For sale: set of four (4) Mille Miglia MM11-3 17" x 8" wheels with
Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position Tires, size 225/45YR-17,
$600 firm. These will fit on the E46 3 Series (except the M3), and
E36 3 Series (including the M3), most Z3 cars, and the base Z4 2.5i.
I have a 2004 330i, and these were my summer wheels/tires for two
seasons. A picture of the wheels can be seen here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~m3steve/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/winter_04.jpg
http://home.earthlink.net/~m3steve/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/winter_05.jpg
The wheels and tires have 12,830 miles on them over two summers.
The wheels are clean except for some brake dust spotting -- nothing
visible from a couple of feet away. They have no curb rash, and
are all well balanced. Two of the wheels have small 1/4" marks on
their lip from the tire mounting machine, but nothing extreme.
Tread depth across 4 points of each tire is a low of 5/32, a high
of 6.5/32, and an average of 6/32. When new, these tires are
10/32, so they still have about half their life left -- easily
another 12-15K miles assuming they are rotated once. When I bought
them from Tire Rack in 2004, they were just over $1,600. I'm
selling them for $600 firm. I'll offer free delivery in Delaware
Valley area -- anywhere within 60 miles of Reading PA, ZIP Code
19610. If you are interested, let me know and I'll send you
digital pictures of all the wheels and tires.
Regards,
Steve Lilley

So the rains have stopped (Thurs. night / Friday was kinda interesting... the
thunder sounded more like military planes flying at supersonic speeds
overhead... but that's another story.
The tail lights both left as well as right started doing funky things... I
pulled the Drivers-side tail light cluster and low & behold the #2 slot (BROWN
wire), which is heavier duty that all the rest, is melted/burned on both the
harness side as well as cluster side.
The local dealer (Morristown BMW) didn't want to have anything to do with
this... (WTF?!)
SO,
That burned ground wire leads me to believe that the ground that this wire
attaches to is lose or corroded or both...
Does anyone have any idea where this magical ground connection might be?
TIA!

On the E36 and E90s I've messed with they are near the drivers side wheel
well near the top. The E36 was in the passenger compartment, the E90 trunk.
Usually you have to move a bunch of interior panels or trunk paneling
There are an amazing amount of ground connections in a BMW.

Oh btw - if it's out of warranty I don't blame the dealer saying they don't
want to deal with it. Electrical problems are a bottomless pit of time and
money :-(

Yes, indeed. My local dealer quoted me about $300 bucks to fix my
intermittent horn problem. Ended up taking them two weeks, and probably
$1,000 of labor. I only paid the three hundred bucks, though, so I give
them credit for standing by their quote. Although their initial focus was
on the slip ring, eventually it turned out to be some sort of grounding
issue in the steering column. Many months later, and now more horn is back
to only working when it wants to. So, now I have to just stick my head out
the window and yell at bad drivers.

If it is a ground issue I've found its usually easier to just put in a new
ground.

Interesting, how many miles on this car? What area of the country are you in?
Has this car ever had any damage in the rear? A dealer doesn't want to mess
with it - Why? Did they even talk about what it might cost?
IMHO electrical issues are not that difficult - takes logic and common sense,
and a qualified technician that can do this.
