There were no 411/412 VWs there, but a number of Type 3s including one Variant (wagon.) What I saw: Bug Fiat 850 Bug Gaggle of '02s Prinz VW K-Ghia Prinz Bug Bike Ford something? Bug Fiat 600 Bug VW Type 3 Variant/Kombi Bug 911 Bug Prinz Prinz Fiat 850 Bug Prinz VW Type 3 Notchback Renault R8? Prinz Bug Bug Bug Renault R8? '02 Bug Bug 'vert Benz VW Type 3 Fastback VW Type 3 Notchback Fiat Something All but the '02s and the Ford and the Benz (oh, and the well-browned bike) being rear-engine. The Bug 'vert was a late one w/semi-trailing arms, if it'd been a swing-axle car it'd have gone over for sure. They seemed so modern after the squareback era. Compare THAT to a 535it (OBMWC). Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For those of you that know this already, forgive the re-statement of the obvious... The 1-series does promise to be a fantastic car, supposedly a "back to BMW roots" driving experience. However, a lot of people I speak to have the anticipation that it's going to be a small car - sort of a proper RWD version of a MINI. But it's not... this car is literally based on the E46 platform, so what you're getting is a decent-sized car, not pint-sized at all. Yes, smaller than the E90 for sure (which feels close to an E39 5-series for size!), but nothing like a re-born E30. It's also of significant weight which is why early reports show not dissimilar mpg with an E90 fitted with the same motor. I was thinking about the "premium small car" market that the 1-series enters, along with players such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLK. Until final stats come out, it would not surprise me if the BMW were the largest. - Rob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jason Kay" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "UUC Digest" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2007 1:25 PM Subject: [UUC] 1-series press leak from UK... > http://jalopnik.com/cars/the-one/uk-specs-of-bmw-1+series-coup-arrive-early-273078.php > > I think I'll go knock on the door at HQ in NJ and place my order for a 123d... > oh well, guess that means I'll have to settle for the 135i. > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] ;) > > > -Jason > '86 951 "Sparky" > '70 240Z "Dusty" > '03 325xi "Daisy" > '06 Mini CooperS > > Search the ARCHIVES:http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] > > > __________________________________________________________________________ > In memory of Michel Potheau - friend, enthusiast, founder of the BMW CCA. > > UUC Motorwerks - BMW Performance Fine-tuning and home of the Ultimate > Short Shifter - accept no substitutes! > 908-874-9092 . http://www.uucmotorwerks.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 14:26:12 -0400 From: "Gary Derian" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: 1-series press leak from UK... Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I looked up the suspension parts of the 1er on realoem and it is definitely not E46, it is E90 based despite what the article said. Specs are available on www.bmw.de and the 1er is slightly smaller than a 3er. 100mm shorter wheelbase, 260mm shorter and 70mm narrower. No word on prices or weight, but they sure reference the 2002 a lot. --Andre ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 18:42:53 +0000 (UTC) From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: 1-series weight Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Based on the BMW.de site, empty weight for a 130 is 3245 lbs, so it'll be a bit lighter than an e90, though not quite a 3k lb car.
