My recollection with my car (and understand my memory doesn't work as well as
it used to) is that a failed control unit behaves as you describe here
(display as normal, but no fan). Boy, it's been a few years, I may not be
certain of this (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong).

I replaced mine with a re-man unit from (I think) Pacific BMW (for a lot less
than new). If you're concerned about throwing money at it, find a friend with
an E36 and swap in theirs (it easily snaps out).

The blower gave up in my '97 328is this morning. It's not turning on at
all--no matter what speed I set it on, the fan stays off. I know about the
climate control computer faults, but the entire display is still functional
and all the buttons work, so I don't believe it's that.

In my E30, I know it's the resistor pack when the fan only works on high, and
it looks like there is a resistor for the E36 as well. Is that the likely
culprit?

Update: It's fixed now. The resistor pack was iffy--I replaced it, and it
still didn't work, so I checked the fuses again. I'd checked the fuses before,
and they looked good, but the blower fuse was actually blown right at one of
the posts (original BMW fuse). I replaced it and the blower started working
again. I reinstalled the factory resistor, and it seems to be working for
now, but I'm keeping an eye out for it to quit again--the resistor was REALLY
warm when I pulled it out, even though it wasn't getting power.

The liquid is at rom temperature, it gets cold when it vaporizes. The stuff
for warts is LN2 and is way colder, and its cold even in the can.

The stuff my kids and grandkids use from Dr. Scholls isn't LN2. Wal*Mart
isn't selling LN2.

Yea, probably not. I went to a doc for a plantar's wart on my small toe and
he did use LN2. It was the most pain I'd ever felt.

The "canned air" worked like a charm. It got hard enough for me to pick it off
with my fingernail and then I cleaned it up w/ some saddle soap. The line, "you
can't polish a turd," came to mind as I was cleaning up the seat.

Thanks for all the brain power.

Chris

Didn't a previous discussion along these lines suggest WD40?

For those of you that need more room than a BMW can offer (we looked,
desperately), but still want a fast car. We're selling our 2002 Audi
Allroad. 42,500 mi. Garaged. lived an easy life away from the rigors
of mountain conditions it was designed for. CPO factory warranty until
9/2008. asking $23,900.

We've moved on to a Honda Minivan (though I'll keep my E36 M3 for a
long time).
