Well, support is an entirely different subject. I was just referring to the
discussion of the pricing of CF.

I know that many have found CF support to be lacking, but it can't be
everyone, or it wouldn't survive as a business unit. Of course, there are
plenty of free options out there for folks, if they can find it. And not
everyone can afford that per call price anyway.

In that regard, if I can do a brief commercial here, I'm doing what I can to
help with my pay-per-minute service. :-) I can't promise to solve all
problems, but I do offer a refund if I do not solve a caller's problem. Most
have found that the conversation still aided them in ways beyond the
specific problem they sought to solve, as I may share some other
insight/feature/tip they hadn't yet considered. And at US$1.99 per minute,
that's just a quid in UK money. What a bargain. :-) More at

Well if they provided good support then that would certainly shut me up, but
you have to pay like $500 just to speak to someone, and in my experiences
when I have used their paid support for a quick solution, I didn't get one.
Still ende dup solving it myself and giving the solution to them.

And isn't that interesting: MS can afford to offer responsive, free support
by employing an army of people. How do they pay them? The money comes from
somewhere. They own the OS. People pay for that. They own the desktop app
space, people pay for that. It's like the web app development is a loss
leader. They can give it away because they make money elsewhere.

Is it fair, then, to deride Adobe for charging (even a fair bit) for CF?
Where should they get the money to pay their development and support staff?
In fact, they instead own the RIA space (for now), but Flash doesn't bring
much direct revenue to Adobe I imagine, and Flex is pretty much free.

I think we just have to recognize that we can't expect Adobe to give away
CF. The model and economics just don't suit it. I do wish folks would stop
moaning about the price. It is what it is. There are so many good things
about CF8. Either take it or leave it.

OK, let me slip into my flame retardant suit. I'm sure peeping up like this
could bring all manner of flames and arrows upon me. Just felt it needed to
be said in response to that last sentence below.
