterior is average for a 15 year
old car. Well-maintained, has been my ~90 mile a day commuter since
purchased in December at 99k miles. Located just north of Chicago, IL,
email for more details or for pictures.

Selling because my job is providing me with a car, so the commuter is no
longer needed. Asking $4250, but make me an offer, I need the driveway
space!

Can anyone recommend a good automotive upholstery shop
in the Northeast Ohio area? The closer to Akron the
better.

Thanks in advance.
