Hi, Susan,
I accept your numbers and find them interesting. I'm curious to know
what breed has improved with selection pressure in terms of HD? Last I
heard, goldens and shepards and other breeds for which HD is a high
incidence occurence were still facing problems......am I wrong about
that? I would be very interested to learn more about this. I would
LOVE to hear that HD had diminished with selection pressure. Though,
you will have to tell me if the mode of inheritence is the same or
similar in all canines?

And, are you saying that due to mode of inheritence one needs to test
all in a litter for information? Other than placing a pup as a pet who
tested poorly, what further do you do if you find HD? (Obviously, I am
wanting to know why prelims are important rather than adult x-rays on
breeding animals?)

You (and Leanne and others) are always a fount of knowledge! <G>
Perhaps that is why I ask so many questions.

The thing that really impresses me is that selection pressure is highly
effective against HD. This is the reason that we do pre-lims on our dogs. I
occasionally do the permanent x-ray. It depends on what the pre-lim grade
was and whether the dog has made a major contribution to my line.

All the best,
Susan Cochran
